You are so welcome , I have not banked over winter! Seems like you would do the same but if the cluster were to move away (assuming you may be a cold area) they would die. If you over winter in just one box then all should work!

It's almost a full decade that I cage around 100 queens every year at this time. It's a cage made from a queen excluder so bees can pass and the queen stays in from 20 to over 30 days.. depending on my timing and my plans for the fall flow. I do it so I can treat only once with oxalic acid.. and I do it before the dearth caused by a drought and dry heat with horrible temps. There's no green grass here. So the brood box becomes a pollen-bee bread box (l don't have hive beetles) and the bees have nobody to feed and don't fly much. And I do it for the supersedure queens that I love which bees make if l give them a chance for it. It usually takes 3 days for the queens to start laying after releasing but some start in a day. They lay winter bees and don't stop until they fill everything. This method saved me a lot of money on food. I don't have to watch bees suffering in a desert.. whayting for October rain that comes in September... damn l will collect my comments and there's a book 🤣. Anyway, I never had problems with caging queens this way. It's a hand made cage that goes in the comb under the top bar.. 5×7cm excluder on both sides

Great teaching video as always. I have the advantage of having my 80+ year old father who's always ready to extract honey with a small extractor. He says it's his pocket money. So he makes me frames with wax sheets and I bring him frames of honey. Those white plastic jester nucks are great for that traveling of frames. So l can give some space to the congested ones... It's all over here.. all l still have to do is to "bank" my drones hives. So my drones are the last alive here. There's a hole process for that. I'll write some other time before this turns into a book. Love your hat's statement in the end.. ✌we had to fight to liberate our land from the seme kind of aggressor... peace sister.. peace

I'm sorry if I'm asking basic questions, I'm not a beekeeper but my beloved Uncle was and it sparks my interest, though I'll never keep hives of my own. I wonder, the banking is to give the queens a rest, and then you can shuffle them around? But what's the advantage of shuffling them around?

It is to put queens in a safe place, so they do not swarm. I then can put them in hives where a queen may need replacing. Queens do not really like a rest, it stresses them. But queens get old and need to be replaced so banking does 2 things for me - 1. keeps them from swarming from an over packed hive 2. let's me use my equipment efficiently Great question, someone else probably wanted to know too😁 hope that helped
