This is a great video. Having coached High School and Junior Tennis I can testify that players complain about having to play steady consistent counterpunchers. Tennis is about a winning strategy it’s not about how stylish you look or who hits harder. Players loose to steady counterpunching because they themselves lack the ability to hit approach shots, volleys and accurate and consistent overheads. Every shot you hit should have a purpose, placement and pace that includes spin, trajectory and angles to build a winning strategy. You got to drill to build skills to implement tactics. You can’t coach a player in tactics against consistent players if they don’t have the necessary shots. For recreational players they need to practice instead of warming up for ten minutes then playing a couple of sets making the same mistakes every week. Competitive players need to constantly keep adding shots and skis into their tool box if they want to advance their player rating and ranking.

Amazing video I like what you said about players who think they are better than other players with this style, yet still cannot beat them.

What you said about junior players being better than some people and then losing 6-2, 6-2. It was so true!

I lost to a pusher who really hacked the ball. He won so he is a better player than me. I feel that once you start beating pushers then you really are getting somewhere with your club level tennis.

I wouldnt say its that easy to say... i know and the fact is the won that wins usually is also the better player. Thats a fact but still i think just try to return the ball to make the opponent make the mistake isnt a talent neither a way of respecting tennis because has nothing to do with tennis. Its a lame game and means that person isnt really good at it but knoticed a way how to make the opponent angry and so on. Finally if i watch a game and even if the better player looses to the pusher i respect and have much more attention towards the player that can play tennis and makes nice winners and plays intressting game. Thats tennis and not just lame returning ball and hopping the opponent makes the mistake. Yes it works as one sadly sees but its no tennis art its in my eyes disrespecting and misusing the sport not in a way how it should be. Tennis is about making smart shots in the right time and moment and reading the opponent and learning out of own mistakes and learning about the opponent. Thats tennis and not pushing. Besides if they win not many really support them neither respects them. Real tennis fans respect rarher the looser but the one that knows how to play tennis and not a stupid pusher whatever if they win.

I find counterpunchers to be the most fun to play against because their is so much outplay potential. You can set up points and move them around a lot to come up with great winners

One and a half years ago i started playing tennis again after two decades of "rest". I learned to play when i was very young and was told i had some talent. I noticed that i still had decent technique. Most if not all of the people in their forties and upwards i play with and against have not learned to play at an early age and that shows but its exactly as depicted here. I lose more than i win against people who hit the balls as if theyre playing holliday badminton or tabletennis arghhh. And extremely consistent, which im not. My confidence is gone by now lol. These tips seem good enough though to give it a try

I will use this tomorrow to the best of my ability. I have a pusher to play and last time I played him it was 3 years ago. I'm a different player now. Only thing is he also is known for hooking calls left and right? anything goes near the line it's out omg? lol! Thanks for the tips Coach. It makes practical sense to me,just need to stick to the game plan.

Hi, I am a counterpuncher with lots top spin and I am not good at attacking. However, some people notice I seldom attack. Thus, they choose to be a counterpuncher when facing me. Are there any tips to beat a counterpuncher for a counterpuncher? Thanks!
