Bala Sharks are beautiful! Love their shiny silver scales. People need to research before they buy fish.. You're so right about bala Sharks getting abused. People think because fish are small in the pet stores that they aren't going to grow much larger than that.

I agree with your assessment, nearly full grown or fully grown bala's need a 6ft plus long tank. My three bala's are about 5-6 inches long each and I have them in a 55 gallon long tank right now. They are happy but in about a year or two I will have to get probably a 120 gallon for them to live stress free.

Awesome planted tank! Great video talking about Bala sharks. I didn't know they could potentially get to 2 ft! I'm about to get one small Bala shark and a small Tinfoil barb for my 250 gallon. Can't wait until I get them to a big size, gonna be awesome..

Loved the vid, but what some people don't know is that if you house fish like bala sharks in a smaller tank like say a 20gallon, they will probably only get say 8"long, because what the fish do is they know there living in a smaller tank so they release a hormone that stops there physicle growth but there internal growth will still grow. Now Im not saying u should house them in a small tank but if you do they will die earlier because they can't fully grow.

I have 2 of them. The shop I bought them from said they are aggressive fish and you shouldn't have more than 2. Since then I have learnt that they aren't aggressive or even actual sharks. Still im happy with them and they have grown a lot in 6 months

Yes, you could move him to the 100 gallon tank. It would be big enough for him but Bala sharks should be kept in groups of at least 3. Even 3 would be ok in a 100 gallon, so get him some friends. I have 5 in a 180 gallon tank.

Here is the thing with that, guppies TEND to loose their shape if kept in big areas they keep shape if they are in a small tank. Balas need room so keep that in mind. if you do keep them together you have to raise the bala sharks with them when the bala is young so it doesn't eat them.

Hi, I got two of these shark fish about 6 to 7cm long inside 130L aquarium. Also with them I got 2x small cat fish, 2x small orange flame gouramis, 2x medium size three doted gouramis (not sure correct name) and 2x small Congo tetra. Inside I got natural plants, rocks, driftwood, lots of bubbles and 2 filter pump. Do you think my shark would get along with them in this environment. Got them today so they new to the community. I love the look of Bala sharks, but they get so big so I will probably never get one myself. I was at Petco today and the 2 baby Bala sharks in the store was smaller than my pinky and I have small hands already. To think they start out so small and then poof growth spurt.

its not cruel when they're that small i raised mine in 10 gallons at first and boy you should have seen how happy they were when they went into my 125 but honestly unless you can truly part with the fish just make sure you can provide the space when it does get bigger

yeah thats better then a 10 gallon buta 30 and 40 is still very small for this fish, to be honest i don't know whats easier for you either to save money for a big tank or just go out and buy a big tank. also you've gotta think do you have the space for a tank that size

Wayne how long did it take your Bala to get 8 inches... I have two Balas in a 9 foot tank... I've had luck in getting Oscars, common Gold fish, Tin foil Barbs, and rainbow / retail sharks big in 1 to 2 years... But my Kissing Gouarmi and Balas are small even after 2 plus years...

+Erica Hill the only way you can 100% WAY TO TELL is when they are breeding, the male's pepilia is narrow the female's is wide. there are tricks to sex but i've seen a female i thought was a male by every characteristic males have and then boom when she spawned i saw she was the female

There is only 1Bala shark in this tank, and I say he is 8 inches in the video. I also say in the video that balas get to be 14 inches, and i also said i heard a story where they got to reach 2 feet. So no my bala is not 14 inches........yet
