Good video…however I do think it’s funny how the sport has labeled players who hit with pace and drive as bangers. Fact of the matter is that at the higher levels of play, there will always be more power. The key is to adjust to the people you’re playing with and keep it fun.

At the higher levels there's lots of pace and power for sure. But they don't just drive the 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc. Bangers are classified as those trying to win off of pace before getting to the kitchen.

@ Ah ha, that makes sense, have never heard that explanation but like it

I’ve played against a couple of “bangers”. I started firing balls right back at them. These guys quickly realized I wasn’t going to be intimidated by them.

Great video,,, this is one my hardest things to overcome in pickleball…. I’m in my early 70s and the young guys always drive at me,,,I can beat them at the net but the drives are hard on this old man…

Thanks! Main thing is keep the ball down and of course in. Last thing you want is to pop it up. If you can add a little force and depth to keep them back great, but if not just focus on taking the ball early and keeping it down.

Learn to let most of the drives from bangers go, they will be out balls.

I agree with that for sure, especially the ones on short returns that don't bounce high.

Calling people ‘bangers’ doesn’t make any sense. If you aren’t pounding the ball from time to time during a rally, you’re just simply not playing the sport the right way. Watch the pros!

For sure there is a time and place to hit the ball hard. There's also times when its not the best shot selection. It's a good idea to have the soft game and hard game in pickleball. It's very hard to win a rally from deep in the court against good players. A "banger" only hits the ball hard over and over. 3rd shot drive 5th shot drive 7th shot drive etc

This "sport" is a joke. Learn tennis if you are under 60 please.

Why get on a pickleball video and demean this sport? If you want to play tennis, go play tennis. There are lots of us under 60 that enjoy Pickleball. No amount of naysayers like you are going to change that. Do you really think that you'll convince anyone to go play tennis instead of this because you say so?

Tennis players, new to pickleball, have more confidence than ability. Former racquetball players and even former ping pong players generally become good pickleball players faster than most. Former tennis players are easy to beat until they realize banging from the baseline is a losing strategy.

I came from racquetball and mostly competitive table tennis and I completely agree with you.

It's funny you say that because most of the people I coach coming from tennis say they burn more calories playing pickleball. They are all under 60 and very good tennis players.
