This might help immensely in my case. I've got some old Event Pokemon on my Gen4 games which I'd like to transfer up to the recent games if possible. However, around half of these Events were Pokemon with unusual moves, and I'm quite scared to transfer them over to Gen5, only for the Poke Transporter possibly recognizing them as "illegal" and not letting them pass. Before that happens I'd rather just keep them on Gen4 where they originated instead of gathering them all in Gen5. They're like Day 1-Events which I did when they came out and mean a lot to me, and I'd either want to keep them with me in the current game, or not move them at all if it's impossible. So with the knowledge of this video, I'll do a backup of my Gen4 games before I'll attempt the transfer. The Transporter checks for illegal origins (e.g. catching location), moves (if its possible for the pokemon to have their respective moveset) and stats (does the pokemon have believable stats for its species). The middle part is what I'm worried about. Catching location for Event Pokemon is rarely an issue, as the Transporter knows that Events exist, but for example filters out stuff like the Hall of Origin Arceus (as that event never got released and was only possible through hacks). And stats are impossible to alter except if you're actively cheating, so all my Pokemon are safe in that regard.

Instead of a cartridge game can you overwrite the save file of a Pokémon rom instead? I used a forwarder to have my DS pokemon games on my 3DS home

you dont need a physical cartridge you can load roms to the software. This is just specifically to get it onto the cartridge so you dont have to find the rom every time

@ yeah i did findout it works man! I was able to transfer my save file to a cartridge and from there i transferred the pokemons to the pokemon bank!

Would it be possible to do this from NDS cartridge save file to rom save file? As in overwriting the rom’s save file with the backed up cartridge save file, for clarification. Theoretically it should work the same way right?

The process would be boderline the same. Checkpoint your game save to your SD. Boot up SD on PC, copy the file. When done, replace it on the SD and use Checkpoint to restore it.

Only if both are modded with Custom Firmware. I looked into this when I ripped the save file from my physical OG Red cartridge and ran VC to create a new save file, made a save, used Checkpoint to back it up, and replaced the .dat file with the ripped .sav whose file extension was renamed to .dat as well. Restored it, and now I have my old cart save on newer hardware that won't fail in a few years when the battery dies.

It worked on my 3DS perfectly but when I tried to play my cartridge on my DS Lite and it was as if the save was deleted and the game had to be started all over again. Tried again on my 3Ds and the transfered save did work :( what could be happening?
