How, as a woman, your only real risk of ever being homeless is through INTENSE drug abuse, and how you never really have to worry about developing skills or, these days, much of a personality.

I’m currently a first year studying to be a professional dancer at Bird College Conservatoire in Sidcup. I can’t tell you how daunting it is seeing all of these incredible dancers who have been training consistently since childhood. (I started dancing at three, quit when I was eight, and restarted at sixteen). I’m nearly nineteen now and I’m doing all I can to catch up to them. I’m lucky that I have very good facility and flexibility, but I struggle to pick up choreography. It’s my achilles’ heel, really. I can’t help but compare myself to everyone else even though I know it won’t help. Sometimes it feels like I don’t deserve my place at this school. Everyone tells me that I need to be more confident and less hard on myself. Whenever I ask for advice on how to be confident, no one can ever give me anything. There’s really no quick fix. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how much this video helped me as a dancer in training. I will use these tips when I’m in class. Thank you so much xx 👍👍👍

Good luck! I did the same (freakily almost exactly the same!) and was a dancer before starting my own dance school. I'm really sure that you'll be amazing because you're obviously talented, but you also have the determination and drive x

Of course, you deserve a place at the school because otherwise you would not be there! This is the best and most practical talk on confidence I have ever heard, and I'm older than Hannah and Regan put together! I suggest taking notes of what they said. I did. You can put the sentences on post it notes and place those around your room where you will see them all the time, like on the mirror, and by the light switch. I wrote quite a lengthy comment on this video, but I will paste the applicable parts here, because I think they might help you: 👍Be your own best friend! 👍Why do negative thoughts occur? First, one has to have an insecurity. If one has no insecurities, which might happen in situations in which one is extremely comfortable, then there is no fertile soil in which the seeds of self-doubt can grow. Here are some quick quotes which can also help to bat away negative thoughts: 👍"Night changes many thoughts." -Aragorn, Lord of the Rings + 👍"It's always darkest before the dawn." 👍"An empty stomach breeds imagination." -PG Wodehouse 👍Ladies: Hormones fluctuate throughout each month. They can very much influence one's mood such as increasing feelings of anxiety, fear, dread, irritability, and hypersensitivity to what others might be thinking of one. These effects become intensified at night and/or with low blood sugar and/or with fatigue. 👍For recurring negative thoughts: Look up the list of cognitive distortions. A "cognitive distortion is an exaggerated or irrational thought pattern ... that causes individuals to perceive reality inaccurately." Examine the thoughts you're having with that list in front of you. How many cognitive distortions can you identify? 👍Coping skills include what you mentioned in the conversation: Repeating keywords/a comforting phrase/Scripture over and over to oneself/in one's thoughts to calm anxiety and fears. Putting them in a poetic rhyme or meter helps too. "I want to try really hard and do my best" is a bit clunky. "I'm GOing to DO my BEST" has a much smoother flow. It's also easier to recall in times of immediate and unexpected stress and can assist with deep breathing. 👍Deep breathing is the ability to control one's breath which can physically reduce symptoms of anxiety and fear, which helps to reduce mental anxiety. This is a skill one takes with one absolutely everywhere. And it also takes a lot of practice. I started to practice by watching scenes from action movies on KZbin and maintaining my breathing. Fun and useful! I realize this is not achievable while doing intense physical exercise, but you have probably found that when one is doing physical exercise, especially intensely, that nagging thoughts tend to go away. Also, the endorphin rush is great for confidence! 👍Quick fix: Doing a good deed, and/or paying compliments to other people can also help one to feel better about oneself. If one is struggling with self-confidence on a day that isn't going too well, try telling one's friend (or someone one doesn't talk to that much but who seems nice) her leotard is pretty. Her face will light up, maybe she'll tell one where she got it, thereby starting a conversation which also helps to distract your thoughts. And her happy energy is radiating towards one the whole time! I really hope it helps you! I struggled a lot with confidence in my own education and career training. I wish I had heard this conversation when I was a teenager! Like you, I assumed everybody else was doing great, and was full of confidence, and I was the only one who was unsure of herself. I was also often told I just need confidence. After several months, I began to find out that some of them also had struggles. By the end of training, I had found out that every single person had had at least one major challenge. I think your classmates are like that, too. It's quite probable that you are good at some things which they find difficult. I would bet money that at least one of your classmates envies you for something you do or have. Good luck and best wishes to you! ❤️🙏💐🩰

Wow, Reagan's words on "be careful what you say, because you're listening," was really meaningful to me. It was great to see her again! Also, THANK YOU for speaking about affirmations, as opposed to scripture, because not everyone believes in God. (I have some old religious trauma, so it bothers me a little to hear "God-talk," but it's your channel, and your life, so I would never speak up about it otherwise.) Great conversation!!! 👍💫

This is such a great topic thank you for talking about it I feel like gaining confidence in yourself is so crucial to ballet. I agree completely that going into something with a confident attitude quite literally transforms the way that you dance. It is so normal to lack confidence in yourself as a dancer but just telling yourself “ok today I’m going to be confident even if I don’t feel it I will pretend to be” and it makes the biggest difference ❤❤ such a great conversation and something I’m still working on myself 😊

“How to be confident.” 🙄 You’re playing life on ultra-easy mode. Advice on this from you boils down to, “everyone will fall all over themselves for you, so you don’t even need to develop a personality or talent, as you’ll never worry about being homeless.”
