For me, you’re preaching to the choir! I’m Italian and my grandmother too and she taught me too many to count recipes of the cookies! We’re both so lucky to have these traditions passed down to us, aren’t we!? I do wedding trays and actually do the trays for any and all occasions! So many want my recipes but I can’t part with them! Was so nice watching mom and daughter bake Christmas cookies. Growing up I used to always help my mom do Christmas baking. We would make hundreds of cookies. The shapes, the decorating... Would go on for days! Lol. I really enjoyed those times. I have 2 grown daughters that has absolutely no interest in baking. Such a bummer.

This is my 2nd Christmas without my mom, but I think it's time to continue the baking she and my grandmother would do for every holiday. I just could not do it last year. Christmas was THE favorite for us. Watching you two was just the push I needed. Ma's favorites were Pistachio Biscotti and Prune Cookies--mine are Egg Biscuits and Butterballs. Omgoodness..the first cookie was a memory..my Mom learned from her Italian mother in law (Nana) many recipes..this was my favorite....the only difference was she made orange, not lemon 😂..thank you..I thought I'd never see this recipe..her cookbook was lost ..I'm 70 now and you made this Nana VERY happy 😊

WOW!!! Brings back such memories for me!! At Christmas time, just weeks before Christmas, my friend would come to my house and we would make cookies - Italian biscotti, Greek cookies (my friend was Greek), thumbprint cookies, butter cookies, etc., etc., and my entire dining room table was loaded with different types of cookies - which of course we split up between ourselves and gave to our families also, and of course for our children!!! What fun we had, but baking for hours on end, and for me sometimes well into the night!! Then of course the deserts, cakes, homemade cannolli (also homemade shells) - my sister-in-law gave me the shells and now I cannot find the shells since moving!! Which breaks my heart because I loved making the cannolli's. My husband was Italian so we always had homemade Italian dishes - and always partying at my house with the family!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha I love this channel, which I just found and sorry for my long comment!!! Also, I'm German, so we had the best of both worlds - my German cookies and Italian cookies, plus my Greek friend's Ozo cookies and everything else!!!

Good morning Ladies. I just wanted to tell you that the cookies were such a big hit. I had to make another batch yesterday, because the first batch I made on Sunday were gone the same day!!! Hi, as all ovens may vary slightly in temperature, try to always keep an eye on them during baking time especially for a first try- yours may bake a few mins faster than our oven :) and you can adjust your cooking time accordingly for the next time round💕 happy baking

Hi there :) we used 1/2 a container which comes out to 272 grams 🫶🏼 (454 grams or 1lb was the size of the full container) so if we used half that would make it 272 grams ❤️❤️❤️ happy baking 😊

@@lovewhatueat we really don't have a container of Crisco. It's in a package similar to butter. On the package there are measurements such as 1/4 cup ...1/2 cup. It's not in grams. I'm not sure I ever saw a container of Crisco. I'm in Ontario 🤔

I find it hard to believe that a traditional Italian cookie recipe calls for Crisco. Lard? Very possibly. Butter? Absolutely. Crisco? Not in any of the Italian kitchens ice known.

Crisco is a form of vegetable shortening that works very well if you don’t have your hands on lard ❤ lard as you mentioned is used in recipes as well as butter , we use what we have at hand ❤ this is how my grandmother made them , she used what she found here in Canada when she imigrated and these are our family recipies and others we learned along the way that we are sharing ❤much love and have a great day 😊 thanks for your comment

@lovewhatueat Yes, I'm well acquainted with what Crisco is. It's just that most of the "tradtional" Italian recipes I've had the pleasure of enjoying with friends over the years are much older than that. (Anything that calls for Crisco can only date back to 1911 at the earliest, even as a revision to an existing recipe.) I'm just used to older family memento who refuse to budge from the time honored ingredients and recipes they learned, even though recordings may improve or make recipes more convenient. Not a criticism, just an observation.
