Firearms in Bears Country : As for firearms and bear country, first let me say that I am a big supporter of the second amendment and frequently conceal carry. Second, the effectiveness of firearms in bear country isn’t very high which is exactly why I stated what I did in my video as that information is based on the latest insights from experts and also studies which have been done. Brigham Young University has a study which analyzes bear attack cases in Alaska going back 100 years and in a nutshell, skill, the caliber of weapon, type and capacity have very little impact but rather, what does is the way that you handle yourself in the wilderness. Let me put it this way, if you go into bear country and don't adhere to common sense, then your next big mistake is to think you can shoot your way out of a problem with a gun because looking at the stats, it won't work out well. What is proven to be the best in terms of protection is bear spray as 92% of the time, the individual walks away without an injury. With firearms, 50% of the time the individual will suffer an injury from the animal. There is more information which can be found in the Brigham Young University study and also the work done by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service If anyone has a question, email as I am here to help. Be safe everyone! S&H - Luke

As I said below, how good a shot you are is more important than the caliber of weapon. My weapon of choice would be a pump or automatic twelve gauge magnum, improved cylinder, with 00 shot and two or three rifled slugs. Get a life-size picture of a bear coming at you and standing, and check the pattern at different distances so you'll have a feel for the range the shot can be effective. You can pull the plug and load half the maximum with rifled slugs and maybe one for the first shot. Shoot accurately, but unload the gun. Have shells in quick-loaders on your belt. Just because a bear goes down doesn't mean it won't get up.

I’ve seen a lot of bears during my 40 years of hiking, and never once had an uncomfortable encounter. I do know that bear spray is highly effective and has the added benefit of conditioning the bear without permanently harming the animal. Win win!

I don't think I'll ever forget the time we were camped at Allegany State Park in New York. The people next to us spent half the night popping batch after batch of Jiffy Pop popcorn over the fire. They weren't the least bit neat about it either. Finally the curiosity got the best of me and I approached them to ask what the deal was with all the popcorn. "Oh, we're popping it to leave out in hopes of seeing some bears." I let them know what I thought of their irresponsibility. They told me to mind my own effing business. Some people are just dumb. Just plain dumb.

To tell you the truth, I encounter many bears in the Catskill mtn. and in the Adirondack they alway seem to have no interest of me, thank the Lord for that, but that month after in the Catskill, a dude got maul bc he had lots of food expose in his campsite, even dirty cooking wear was expose to the elements. He ne er made it out alive, that bear ran off with the dude right legs, and if that wasn't stupid enough, the dude pick the wrong time of the season to leave food out like that, it was getting warm in early spring when bears are coming out from there slumber...

It's a healthy awareness, as humans continually encroach on wildlife habitat there's bound to be more and more encounters. Statistics of the past are no longer relevant. Yes, most bear encounters are harmless, but you should still be prepared for the ones that don't go as planned that's literally what sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom.

There's an important part of the triangle rule - the camp site should be the point of the triangle most upwind for the prevailing winds. Of course, winds change, and there may not be any winds when you pick your spots. But if you can tell which way the wind is blowing, cook and store your food downwind of camp.

In germany too. We do have some 30 packs of wolves, but I dont worry about them they are rare and shy and highly unlikely to approach a human. I am more concerned about encountering a wild sow and her piglets....they are WAY more dangerous than a wolf...AND FAST! And let's not talk about male boars! 😂😂😂

Quick story- I had an encounter with a big sow in the Wasatch Mountains in the early 2000s that resulted in a charge. Mama didn't seem to concerned about my poles and arms waving in the air, screams coming from my mouth, so that's about the time the 'oh crap' meter goes off. l drew my pistol and emptied the magazine as fast as I could pull the trigger. I did not hit the bear once but after (I think) the second or fourth shot the sow stopped made a snorting sound me and turned around. Looking back this it was likely a bluff charge and she probably would have done the same thing had I continued with waving of arms and screams. Honestly, I was lucky I didn't get messed up. Since my encounter I have learned to shoot much better and under mock-stress conditions. I also keep bear spray as my first line of defense due to statute shooting a game animal out of season and without a permit. There are several training techniques on how to simulate mock-stress shooting however, it's not quite going to match a real-life encounter... I subscribe to the idea that it's definitely better to have than to have not but I hope some of these knuckleheads realize that basic training will only help you. Like you said, I think just making noise is going to go a long way. Looking back at that encounter I was moving through the forest without any sound and that probably contributed to my encounter. I tend to call out into the woods with various nonsense, tap my trekking poles every 100-200 feet, whistle music, and I pay attention to your surroundings. Since my encounter I have seen four bears in the wild and all of those sightings are bears running away from me. Just a quick observation... One thing I have noticed with all of my bear encounters is the forest will usually become quiet or quieter. These are beautiful creatures that need to be respected. You're in their territory just don't be a clueless dingus and you'll be fine. Good and important video for your subscribers to watch, thanks for the upload.

Living in Grizzly country, I've come to the conclusion that it's a bear spray first, firearm second situation, but you always want to have both. Spray isn't always effective: wind conditions can suck, most people have never fired it, and sometimes the bear is just tougher. Firearms add an additional non-lethal deterrent with the loudness of a gunshot in addition to the obvious lethal option. Another overlooked benefit of firearms is their use when a bear is trying to get into your tent. Discharging bear spray in your tent is, for obvious reasons, a terrible idea that will drastically decrease your ability to respond effectively to a bear encounter. One should always carry both and have plans in place with your hiking group regarding what to do. In the event of an encounter, the individual with the firearm should place themselves slightly behind and to the side of an individual with bear spray, only discharging their weapon after all other deterrents have been exhausted. Carrying a firearm in the woods, or anywhere, is an enormous responsibility. You have to be confident in your own abilities, perpetually aware of your surroundings, cognisant of your backdrop, and skillful under pressure. Irresponsible handling of a firearm is much more likely to lead to your death than a bear attack.

Depends on the calibre of gun you are using. If you hit the bear in the shoulder with for example a 338 win mag. You'll shatter its shoulder with a 250 grain projectile coming out of the muzzle with 4000 ft lbs of energy. I'm also a hunter and a pretty decent shot with my 338 win mag. The 338 win mag was also designed foe the pacific northwest and taking down big bears such as grizzly and polar bears. I take it camping etc. Which we are allowed to do while camping in regular canadian wilderness.

I have to tell a story of a bear in encounter that took place in cadescove. We were driving thru the big loop. A big bla k bear came charging across the field chasing a bunch of deer. The deer jumped the road in front of two motorcyclist right in front of my car. The bear busted thru the fence along the road we were on and slammed his breaks on he then turned and started towards the motorcyclist. Needless to say kickstand plopped down and motorcyclist jumped in the car with us. There was six people like a clown car in an 86 z28 LOL. Bit the bear man he was on an agenda and then went up and down the road looking in all the cars but the motorcyclist were safe.

I had an aggressive encounter with a wild mother black bear in 2016 (Ouachita National Forest). She charged three times defending her cubs and would not relent even though we practiced proper initial bear encounter tactics and tried to give her a very wide berth. The final charge put her within about 15 feet directly in front of us. At that time I sent a round right over her head. She shook her head and took off running. No we are not "idiots" as some commenters say; we were three hunters out scouting an area and just happened to run into this mother black bear that, for whatever reason, didn't take kindly to us. We may have been the first humans she had ever seen. Pretty much that simple.

I enjoy these videos, I must say that I always knew to make loud noise while hiking with my wonderful rambunctious but well trained Irish Setter. I went through the same trails for months and had a few bear encounters and did just what you advise, I've always been amazed with how they let me and my forced to be calm dog walk away slow but confident without looking into the eyes. I had a whistle I blew every couple mins to ward off wildlife through the trails and one day I was tired and still vigilant but lethargic and not into that particular hike. Almost 2 hours in and on our way back to go home, still warding off wildlife with my "handy dandy whistle" , low and behold.... my dog was a bit ahead and just eerily had this bark and snarl as I knew, this is no human or domestic animal as he doesn't act this way and where we were. I acted asap and contained him as he was just about to bolt around the corner at what he saw that I couldn't yet see. Low and behold a Coyote standing and starrimg boldly right I'm the middle of the trail as us. I learned to HAZE just before this but to my shock, this coyote just remained still with no fear but just intensely curious! When I leashed my dog, we slowly back off not turning our backs and he followed us for quite ways in the distance. I'm now over the whole shocking experience and since then almost became an expert with all my research on coyotes. It only makes sense to me that it lived there and watched us for months and got used to this loud noise that was harmless overtime. My point is.... I use my loud voice now and no more funny weird sounds cause it's the only sense I can make of it. It was interested in my dog I know as hes not neutered. But human voices are the best deterrent for warning and avoiding rather th sa n funny whistles and whatever else that can cause curiousity. LOL.

Matthew Lawton Yes, thats called a predatory attack. Thats when a bear attacks because it wants to eat you for dinner. Chances of surviving predatory attack without spray or guns is close to 0%. Most bear attacks are not predatory, thankfully. People do survive more often than not, because most attacks are simple defensive attacks that do not continue after first contact

Best way to tell the type of bear is to run like hell, look for a tree, and CLIMB it! If the bear chases you up the tree and kills you, that's a Black Bear. If it stays on the ground, and takes one paw and knocks the whole tree down and kills you, that's a Grizzly Bear. And if you can't find a tree... Polar Bear.

I always (In the earlier days) Camped near my campfire and had food in my cooler. I never had a problem camping that way but,...now I camp in a Toyota Camper van and no longer stay in a tent. The bears come right into camp and do not scare away. I do not feel safe whatsoever in a flimsy tent. Also,...if a human becomes dangerous,..I just jump in the driver seat. start the van & take off without having to exit what I'm camping in. It just feels safer to me than a tent.

If you are in Grizzly or Brown bear country, carry both bear spray and a sidearm; 10MM, 44 magnum are good choices, with FMV and / or high penetration bullets. You do not want hollow-tip. If you carry only spray and have a second encounter, you are now SOL. Spray would be my second line of defense (first being avoidance), however windy conditions could make spray ineffective.

I didn't see, or hear him grazing, just at the bottom of the bush (which was downhill from me, yes I could have seen him if I was more aware). He raised up, and kind of yawned at me. I apologized for stealing his raspberries, dropped them on the ground, and continued on my hike. The bear did not follow, or try to chase me.

Must really suck having to worry about Bears in America while enjoying the outdoors. Makes it that much better here in New Zealand not having to worry about something eating you in the middle of the night as we have NOTHING that poses any threat. You don't have to worry about going to hide your food, take extra precautions for setting up camp, nothing like that. You just find a spot and that's it. There's nothing here that will attack you as we have no natural Predators. ... Paradise. 👍👍

Back in '94, I was backpacking in the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming, and our first campsite had a few resident black bears that actually tore down the bear bag of another group of campers while we were there. I had two different personal encounters with the bears. One of them snuck up behind me while I was doing my business but left as soon as I saw it. It was like he was saying, "Hi, whatcha doing?" It never made any moves toward me, but it made my walk back to camp scary as hell. I was imagining it behind every tree. I even contemplated swimming back rather than walking, but the lake was glacial runoff and around 34°. I was nowhere near scared enough to jump into that water! Later that night I had the rather chilling experience of watching a bear's silhouette as it circled my tent. I wasn't the only one in our group who had that particular experience either. One of the bears was particularly interested in the tent being used by a couple of the girls with us. Apparently, it kept coming back to sniff & circle their tent over and over again for a few hours, and it left them seriously freaked out. (We were with a coed explorer post.) That was our first campsite of the trip, and originally we were scheduled to spend two nights there to help us acclimate to the elevation, just shy of 10,000ft (We live at 330ft.), and then we would move on to our second campsite on day three. After nearly all of us had at least one up-close & personal experience with one or more of the bears (there were three of them) we universally decided to move on from that campsite and spend two hopefully bear-free days at the next lake instead. (It turned out to be way prettier anyway, and no bears!) I was left with a bit of a souvenir from our bear friends. I was the one carrying the rope we hung our bear bags with every night, and as I was coiling it up to strap it to my pack the next morning I noticed several brown hairs stuck in the twists. They weren't able to get it down, but they tried. As I understand it those bears were relocated shortly after our stay there. They never made any aggressive moves toward any of us, but it was very obvious that those bears were way too comfortable around humans! At the time I was just a 16y/o Explorer Scout. So I was obviously not carrying a firearm. The best I could do while laying there watching and listening to it circle my tent all I could do was hold onto my bear spray and my Buck 119. I knew the knife wouldn't be much help if the bear decided to let itself in, but it made me feel better. These days I rarely go anywhere unarmed. Whether I'm deep in grizzly country or at the mall I'm packing. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it, and, regardless of what the statistics say, I know for a fact that a large bore handgun would be far more effective than me yelling at the bear to go away if it decided to attack! Of course, I also carry bear spray as my first line of defense. The firearm is there just in case that doesn't work. Here's a little tip that I've found useful: whenever I'm backpacking in bear country I wear a dog's collar with little bells on it fastened around my ankle. It makes a very human sound every time I take a step, and, so far at least, I've never bumped into a bear on the trail. I've had them in my campsites from time to time, but despite spending a significant amount of time hiking in both grizzly and black bear country, I've never surprised one. If you're smart with food and never surprise one you'll almost certainly never have a problem.
@futuresonex
@futuresonex 2 жыл бұрын
One more tip, and this is a big one: LEARN TO RECOGNIZE BEAR BEHAVIOURS AND KNOW THE PROPER REACTION TO THEM!!! When you ran into that bear did you surprise it and put it on the defensive? Is it a sow defending its cubs? Does it feel threatened by you? Is it defending territory? Or is it stalking you and trying to decide if you're food? A lot of people don't understand that last one, and doing the same things that are likely to get you out of trouble in the first four situations will get you killed if you're being stalked by a bear that's trying to decide whether you're food or not! A few years ago a teenager in New Jersey learned this lesson the hard way, and he didn't survive. He was being stalked by a black bear. He should have been yelling, waving his arms in the air, waving sticks in the air to make himself look bigger, or even throwing rocks at the bear to let it know, "Hey, I'm big. I'm dangerous. I fight back. You don't want none of this." Instead, all he knew to do was to look non-threatening and back away slowly. After stalking him for quite a long way the bear eventually decided that he was a safe potential meal, and it killed him and fed on him. Had he understood that the bear wasn't being defensive but was hunting him and known how to handle it, he would have almost certainly made it home alive that day. Standing up to the bear just one time would likely have been enough to end the situation with both him and the bear living to see another day. Carrying bear spray and a firearm wouldn't have hurt anything either.

great information guys....some of the best info I have gotten from other channels and official websites......I had my first bear encounter at 2 am camping in the Green Swamp in Florida....I had mints in my tent left a few uneaten peanuts on a table.....I should have noticed the signs of bear activity, but i was not expecting it as I had camped there several times before......I should have noticed the signs of bear activity near the campsite....in a marshy area there were several large holes that I assumed were made by wild boars....the other sign were several half eaten fish around.....I cant believe I stayed calm as it circled the campsite....I heard it in the palmettos growling and pacing..I quickly stoked the campfire back up threw the peanuts and mints in the fire I grabbed a large pine limb banged on the metal campfire ring and talked loudly even sang, did that more to calm my nerves after 20 minutes it left and I left shortly after that to hike back to the car..I got bear spray now too!

I tried scaring a black bear away up in the mountains in New Mexico. There was a cluster of ancient wooden cabins and the bears could smell everything we did for miles. We were alone. The bear poked around, stood up and looked in some windows. When it was far enough away at the opposite end of the cabin, but able to see me, 20 feet away at most, I stepped out the door and yelled and screamed. It looked at me with mild interest. I then fired about 6 shots out of my Walther P-38...toward it so the sound would be loud but nowhere near hitting it. A 9mm will not kill a bear. The old black bear looked at me with additional curiosity but it showed no intention of leaving. I went back in. My wife whacked him on the nose when he stuck his head in the window box...a fairly open wooden window mounted box to keep produce cool. Sure as hell, there were apples in there. Plus all the kitchen smells flooding out. She whacked him...he grabbed an apple, and didn't come back. An old timer told me when I was surprised that the pistol sounds had no effect. "Nope, Son. They knows they's the baddest thing in the woods. They ain't scared of you. They usually don't want to eat you either, so just be cool."

I also carry a whistle, mainly to notify searchers should I get lost, take a fall or get injured - but also useful against bears as they don’t like load strange noises. I’ve not carried an air horn but that is supposed to be effective against bears for the same reason. I also carry a harmonica. It passes the time, alerts bears of your presence and is a pleasant way to pass the time if you are hiking alone, run out of songs to sing or don’t like talking to yourself.

Do any of you remember the years old photos of a bear damaged Alaskan float plane? The pilot anchored the plane in a lake, and left some baitfish behind his seat. Guess what? Bears attacked the plane and ripped it to shreds. He had to have parts (including a right wing) flown up, along with about 100 yards of duct tape. Funny 'cause the wings didn't exactly match, and all the fabric fuselage was covered in the tape.

Totally, totally awesome video! Thanks much, you two. Regarding bear pepper spray, make sure that the canister you carry is sufficiently fresh to function properly. A friend had an older one that lost it's pressure and was a dud. But truly, I'd more trust a pepper spray canister than a big pistol - though with heavy, hard bullets the latter is good too for frontal shots on close-up bears.

I'm not exactly a gun totin' type, but I do own a few from over the decades past. This mania about guns in the woods being of little use is just crazy, though. I do agree that perhaps - a wild guess - 90% of handgun carriers in the woods couldn't hit a charging bear with a single disabling shot, let alone a follow-up in the time it takes for the bear to reach the shooter and do some serious re-alignments before expiring. I'm probably among that group. However, with a long arm, such as any 20 or 12 gauge shotgun loaded with slugs, the chances increase dramatically, as long as you have a clear bead on. Even a lever action .30-30 at close range is plenty for any blackie, although there are some people who might disagree. After my last bear encounter, I now carry a sidearm, as well as a short 20g. I'm never out of range of my only means of protection. Not after that last one. No way. Shook me up bad. I just wish there were a practical and safe way to practice hitting a charging object from a distance stating at 35ft and moving at 25 to 30mph. A human assailant armed with a knife can cover 15ft in less than 2 seconds. Any cop will tell you that 15ft is the dead zone. A bear can do the same in .75 seconds. So, from 35ft - like in my case - had that big boy decided to go rogue on me, I would have had only about 1.5 seconds to aim and shoot, whether it be spray or a bullet. As it turned out, after a few tense seconds and much jaw popping, he dropped to all fours and slowly, like a champ, swaggered off. He didn't give a rip about me or my noises. That was at 2am with zero help in the area. I shot off a few rounds in the air over the next hours until dawn and left. I get it about the spray. It works pretty good, and if all goes well, nobody gets hurt and the bear learns an unpleasant lesson. But why not just carry both? In either case, it is entirely possible to mishandle the can or the gun, and become the bears next meal.

About 25 years ago I was on a trail in Olympic national forest and saw a black bear pop it's head out of the brush out of the corner of my eye. I was hiking with a group, but was a mile or two ahead of the group. She was only about 10 feet away, but didn't seem bothered by me at all. Then I heard some noise behind me on the opposite side of the trail. I slowly turned my head and saw the bear's cub hop up onto a downed tree trunk. I was almost directly in between them! I took every ounce of control I could muster not to panic, but mama bear was just calmly chewing on whatever she'd been foraging, so I slowly backed away down the trail. Having spent plenty of time in Yosemite, I've had a lot of black bear encounters, but that is the one I will never forget as long as I live. I almost could have reached out and touched her with a trekking pole, she was that close. After doubling back to my group, I let them know what had happened and we approached that section carefully, but the pair was nowhere to be seen.

there is a reason why our pioneers hung their pots and pans on the outside of their packs. lol. We forget the old ways, and poof suddenly we have bear problems. I personally have a cousin who was killed by a black bear, this happened in 1975 I think, The bear itself was a nuisance due to finding peoples food. And as a scientist she was in the woods with two other people. They survived, but with injuries. They did climb a tree.. But it was a Black bear, they are very good climbers. I personally came face to face with a Grizzly bear, my Yukon bear dog, tiny little thing, scared it off. But I did as you said, instinctively, I knew not to run, or turn around, I was around 10 or 11 years old, and basically, while my little dog was yapping away at the grizzly, I just backed up and away, The Grizzly wanted nothing to do with Lucky, so we just went back to camp. You forgot to mention how Campers are not altogether safe spaces for food from bears either. My dad was working in the bush, and was living in a Camper, when a bear decided it wanted in. It did not get in, but caused so much damage to the camper it was totalled afterwards. Lucky he was not in the camper at the time, else the Bear may have tried even harder to get inside.

Doesnt matter if youve known the bear since it was a cub and spent the next 15 years playing with it. It can turn on you in an instant, for no particular reason. Anyone who fools around with wild animals like that and ends up as dinner deserves what they got. Its like mountain climbing, the risks are very real and everyone knows them. Thanks for your advice. I was taught that playing dead does work but for a different reason. People believed that bears don't eat dead things (like people); that is actually wrong. Bears will eat carrion and some individual bears prefer that. When you play dead, the bear doesn't see you as a threat to itself, its territory, etc and will move on.

I live in Alaska and I carry both a gun and bear spray. I figure it's better to have both than just one or the other. I'll also carry a 9mm every now and then. It's a small caliber for bear country but it's more for extreme last resort and if I plan on going into or being around Anchorage later in the day. There is an interesting article out there on defensive gun use during bear attacks and it's broken down by caliber...good read

Avid outdoors as I am and have encountered several black bears, the one that caught me off guard was when in early summer 3 years ago, I was stripping flat ground with my foot for tent set up, heard a rustle in the woods " behind" me , turned and was just maybe 8 or 9 feet from a full grown black bear!! As I turned quickly, the bear was actually startled, got half way standing , looked 2 or 3 head scouts, dropped down, and was gone just like that !

I use to leave my van door unlocked in my driveway. In the middle of the night I heard some commotion and went to the front door to see a huge bear butt in my driver seat. When the bear heard my voice he immediately took off into the dark. Once he was gone I went to check the damage and was surprised to see how delicate he had been, I expected the interior to be ripped to shreds. He had dug through my hiking backpack to eat my trailmix and bite into the disposable ice pack in my first aid kit. There was also a puncture on my wallet/drivers license (which made for a good story whenever I had to show my ID.) The most visible damage was some muddy paw prints on a hoody I had left in the van. If I haven’t seen him for myself I never would have believed it was a bear that broke it to my car.

Disagree on guns. Bear spray is the first line of defense but guns are often successfully used when bear spray doesn't work.

Bear spray works and if it doesn’t the records say that you will probably just get knocked down as the bear runs past you.

OMG my first one today! No joke 90 min ago crossed a 400+ giant Cali Brown at 150 feet startling it I freaked out and ran as fast as I could away from it kept turning around the sun was coming up and there was enough light I could see but it never tried to catch me and I got away and made it back to my house from the trail !! So I watched your video which was great but I’m still shaking because it was so big that now I’m gonna have to take a break and lay down. ! THX !

Hi Luke and Susan....what great knowledge you have against bears. It is so hard not to be so scared if you have never seen a bear before. .....but doing what you have said is going to save your life and keep them away!!! Thank you for taking that time to tell of something so important. ❤️👍👀

Nicely done presenting your video. My 8 year old son and I have hit the different parts of the back country of BC the last couple of years and have had several great encounters with Grizzly and black bears, never having to use our bear spray.

Great informative video thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Although there is one tool that you did not mention and that would be a firearm. The firearm is no good unless you train with it. But remember this is definitely your last resort after everything including beer spray has failed it is always nice to have one more tool in your arsenal for protection. And I do mean protection only. Get out there enjoy the outdoors and be safe and again thank you For the great information.

Few rules when in bear country, most bear attacks are you spooking the bear so when walking in the woods make noise, experienced hikers wear little bells on their boots and packs and carry bear spray. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and learn the signs of bear activity on and off trails, for example bear scat/poop, bear poop is easy to recognize, black bear poop will consist of berries and bits of fur while grizzly bear poop will consist of little bells and smell like pepper spray.....Happy hiking.

I enjoyed your video, accurate bit of information for the general population The only thing I thought you might have emphasized more is the difference in the behavior between Black bear and Grizzly bear. There is a vast difference in the degree of territoriality and aggressiveness between the two species. Knowing what area and type of bear that frequents it is important. I grew up in Montana and spent a lot of time around both types. BTW A 3 inch magnum twelve gauge shotgun firing 00 Buck at say 10 yards will do more than sting a bear. I carry a SW 500 Magnum firing 450 grain rounds with a chest holster. This will stop any land bound carnivore on the planet. However you are right unless you are an experienced hunter it is probably wise not to bring a firearm into the equation. Appreciate your efforts.

Ask Todd Orr how that bear spray worked out for him. Much of the other information in the video is helpful, especially the food and things that smell like food part. As for an attack, I'd rather not have to hope the wind is blowing in the right direction or that I have the correct distance for spray to be effective. A higher caliber revolver with penetrating ammo and a trained person seems like a better way to go in a life and death situation.

Elevated Trail High caliber revolver is great if you can accurately draw your gun, aim on target and kill the charging bear in one shot, you have about 3 seconds to do that. 99% of trained shooters would not manage to do that. 9mm is a better choice, because you can get many more shots on target in that time and 9mm kills bears too.

Hard metal camping cooler = *NOT* bear-proof; 4000 pound steel vehicle = *NOT* bear-proof; $2 plastic tupperware = *IS* bear-proof Makes perfect sense. 🤣 I’m actually here for the bear encounter info which is really good so thank you for the video… I was only teasing with my snarky comment. 🐻
