a tip is to use this wax together with a hairdryer..to regulate temperature hold a finger between the suit ...like keep it just warm / bit hot...like just you want to pull back .

Reading a few comments they go on about the long hose and The way your doing it is right however you need to sort out the hose length I noticed on the back up hose you use a octopus hose, it doesn’t need to be that long it’s only for you and the hose can cause entanglement it should be either a 22” or 24” hose.

Knowing the water is very cold (below 6C?) why are you guys diving with only one first stage? Nice vid, good tips!

@AtraxJoe

@@moha67380 Absolutely and 100% correct. It's dangerous, it's unprofessional, it's just stupid to dive in such a cold environment using just one first stage. I'm doing a lot of ice diving in Austria, great lakes and literally NO ONE is scuba diving using just one first stage. One of the first things u'll learn for ice diving but to be honest, their opinion regarding dry suit diving and the buoyancy, just using the bcd and not the dry suit is..... really weird. Don't take me wrong, everyone should have an opinion and they should do whatever they want but not to learn using and handling the dry suit itself as a buoyancy device is a bit careless, at least to me. Cheers

@AtraxJoe actually, they're 100% right. It's even in the name: with BCD (boyancy control device) one controls his/her boyancy. Dry suit = keeps one dry. If Dry suit was intended for boyancy control, it would have been named "BCS"- (Boyancy Control Suit).

Hi, David & Kevin! Even though you mentioned that you use mainly BCD to control your buoyancy, can you please give some tips on how to control buoyancy -- well, in fact, to maintain neutral buoyancy -- using drysuit itself. Thanks a lot in advance!

I went all they way down to the lake only to realize that i must have ripped my neck seal while taking it off just prior to going out to the lake. Any tip on removing the neck seal. Same as putting it on? Two hands in the seal of either side of the neck and gently move head through. I see from your other video that you have dove both types of drysuit that aqualung and also that D1 hybrid. Pros and cons of each? Does one stand out more than the other. How long is a typical dive?

@Magmadive 8 жыл бұрын
D1 Pro's - looks awesome, tough and durable, cool features such as clip in cuffs and neck Cons - Mesh layer smells after a few dives and gets heavy when wet, boots need to be re-inforced AQUALUNG Pro's - Solid design, simple features, excellent seals on wrists and neck Con's - bulky, dull looking, knee pads fray after sometime Hope this helps

Great video. Weirdly I have came across it as I research my next drysuit... and the two brands I am looking at are Aqualung (Apeks) and Waterproof. Also weirdly, I carried out a DPV dive many, many years ago. I was waiting for my buddy on the seabed and it jammed on unexpectedly and shot me to the surface (holding it by it's handle on the nose!). Wouldn't turn off (leaky seal)!

Never used ankle weights diving with D1 with the inner mesh or without it. I use the hollis F1 Bat Fin. they are super heavy and are negatively buoyant in the water so pull my feet down while diving.

Thanks for the tip! At the moment I'm using TiZip despite all the negative opinions I've read. Made about 50+ dives in it, and there wasn't any problems, so I guess it's not so bad. Actually plastic zipper feels so much better then metal iron bar in front of you (I'm using front entry config). So I'm not regret for switching to plastic. But time will show anyway.

Not a diver, just looking at your video which is very good and informative, so why are the zips made from metal that corrode? why not quality stainless steel or nickel plated brass, or other metals that resist salt corrosion, I cannot see why manufacturers use metal that corrodes on vital equipment.
@97Arran
@97Arran 7 жыл бұрын
Its a brass zip. Iv not known them to rust only corrode if left un washed and used. Also wax as at some point especially from diving cold conditions fouls the zip, then people use boiling water from a kettle to wash it off! These zips can last for years if looked after properly.

What is the reason behind o-ring blowing out? I'm using yoke regulator all the time, at winter in very cold water and at summer, when water is about 24 C here, and I've never had this problem. The real benefit of DIN reg is that it's can handle more pressure then yoke.
@Magmadive
@Magmadive 8 жыл бұрын
The o-ring is less exposed to the changing pressure gradients. DIN is rock solid - there is no substitute! Especially deep down in the blue.

The deeper you go more compressed your undergarments get. I get cold in 2 degree celsius water when I don't add air to my drysuit every few meters. Two of instructors I dive with (cave instructors) claim that drysuit are for contolling the buoyancy, while bcds are for surface and emergencies. Also I can't imagine diving with only one 1st stage in water below 7 degrees. This is irresponsible PS bending your knees helps!

1. Layers are important, good stuff (especially wool) 2. Babypowder helps the wristseals slide over skin easier 3. Warm water in the wet gloves helps postponing cold hands 4. I respect your view on bouyency control but I don't agree. You have to compensate (fill the suit on your way down, empty the suit on your way up) anyway to prevent squeeze or air leakage from neck/wrists. Controlling one valve will always be easier than controlling 2. The legs up "problem" will always be there when using a drysuit, but fairly easy to avoid.

Nice video guys, your videos usually are. However, there are some things that struck me strange in this one First being the statement that the “DIN way” is the only way to dive in Iceland. This is very wrong and the majority of Icelandic divers still use YOKE although DIN is getting more popular. With proper care and use there is absolutely nothing wrong with using YOKE first stages in Iceland. The main issue is that the first stages need to be EN250 certified or approved for cold water diving. Another is the statement about divers rarely using their dry suit for buoyancy. It is actually very common for divers to user their dry suit for buoyancy control, especially for divers that dive in Trilam or similar dry suits but more uncommon for neoprene dry suit divers. However, I would suggest that only one buoyancy device (suit, wing or BCD) be used so not to complicate matters. Using your dry suit as a buoyancy device can be tricky at first and no one should dive in dry suits unless getting proper training using it. There are no Turtles in Iceland :) and few in places where divers usually dive in dry suits. Thermal protection is crucial, that is really true when diving in dry suit. Wool or wool blends is probably the best thermal protection available for dry suit divers as it keeps its insulation properties even when wet. However, in the video you guys mention the importance of socks, which is truly important to… but… you say you use normal pair of socks, cheap, as a layer underneath the wool socks. Some might have heard the phrase “Cotton kills”. Hopefully these cheap socks were not made of cotton as cotton clothing is one of the no no’s in diving as when you perspire any cotton clothing touching your skin will absorb your sweat like a sponge and it ceases to insulate. Same could happen with a dry suit leak, even a small one. Just some pointers, my view :) but keep up the good work
@irisharch
@irisharch 8 жыл бұрын
agree with all of what you mentioned. david sometimes gets carried away in these videos which is something i wouldn´t change for the world! never used cotton in diving in my life only wool and i only use merino wool from Woolpower!

For me its gotta be the D1. I have made over 1000 dives in 4yrs in mine and only now its starting to show its use. Time for a zipper to be replaced etc.. Its a workhorse. For some the neck collar is abit restrictive on it particularly for technical divers but i've never had a problem with that. Its a well made decent suit.
