I tell myself it's the drivetrain management but I also love the blips as I come down the gears. If you can do it in a tunnel. Makes your day.

Fascinating video - I have an E86 coupe and have been trying to explain to my friends why you want to heel and toe and rev match. You do a much better job of explaining it than I have. However, unlike yourself I find the Z4's pedals very easy (only have a mk3 MX5 and VW Polo for comparison though) and can simply role my foot over, so half my foot is on the brake, the other half blips the accelerator. Additionally I think once you've gotten used to the car and process, you can then come off the clutch quite quickly and still keep it smooth.

Thanks Harry, appreciate it and glad you found the video useful. Agree - after a while you can usually find yourself being able to bring the clutch out straight away as the rev blip is almost exactly right 👍

One of the main reasons BMW pedal placement is better than any Audi I have driven.

Interesting video. I also have a Z86 3.0si Sport Manual but at 6'8 and with size 13 feet, I have to choose my footwear very carefully when driving mine! Going to get some practice in now!

Yeah it can certainly be difficult in some cars if you have bigger feet, a very nice thing to do though once you get the hang of it!

Good video 🙂. I found out driving older cars like Peugeot 307 2005 1.4 petrol and Honda Accord 2006 2.0l that you have to put first clutch in and while that rev a bit before the engine drops rpm, it's gotta be fast before engine start to drop revs . Maybe timing it this way Clutch in>take gear out of example forth to neutral before going 3rd>rev a bit (how much your car need but let say 10-20% throttle)>clutch out fast. 🙂

Yeah sometimes if synchros are worn you might have to declutch, it sounds like that's what you're describing! Either way takes skill to be able to do it properly but I imagine quite satisfying

Hi, I've just discover your channel and I really like how you explain and you film your vidéos! I have a question its funny but, I want to buy a Z4 coupe or a mini jcw 231 (manual gearbox for thé twice, and they are at the same price in France) And I have actually a BMW Z3 COUPE 3.0L What do you advise me to buy? Do you prefer your Z4 or sometimes your Mini miss you? Thanks you

Thanks very much! I think both cars are great options and picking one or the other really depends on preference. The Z4 is the better drivers car and I personally prefer the sound of that straight six too! However the JCW is probably the easier car to live with and works brilliantly as an all rounder, the Z4 is also still pretty good at this. I do sometimes miss the power delivery from the turbocharged JCW but having rear wheel drive is also cool. Hope that helps!

How much your flywheel weight?
@FootToPedal2 жыл бұрын
Not sure actually, it's standard but the way the revs fall back on these engines it can't be very heavy!

Have you thought about supercharging your car?
@FootToPedal2 жыл бұрын
I haven't actually, I personally like the power level of the E86, don't feel it really needs more power
@sv33512 жыл бұрын
@@FootToPedal yea the SI models like yours have a nice bump over the other models. It's very 50/50 on supercharging this engine. Not too expensive at around 5k US. Just a thought!

Yeah if you're running an M54 I can definitely see the appeal there, is probably one of the best value for money upgrades you can do in terms of power for that engine!

The NA aspect of this N52B30 is gold and you should keep it like that in my humble opinion.

I admit I am still trying to get used to heel and toe... I like barefoot shoes (very thin soles).
