Wit is heavily based in associations. Practice doing word associations. It primes your mind for finding connections to things in social settings.

You don't need to do all that ! The one thing that Moody has that you need is confidence. He is who he is and he's confident. You don't need all them "lines" like him ya just dont. I think he does them because he can "he's a writer and he reads alot so he is smart" and it's fun for him

Hey great video by the way. I've been watching Californication for a while. I've been trying to incorporate Hank Moodism for a while. He's great but I always find that I don't feel like myself when I get into Hank Moody character. How can i become like Hank Moody while still feeling myself and feeling comfortable. Thanks
@Artofverbalwar8 жыл бұрын
@Wilson Crone Thanks for your comment! I think the goal isn't to become Hank Moody, but just to develop his overall vibe. The goal is still to be you, my friend, but an upgraded version of you. That means being more carefree, non-reaction seeking, self-amusing, and witty like Hank Moody is. The first three things I listed takes a long time to develop (think of it as a muscle you are growing over time), so don't get frustrated if it doesn't feel like you, even for a long time. You'll get there. As for becoming for more witty, my Hank Moody Guide To Wit might help you with that! www.artofverbalwar.com/hankmoody

Art of Verbal War Min I appreciate the reply. One more quick question. I have friends that are better than me with girls and I notice what they do. I try and take on a lot of their qualities but it makes me feel weird and insecure ...so I was wondering how someone goes about taking on someone else's qualities?
@Artofverbalwar8 жыл бұрын
Wilson Crone To be honest, I think you should do yourself, but seek to become the BEST version of yourself as you can be. As you said, it's unnatural to try to be other people. Seek to be yourself but more carefree, non-reaction seeking, and keep developing yourself. Your time will come, and don't let comparisons with other people discourage you!

For someone who's selling a guide to verbal skills you should probably avoid saying things like "metaphoric speaking". It should be "metaphorical" or, if in doubt, just say "speaking in metaphor".
@Artofverbalwar7 жыл бұрын
You're right, thanks Kenazzle.
@nickbonzer7 жыл бұрын
actually the correct tense for that word is Metaphorically speaking
@davehshs6516 жыл бұрын
Johhny England Yes, metaphorically is correct, but it's not a "tense." Only verbs have tense -- past, present, future. Metaphorically is an adverb. Metaphorical is an adjective.

In my experience you can learn a lot, but wit is for the most part something you either have or you don’t have. The reason is because it’s reactionary, impulsive, spontaneous, and original. Almost everybody can be funny and witty every now and then but few people can get a reputation as a witty or funny person, to be consistently funny or witty. IMO, most people are pretty fucking boring and go about their lives thinking other people’s thoughts. It’s hard to find somebody who’s really creative and original.

You cannot learn wit, in the same way you cannot learn courage. It is a reflection of your mastery over the direction your life takes, reflected onto casual conversation. If you try pulling any of these "techniques" in public you will come off as stilted and awkward. The best way to attain wit in your conversations is to practice jokes. Comedy makes you think fast to keep the tempo of the joke and think of punchlines quick. Sarcasm is also a good tool you can learn and practice with. After a while, sarcastic humor will embed itself in your style of speech and it will flow naturally from there.

I'm a big fan of DD and Californication... but I always get a laugh out of these "How to Be Like Hank Moody and Get the Girl/Be the Alpha Male, etc" video tutes. i. First, his lines only appear clever and funny to us the viewer because of our 3rd person perspective. He does not appear like this to the other characters within the show. Using this advice in real life will get you the same blank looks that Moody gets within the show. You may be self-amused by it, but most other people will roll their eyes. You will not be the alpha male, you will just be the weirdo who sez strange random shit. Like that homeless guy with one shoe they pass in the street every day... ii. Hank gets the girls because that's what the script sez. Women aren't going to see you as some 'deep' guy or some bad boy that needs fixing... Unless they are really, really stupid and that's probably not the sort of woman you're after, even for a one-nighter. iii. Within the show, Moody is generally a pretty self-loathing character. He doesn't give a shit about what people think of him... and most people don't give a shit about him. Which is how people will feel about you too in real life, if you go with this approach. A better approach is to be a better social engineer... learn how to 'read' people/audiences then craft an 'personality' to match. It's what con men do, politicians, people in intelligence and law enforcement, the best sales people, etc. FWIW...

I dont think you'll ever see this comment but anyways, check out a video named "How To Be A Man" by "The School of Life" to understand why people search this kind of stuff, its not only because they're entertaining, its because they can be so entertaining nonchalantly, in another words, they are cool
@ZantherStone7 жыл бұрын
Mike Laplante Disagree. Even tho he gets blank looks in the show, it's still portrays his character of self-amusement and not caring what others think. As a result he distanced many but draws in the few very strongly. Cops and such might read body language but that doesn't translate into making others attracted to them. You have to portray your own personality that some people will latch onto.

Yes it definitely would. I am a huge fan of that character (t.v series version of course). The way he does his minds games and is able to connect with the oddest of people is just mind-blowing.
