Bob and I are cousins and both of us are beekeepers. I have been keeping bees for almost 30 years. I think beekeeping runs in the family. 40 hives here. Keep up the good work Bob!

I can't put my finger on it, but there is this prevailing elitist attitude of "beekeepers" vs "bee-havers". We are trying to promote helping bees in general. Just because someone isn't a "purist" or doesn't go through every meticulous detail of a master beekeeper, does not mean they aren't providing a service to the general bee population. It's really annoying to read some of the comments that take this tone and for some might be extremely discouraging, and in the end providing fewer shelters for these really cool animals.
@jdeking22 жыл бұрын
A master beekeeper is just someone who has to have a paper to prove they know something. It's a relatively new thing that wasn't around 10-15 years ago. That paper and $4.00 now can get you a cup of coffee anywhere. A real master will not brag but pull you under their wings to teach you. It's kind of like those who get a doctorate degree in something and insist on being called a Dr . I think the biggest thing about bee havers vs beekeepers is that bees from bee havers tend to pass on disease and mites to other hives because they are not properly maintained. Going organic with bees just doesn't work and keeps the pest and disease problems growing. Beekeepers treat and bee havers ignore the pestilence. Most of us old timers won't look down on beginners but will teach without arrogance like most master beekeepers. Let the stones fly now!!!

I love honey bees. Its the hornets, wasps/YellowJackets which scare the living crap out of me lol.. Its strange, I'll see a honey bee get stuck in my truck or car, and I'll quickly grab some honey off my toast, and put some on my finger, I'll pull over, and let the honey bee onto my finger and then just place the beautiful girl onto a tree branch. :D Its awesome. :D What breaks my heart is the fact these beautiful bees are in danger of "Colony Collapse Disorder" Which is caused by the Neoocinoids (I think that's the spelling) which is causing the colonies to die off... I want to makes sure my children know where honey comes from... and how much importance these beautiful insects make in our everyday lives!

What does it mean when rye bees start swarming?
@FlowHive2 жыл бұрын
A swarm is the bee colony actively splitting, with almost 2/3 of the colony leaving with the original queen to start a new hive somewhere else, a new queen is left in charge of the remaining bees to restart the colony. Think of it as the bees not keeping all of their eggs in the same basket, its a natural method of spreading good genetics and survival. -Kieran

hi sir, if I use the flow hive technic, when the langstorth is filled the honey, should I harvest too?
@FlowHive7 жыл бұрын
Hi Yan, We usually only run a Flow Super or Flow Hybrid Super. If you have a regular langstroth Super you will need to assess how fully that Super is and if the honey is capped. We recommend you ask local beekeepers or your local beekeeping club as they are the best resource for advising on the most suitable beekeeping methods depending on the region and climate. I hope this helps.

Your bees swarmed in the first year of having bees? More info please! the flow hive is being discounted heavily by the beekeeping community (myself in this bunch) if you have a new hive and new bees- they should NOT be swarming in 4 months!!!!!!
@HaysiKing7 жыл бұрын
Karianngardenguru exactly what I said. I also don't know many knew bee keepers who go gloveless. I've been doing it for a year and my first hive took months to fill a deep super.
@XxBloggs3 жыл бұрын
So 4 years later Flow Hive is going from strength to strength and more and more people are getting into beekeeping because of them. Swarming is a normal and natural thing that happens with bees and has nothing to do with the flow hive. I wouldn’t be beekeeping without it’s harvesting technology.

I used to apply pesticides to peoples houses and I was surprised how many people never asked about the chemicals. I was always told to say solutions but they were chemicals. Anyways, not many people really questioned me what was in the chemicals. They'd ask, is it safe? I had one woman who actually asked and did research before buying the extermination package. I was like or I was thinking "you're not going to be comfortable with anything that is used so you may want to try something else". WOuld i use pesticides, yes but I wouldn't spray any pesticides on my plants or food sources.

What Flow™ hive does is make extracting the honey easy. Part of keeping a beehive is inspecting the hive for disease, especially in the brood box where the queen and workers live. This is the same for Flow™ Hives as it is for traditional hives To do this, you need to open up the hive, so you will need to get a beekeeper’s suit and a smoker. This is an important part of beekeeping to ensure your bees stay healthy. :) - leah

This is probably why their's such a shortage in beekeepers. Ya'll are judgmental af. Makes me not want to get involved with my local association. If something works (obviously it does) and the bees are happy, then dont knock it.
