As a beginner operator this helps tremendously especially the crowding and loading trucks bit. Thanks for taking the time to influence and teach the generation coming up! P.s. since I’m a mechanic currently thanks for teaching people to take care of the machines!

Great video brian. Here's a video idea. I dig on utilities every single gas lines cable water lines etc. I also haft to go do repairs on cables all the times from people who don't properly dig for them when going over them in a trench or spotting them for a drill shot. Maybe you could make video giving people tips and tricks how to dig on top of utilities I could see that doing well.

Lol I been running iron for most of my life and all over the country and one thing in common is every operator thinks they're better then the next lol everyone has something to say about the other. I could care less , just go to work lol

Part of how I learned was through watching other operators in real life and in videos. A lot of these videos are geared toward newer operators who could use some guidance.

This is great content man. I actually learned a lot of this on a dragline, by making those rookie mistakes and having the real operators correct me 😂 Same thing though, booming too high, having the drag cable pulled in to much so the bucket was “curled” up too much, then when when I released the drag brake the bucket slammed instead of realeasing it easily, then coming back over the canal with the bucket too high…..all of it, all the mistakes and still learning 😂 Same principle here. Everything you’re explaining is right on the money. Being efficient with your time is key. Thanks for what you guys do.

I'm a paramedic of 20 years. I run smaller equipment, mini-ex, skid steers, tractors on the side. I am looking possibly at a career change and wanted to know how you go about becoming a full time operator with limited experience?
@DieselandIron2 жыл бұрын
Apply to all the companies in your area. At least 3 of them will be hiring. There's your ticket in the door! It really is that easy. A lot of people think there are some major hurdles to get into this industry which really speaks to how poorly we educate people on the trades. Reach out if you have more questions!
Since you're dumping to the left, start left work your way to the right, that way you can swing and lift at the same time and that material isn't in your way,

In the competetive tree care industry there's this saying "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast". Would you say that concentrating on being smooth is the way to be efficient or is it not the case when it comes to loading dirt in an excavator?
@mackenziepeek93172 жыл бұрын
100%. If you just are rough and fast you'll have to work a spot with your bucket way more than if you focus on being smooth. If you hit it once and a fast operator has to hit it 4 or 5 times you'll always get done first
@DieselandIron2 жыл бұрын
Smooth is absolutely fast in these machines. For the purpose of demonstrating I was over emphasizing a lot of movements so new operators knew what I was talking about. In practice when I am bombing trucks I am still smooth with the motions but I am concentrating on only using one or two functions at a time. It doesn't look as nice and smooth as it would normally but you are increasing your efficiency by not waiting on the hydraulics to keep up with you
@mackenziepeek93172 жыл бұрын
@@DieselandIron on the hydraulics seen a lot of operators when digging keep forcing a motion when the hydraulics have already maxed out. This wastes time and it tough on the pump. Try to learn the capability of the machine and as you reach lock out slowly start letting off the function to avoid hydraulic pressure build up and kickback. Best example I can give would be curling the back it in when it's already all the way in or trying to curl out to fast and slapping the bucket(which is already a no no) and then still hold it trying to curl out more after already slapping the bucket

I can use some advice When I dig a square,how do you square down the side that’s closest to you without moving your position
@DieselandIron2 жыл бұрын
If you are trying to dig a perfect square without moving the machine then this is a difficult task. The best advice I can give is to take small bites along the edge that you are slewing against to shape. This will help you dig in a straight line without overpowering the swing motors.

# 1 thing is, Know what your trying to achieve. Ie; start with the end in mind. Then there's, fill the bucket, don't needlessly pull full buckets through the dirt, if its full disengage from the face and begin to lift/slew towards the dump point. Etc etc One good thing to do is, ALWAYS know exactly where your next bucket is going to come from. There's a trick to getting back to the engagement point at the dig face again but it's another story for another day. And don't top out the hydraulic cylinder rod and ffs, don't dig or jack machine with any rod on its stop... That is #1 rookie tell tale. As well as leaving a full bucket of material ip in the air with the revs not at high. And best Tip for anyone trying to improve proficiency.... DONT TRY AND BE 'FASTER' Just keep an eye on the bucket and always try and be perfectly smooth and precise with all your movements. (Which comes from precise lever inputs and timing, which develops subconsciously in time if you just watch the bucket....) Once all your movements are smooth and precise, and you are able to mentally stay a step ahead of yourself, guess what..... You NATURALLY and 'effortlessly' become much faster. *NEVER try to be fast. Always try be smooth and precise, speed will come naturally.
