Nerd isn’t kidding when he says moving in a single file line is a bad idea. It just makes the slowest person an easy target for predators. During the Great War, men were getting picked off regularly by packs of wolves on the Eastern Front. It got so bad that the Germans and Russians called a truce at one point just so they could exclusively hunt the wolves on their respective sides of the line. Wolves absolutely will drag you away and rip you apart if they perceive you as slow or weak.

No, no, see, it's like this: If any part of a gun is the slightest bit damaged in any way, the entire thing is utterly useless. Neeson throwing the gun away is completely realistic. As for leaving the plane, these are actually metal grey wolves, whose power grows in proximity to metal structures like plane wreckage. Making for the treeline makes perfect sense in this context, as trees are the ultimate weakness of metal grey wolves. As for having all the tools they could possibly need and not using them properly, well, that's obviously irrelevant because the wolf attacked them while they were still in the planning stage, thus rendering all resources completely pointless for the rest of time. Going through the woods in the dead of night while surrounded by potentially hundreds of wolves you can't see is just sheer badassery, and anyone who questions it is clearly not a real man. Burke was just too weak to survive, so they told him to "sleep", knowing he'd pass peacefully in the night. The "rope on a tree" plan is just stupid by any means, especially considering they could easily have simply jumped off the cliff, falling hundreds of feet into the water below, and been absolutely fine. The movie significantly suffers from this point on.

De-icing is only for the cockpit windows, engine inlets, spoilers and control surfaces. The passenger window do not effect the pilot's ability to fly the plane. So they don't have electrical resistance (which would take a heavy toll on the plane's generators or have the heavy plumbing if bleed air is used instead. The outer windows being in contact with the -40°C outside will make this very inefficient too which is why plane windows have a big gap in the first place between outside and inside. The same applies for outside fuselage and the inside of the cabin, the gap is insulation because air doesn't transfer heat as good as metal and will not add weight.

It would be like watching a movie about Liam Neeson against a pack of coyotes.
@cahan5577 ай бұрын
I mean wolves would also never attack humans unless they felt cornered, were protecting their young or were starving. Predators go after easy meals. If a predator gets hurt hunting, it might be unable to hunt again and starve so ideally they hunt prey which cannot hurt it back. Humans can easily seriously injure a wolf in a fight even if the wolf wins the fight. This is why many predators do not go after humans unless desperate or threatened.
@andylaw32227 ай бұрын
And rightfully so. Wolves aren't a threat to humans. Especially not these days with such a vast amount of knowledge about them. In addition to that, European wolves are rather small. Liam's character here has developed a spiritual philosophy around death as it is implied he is one who takes lives, it is also his duty to comfort them as they cross to the other side, hence the petting of the wolf and his comforting of the dying man. To be fair, there are stories through history of wolves getting a taste for humans and getting so ballsy they'll straight up run into major cities looking for a buffet. I remember reading a story once from the 15th century. A pack of man-eating wolves managed to get through the walls of Paris and terrorized the city for a whole winter, dozens of snacks slain. The pack was only killed when a mob of citizens worked together to lure the wolves to town center and surround them.

They did make a ton of stupid choices in this movie, but I think it was to get the characters to where they needed to be for the study this film gives us. It's a beautiful and harrowing look into the human will, and how tightly people will hold onto things theyll never have, achieve, or encounter again...and life itself. As well as finding purpose without divine edict or guidance, and finding it where there should rightfully be none to be found. It's a wonderful look into the human condition. And I think that's where the film shines.

I remember this movie because the trailer was misleading and when I saw it in the theater I was very displeased. The trailer made it seem like a cool survival type scenario (emphasis on survival) instead of a super depressing, plodding character drama. I wish we got that movie. I also wish they came up with a real reason why the survivors couldn't remain at the best spot of discovery, the plane.

Countless dead bodies for the wolves to feed on at the crash site. Nah I'd rather leave it all behind to chase the living guys miles away, down a cliff.
