How to Avoid Weak Lists || Joushi Ramblings

I found an interesting question on reddit and wanted to give a bit of insight into it:
u/skuntpelter asks: People always ask about tips for building a “good” army, what are your specific tips to AVOID building a bad one?
I give some general thoughts and go over a few lists that players have struggled with at recent GTs and some pitfalls they fall into.
Let me know what you think about this format of video, it's definitely an experiment! If you're interested in seeing more List Doctor type content let me know in the comments. Hey glad you're enjoying it! To start with I have never played on WTC terrain, and my first thought is this is a lot of big vehicles that might not be able to move very well I think the list is functional and actually has a surprising number of activations, but I'd want to make those we have more impactful! If you have the models (or can proxy), I'd consider the following changes: Cadians in Chimeras become Catachans for the Scout 6" (saves 15 points) Cadians + CCS (185) in Crassus become Scions with MTCS + Psyker (230) for the re-roll hits, re-roll wounds, sustained hits, and dev wounds combo. This combo kills almost anything in the game that's on an objective. Can also consider making this your warlord so your Scions are battleline You'd also probably have to drop the Enginseer for this, but that gives 15 points left over (if I've done my math right) to put Grand Strategist on the Tank Commander so you can order another Rogal Dorn This drops your activations by one, but in exchange you get Scout Chimeras, a second Dorn with +1BS, and the contents in the Crassus will do way more damage than if they were Cadians

I'm currently stuck between a rock and a hard place as my friend group are necron and eldar, they've got some sweaty blob builds (wraithguard + spiritseer, immortals + technomancer) and so I've been trying to contend with those for a while now. Yo! Looking over this it's a bundle of good units, but conceptually I'm a little worried that you don't have enough tools to hold the center of the board. It'll probably mean that your Rogal Dorns are gonna get tied up in combat. This isn't necessarily a problem since a lot of things will struggle to kill Dorns, but it does mean that you might run into problems where they can't shoot at the targets they want. In a meta where Drukhari, melee CSM, World Eaters, and Blood Angels are all good and popular, feels like you could struggle to beat those armies The natural tools for this are Catachan-Chimeras, Bullgryn, and Armoured Sentinel bricks. First places I'd look to cut (after Sly Marbo heh) would probably be Kasrkin, one of the Scions, one of the Scout Sents, and the DKoK w/ Psyker brick

@Spooktical I don't think it's bad by any means, I'm looking to run 20 Krieg leaderless, it's just one of the first things that's in "nice to have" as a piece to prevent Cull the Horde For an army that lives and dies on how good our datasheets are, "nice to have" is usually the first place we cut for things that make or break our lists You can keep it, the other things I mentioned are also "nice to have". Good, but probably not game winning

Yeah, the Warhound Titan is not usually ever worth it. You can fit multiple Knights in there and do more damage or as you pointed out chuck a whole bunch of other units in that that target more stuff. Which sucks because it is a really cool model.

Hey! 1. Scions can only bring 1 Plasma Gun / 5 models, so the second one should be either a Melta or Volley Gun 2. The Lascannon Infantry Squad would probably be better off as a Scout Sentinel for control of secondaries and the ability to move quickly on the board The list looks pretty well rounded overall, it'll mostly depend on your playstyle for finding success!
