I normally just let my nose over landings do the balancing, some dirt and a few chips missing usually does the job. :)

What would you do for a high end carbon fiber prop? I’m thinking like the kind that are going on the giant scale Imac planes.

Hello. Quick question please. I have foxtech w48 22 390kv motors. I bought 1755 cf propeller. For some reason the drone pulled to one side during the take off and broke two props. I didn't know what was the problem but i think it's the propellers. Now after some searching i found out the right propeller is 1447. I don't know which to get apc or carbon fiber. Because some people said they make a lot of vibrations. It's for a quadcopter

You didn't say, and it wasn't clear from the video , when removing weight, whether you sand leading edge or trailing edge? I'm assuming trailing.
@MotionRC2 ай бұрын
Yep, I remove trailing to keep the leading clean and smooth

Don't remove material from the front face of the prop. It's better to ad material than Remove as it can weaken the prop. especially if you need to Balance the hub.

My prop balancer came with a bent shaft what should I do to fix , just purchased it and used it to find out shaft bent ?

you can try to bend it back with a vice, is this our Benchcraft prop balancer? If so, contact customer service

Hi James did you remove the material from the back of the prop ?

I wiped off the excess as I sanded yes.

I also dynamically balance my props using a flight controller like Inav or Beta Flight. temporarily mount it to the plane with double sided tape. connect to the computer and go to the sensor configuration page and spin up the motor. You will see the lines move and jump around when there is vibrstion. You want to do it with an already statically balanced prop. Then its just trial and error to find the heavy side wuth tape. You then sand off material. Its not worth it if you crash a lot. I only do it to my high speed pylon racers. If it crashes the prop and the whole plane is totaled. 😂

I have a smaller rig to balance. Never tried a 3 blade prop thou. You done James?
@victorrcjets76604 жыл бұрын
Same method. Keep changing positions to see which one drops the fastest. The heavier one of course will be on the bottom.
@DadsRCHangar4 жыл бұрын
@@victorrcjets7660 did not think of that Victor. I will have to give it a go, need a taller rig. 👍🏻

My process on three blade props, which I mainly use. Usually Master Airscrew glass filled nylon, but works on plastic or wood as well. Install prop on balancer. One blade will be towards bottom, every time. Two blades will be high and on each side of vertical center. One of the top two blades (which are the two light blades) will be hanging lower than the other. Lightly use sandpaper evenly down the entire length of the lower blade (it is the heavier of the two lighter blades), sand until the heaviest blade (the one actually pointing down, not the one you are sanding) hangs in the completely vertical piston pointing down. At this point the two light blades are the balanced leaving the remaining heaviest blade pointing straight down. Now apply the sandpaper to the heavy blade until prop stays where you put everytime with no blade swinging to the bottom. At this point all three blades are balanced. I know some people use tape, but tape can come off in mid flight. This can lead to instant severe vibrations that at high rpm can shatter a planes structure violently. By sanding this is prevented as no material removed by sandpaper can magically reappear later. May be other ways, but that is how I do them. Can make a video and post on my KZbin chsnnel if it would help, when i get home this afternoon. Maybe, I only have my phone camera.

Disagree with your need to add tape to the propeller, and NEVER put it on the back of the propeller (lifting surface!). Many people forget that alsoby using your method of adding weight, you are also disrupting the airfoil and lifting properties of the propeller airfoil, thereby reducing lifting properties of that propeller blade and what you are doing by adding the tape in this way is "aerodynamically unbalancing" the propeller, which will be just as detrimental as a propeller balanced with gravity.
