This video explains in a lighthearted way, everything you need to know about what to wear to a funeral, when you have been asked to be a pallbearer. The video describes the casket, the burial site or grave.
What to expect when attending a funeral service, memorial service or celebration of life. We go over the whole deal in three minutes or less, and you will have the basics on how to lift a casket, how much a casket weighs, and how to walk around a grave safely, while carrying a casket.
We will show the hearse, the grave, church truck, and the casket lowering device. Our hope is that you will be prepared and feel more comfortable when serving as a pallbearer.

Noh Botty - Hi. First off, my condolences to you on the loss of your best friend. It’s a real honor to serve as a pall bearer. Depending on the type of svcs that have been arranged, it’s not bad at all. In my case, my friend went from funeral home to church and finally to cemetary. At funeral home at the appropriate time, a staff member comes out to gather the six people who will be pallbearers. You’ll sign a log and have a small flower pnned to your lapel or shirt. When staff is ready to move casket to hearse, again a staff member will gather pall bearers and give instruction at exit on positioning and lifting of casket into hearse. We rode in a funeral home Limo to the next stop at church. Depending on distance from parked hearse to inside of church, this is the somewhat difficult part. Again with guidance from funeral director, we each took our place behind hearse and carried casket to church entry point and lifted it onto a gurney type device and rolled it the rest of the way in. This was repeated after church service, then for the last time at the cemetary. In my case, I was so focused on being a good pall bearer that I didn’t get emotional. It wasn’t until we stood by the casket at the cemetary that I got emotional. My friend was a veteran, so viewing his flag draped casket, the gun salute and military honors really choked me up. Just a heads up for you. I don’t know if this is standard procedure, but we pallbearers were the first in line to offer comfort and condolences to immediate family seated in front row. You may want to give a little thought to what you’d like to say to your friends mom. Overall, it’s physically easy. Just be focused and you’ll be fine. As I said earlier, it’s a true honor and an experience you’ll always remember as it is a gesture of love to your best friend and a real tribute to you from your friend’s mom. I’m honestly not sure if I saw this video before or after the funeral last year in August. But the thing is, my dad and I both had a really good friend who unfortunately passed away in August of last year, and we showed up to his funeral on the day of his funeral, and nobody asked for me to be one, but I decided to help, to carry his dead body to his grave, and my dad asked me if I was going to be a pallbearer, and I wasn’t sure if I was happy or excited to be one, but I was more than honored to be one, and I knew what I had to do, in order to be a pallbearer, and carry my friend’s dead body to his grave, to where we buried him at the cemetery. And when I showed up to his funeral on that day, there was a sign-up sheet, and there was white gloves, and I don’t remember if I did or didn’t ask what the white gloves were for, but I eventually figured it out, and I was never a pallbearer in my life up until that day. So I decided to, sign my name on the sheet, and I don’t remember if this was or wasn’t one of the funeral directors, but I was given my white gloves, as well as the boutonniere or whatever the flowers called, and what happened that day was, and it was unfortunate, the flower that was pinned on me, kept on falling off, and it happened to me twice, considering that it wasn’t pinned on all the way, but regardless of that, all I know is that I decided to, just go with the flow of what was going to happen next on that day, and I just decided to not worry about the flower falling off from me, as I decided to only carry the body and put my white gloves on top of the casket, as soon as we got to the gravesite on that day. And my dad was eventually talking to the sister of the dead guy, of our friend who passed away, and he told her that, the guy who died knew me when I was a kid, and the guy respected me as a friend, and I both loved and respected him like family, and since he mentioned that on the day of the funeral, when my dad said that to his sister, I have never forgotten that, as I have grown up in my life and lost a lot of good people, as well as my dad, and we lost a lot of people in my family, and we lost a lot of good friends, and that is why I don’t regret helping to carry my dead friend, from when he passed away in August of last year. And that will always stay with me, and I also learned, once you are a pallbearer, after you carry your family member’s dead body, or even your dead friend’s body to the gravesite, to wherever he or she will be buried, it is a really nice and beautiful and unforgettable thing, considering that you could be a pallbearer again for another day, as soon as someone who you are close to passes away, either if that’s anyone who’s in your family, or even a good and close friend of yours. And if I have to, I would absolutely love to be a pallbearer again, either if the person is a family member, or even a really good and close friend of mine, as soon as he or she passes away, and as soon as we have a funeral for him or for her.

I've done it 5 times. In my opinion, accept the HONOR of being asked. Of all of the people the deceased, and their family knew........you are one of 6 that they trust with the body of their loved one. Oh, and unless what you're supposed to wear hasn't been decided upon. Wear a suit. It's ALWAYS better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. You don't want to be the only guy there in jeans and tennis shoes!!!!
