This video came at a particularly ‘blue’ state of my life. So many things are actually in my control and i just need to take charge and set my path to being more present, grateful and enjoying life (and running) again. So many of my friends do meditation. I’ve always resisted it, but now I feel it’ll be a great addition to my life. Thanks for this ‘reset’ for me! Good luck w/your upcoming marathon in Berlin!

Listening and trying to identify every bird song/call while I’m out running really helps me get back ‘in the moment’ when I’m distracted by unwanted thoughts- it’s meditative, relaxing and helps steady my HR. As a distiller, I’m going to say ‘all things in moderation, including moderation’ 😊🍸Thanks Flo for a great interview with Kyle❣️

So refreshing/uplifting to hear an ultra runner say my easy runs went to 15 minutes per when I began training low heart rate! I’m experiencing this now. Very timely. Thank you

Outstanding! Great conversation around ways to relax and care for the body and mind. It goes much beyond running. Love that you brought that aspect in the conversation in this channel ❤️🙏

Thank you very much Kyle Whalum for sharing important segments of your life with us. I will make sure I am humble to accept and practice the low heart rate MAF training, as you did. Flo, best wishes on the upcoming Berlin Marathon.

I have been watching your podcast for a while now and when you mentioned Volcom and trade shows, I realized I met you like 20+ years ago at SurfExpo in Orlando I was skating the vert ramp, trying to hang with the pro's back then.

I enjoy Kyle’s take on being open to the process and treating running as a practice. You are always practicing, it’s never a destination, but a journey. Very enjoyable episode. 1:07:14

My favorite takeaway is that low heart rate training sucks in the beginning and I'm not alone. I need to do what he says and be humble.

Great interview and thoughts from both of you! Floris I really admire your attitude and way to approach life, and this podcast/youtube channel is brilliant! I have started to run again after two years pause and the content has been very inspirational, and not just from running! Keep up the good work and all the best in your training for Berlin! BTW, how is your heart rate at the competion, I watched this video (and Strava) from your training at track on May when you made ”rehersal” running under 3 hours (so easy 😅). It seemed from Strava that your HR were relative low or where they on level when you run your actual maraton? They seemed to be higher than your MAF-level though?

I've been running MAF for just 2 months now.... i've noticed if my mind is focusing on something else instead of my breath, my heart rate drops while maintaining the same speed. May be that's just me, if i kept thinking of lowering my heart rate, it gives me more stress and my HR would go up instead.

Lol I notice the same thing: if I think about my heart rate, my watch beeps. I know Dr. Maffetone says to not listen to podcasts, but... I do. It helps keep the HR down.

Thank you for what I've learned through your channel, especially because you invite so many experts to your channel, and we can learn from their experiences. I have a question. I am 40 years old and started low heart rate training five weeks ago. Initially, I could barely jog and had to take many breaks in between. In five weeks, with six days a week of training, I was able to improve my LHR pace from 8.40 to 7.00 km/min, which I am very proud of. However, my knees have been hurting for the past two weeks. I should reduce my running. Currently, I am running for 90 minutes, covering 12 km. On Sundays, I run 18-20 km ~ 150 minutes. Do you think the positive effects will still occur if I only run for an hour? I heard that 90 minutes is already the minimum.

I'm a great fan of MAF but I've often wondered, do I adjust my HR number by -1 every year as I age? (I haven't for the last two years). Thanks. Love the videos.

Happy to hear that John. I wouldn't, I'd decide based on feel what you think is best with the -1 each year

Hi again Floris. I have a question I was hoping you could help me with. Ive started running zone 2 / MAF and sometimes I run with my wife. She is a lot slower at her MAF HR than me, so what ive done is take extra steps or small jumps to increase my HR, so that I can run at her MAF pace whilst being at my MAF HR. My question is, is this still beneficial for me - running a lot slower but still at MAF HR?
@FlorisGierman
@FlorisGierman Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, just enjoy your runs together. Don't overcomplicate it. Running below MAF still gives benefits and bonus points on getting out there together with your wife. Happy wife, happy life :)
