Maybe not the best way but it works and may work on larger blades

Thanks, I used your blade balancing method on my 6 blade attic fan and it worked like a charm. I also made sure the mount that holds the was even on the motor itself. That is the distance from the top of the motor to the top of the metal brace. No more vibration coming from the attic.Next !

I've fixed many fans using this same method for years, works like a charm. I'm an electrician so I install ceiling fans all the time and this trick is a life saver since alot of new fans often have slightly bent blades from bad shipping/handling, especially cheapo box store fans.

Excellent ,you just saved me a packet, used your technique and after 3 attempts got it perfect, now the heater fan of my classic car is vibration free. Thank You.

Just had a new attic fan installed and it was loud. Thought I'd bought too much fan. Watched this video then spent some time in the attic and I think I've got it fixed. Thanks for this video.

Thanks, just saved me possibly a bunch of money and time. I was going to buy a fan off e-bay and have to move my food to my parents after a bent fan blade. Thanks for a great video, I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into the video because it saved me time effort and money.

Ok this helps a lot! I like antique fans from the 50s back I will try this technique on the next fan I buy! I recently bought a 1945 manning bowman and once I straightened the blades and put 3n1 20 weight in it, it runs like a top! It has only one speed high (single on off switch) and pushes the air better than modern day metal fans. It even has a mechanical oscillator! Best purchase in a long time!

I love the old antique fans. I had an old GE fan once when I was younger.... I made the mistake of tearing it apart :(........ I have made fans out of these refrigertor fans before.... they make a nice breeze.

I love these old fans. The motor is eh, a little worn but I knew I bent the blade back a little when I took it out so it wasnt hard to get it back. Thank you for the extra information. I do have some small fans that need further adjustment on them. They are kinda aligned but the whole blade is out of whack.

Thanks for the video. I used it to fix the metal fan in my 1980s wall furnace. Worked like a charm!

Good tip on doing this. What you are doing is getting the blades into basic alignment, another area that can get affected is the "clock" - which is the distance between each blade and cause a weight balance issue. Usually getting the blades into alignment does make a big difference, it's rare that I have to mess with clocking or weight balance. I usually can get the vibration to a minimum level or even eliminate it. That big blade pitch does make for a quiet fan.

I never fool with those fans in that much detail in drink coolers , I just wack them with a screw driver handle while running till they stop hitting stuff , and stop vibrating like hell lol
@More350Power12 жыл бұрын
@daddytech Possibly, but with most of these the blades are aluminum and once you have balanced / straightened them they are quieter. The main thing is the balance but you also have a probably small change in air flow if you knock the blade pitch off. I had bent one of the blades when I removed this motor and I want to make a desk fan out of it that doesnt rattle LOL

@mbyr31 Ive done it with the old big square box fans with the metal blades and it worked. Something I read in an old library book when I was like 4 LOL, thanks man!

The each blade in the fan disk must be in the same rotational plane and each blade must be set at the exact same pitch , in true interest there is an example for Helicopter rotors called "how to set Blade Tracking that has a visual refrence hint that may help as well by understanding the concept of what they are doing ,, How to Track and Balance Sport Rotor Rotorblades Part 1 , It might work to use a adjustable strobe light and a reference mark on the edge of each blade it would make it easy to see what blade is out of track with the others and if it has too much or not enough pitch.

very helpful video, though I was hoping to see what might be obvious to most--HOW to actually bend the blades accurately; just use pliers?

thanks, I'll use this method on my torpedo heater fan.(it shakes a little bit) It would have been interesting to see the blades bent and how you actually straightened them

Thank you for watching. Yea, I wished I had done it on camera, just never thought of it. I will have to get another one of these that is out of balance as its easier to show than to describe.
@More350Power11 жыл бұрын
it all depends on where they are bent.... im used to and have a feel for blades. these thin ones here it was easier to do with my bare hand. you dont want to nick the metal if you can help it. I try not to use pliers and if I do, I make sure the jaws are coated with say duct tape so you dont crease the metal.

@towrecker Nope, not stolen..... given to me just like the street light you didnt see :) That one is an 8 inch diameter lens which is considered illegal for traffic control from the 1950's. They sell 12 volt incandescent bulbs with the regular base... used in motor homes. I made a timer for that stoplight also ;) Ebay ebay ebay if your looking!!! though I knew the right person for this one!
@More350Power12 жыл бұрын
@towrecker You would do that.... but in the drink coolers they rattle anyway lol. This came from an old fridge and I wanna make a desk fan from it.
@daddytech12 жыл бұрын
could you not use solder or melt lead on the blade to balance it if it's just say slightly worn out bearings.

1/4” sorry bub, but do to personal experience ima have to say ur wrong. I have a emerson, and @1/8” it shook like there was no tommorrow, but netherless great vid, just one question, how do u deal wirh the curve in the blade? Is it the same way?
@More350Power5 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the pitch of the blade I try to match what appears to have not been bent and I measure it on a flat surface. Sometimes blades can be out in different areas and 1/4" will be too much. I have had some that I just could not balance. They are cheap to find anymore so I replace them if necessary.

Did I miss something? You showed how to measure but not how to adjust...!?

With metal blades you would gently bend them back into shape
@chrome98Ай бұрын
That's geometry/Pitch not balance. Balancing has to do with weight. Uneven weight is what causes vibration if the geometry is correct.

hi. i kicked a ball and it hit the ceiling fans now it bent
@More350Power7 жыл бұрын
That would be a little harder to straighten, the metal on those might crack if you try to bend it back....

Very bad method I think blade balance should b balanced not angle balance. Weight of every leaf must b. Same weight

It helps to remove a lot of shake, especially when one tip was bumped or bent.
