Similar thing happened to me, I got him down to 40% health͎ on my first attempt, and then on my second attempt I got destroyed so fast. My last two attempts have been better, down to about half health but he still kills me. I just got the shackle and i’m about to reattempt this. Margit is a badass boss, he’s so fast and powerful

I died to him 3-4 times and realised I’ve to get stronger. I explored the world and killed a lot of optional bosses upgraded my stats, my uchigatana to +4 and got a new armor and the i killed him after 10-12 tries and then went on killing goldrick. I loved both the boss fights. This game is something else. Loving it so far.

Beat him in 2 tries but i went way out of my way and killed a sleeping dragon for 50,000 runes so i was able to level up a lot right at the beginnig of the game. And right by that dragon in fort fatosh or whatever its called i got a legendary talisman which raises most of your stats +5. Thats all made the beginning of the game pretty easy. Was close to beating him first try but i got careless and impatient.

Honestly a huge tip is just be patient. And dodge towards the boss. This is something I learned the hard way in the souls series. When you dodge foward instead of back you give yourself a big opening to attack instead of having to run towards them. Also on some attacks you can pretty much avoid because you can get behind them. Now you can dodge back too but dont make it a bad habit theres definitely a time for both.

When you make him falter, don’t use an critical/execute attack on him (unless you’re using a crit weapon, maybe). Just keep hitting him while he’s down instead. It does way more damage in the same amount of time

@@ryanhoover1981 I believe enemies have a hidden "stance" bar similar yo sekiro where if you use attacks that affect one's stance you can cause them to stagger. Jump heavy attacks and charged heavy attacks seem to be the best at it and the bigger the weapon the better it seems

As you said, Heavy attacks and jump heavy attacks are the best at this. However, I also tried hitting him with spells and he was also staggered, not sure if spells work the same too

10 hours in and I finally beat him, had my longsword at +2, the spirit wolves, and the flask that gave me more strength. I was so overwhelmed by the second phase that my mind just went blank but after a while I started keeping track of his move patterns and did a lot of dodging to the right side. Staggered him like 3 times and beat him with a few health flasks to spare. Definitely a great first boss as it forced me to legit have to run away to level up then come back and beat him.

Took me about 200 tries, no joke. Close combat. First phase is easy, just get up to him and circle around him to his left while you block all his hits all the time, he often does three hits, so after the third hit you can slash him a couple of times, then repeat. The second phase is harder, you will need to use the distance. If you get close to him on his second phase he will start to use a spinning combo with his stick and magic sword, if you get trapped in that you are instantly dead. The key is to keep the distance and roll to his left when he's doing a charging move with his stick, he will charge his stick and come at you with full speed and do a slash, you roll to his left and then keep circle around him when he's doing an additional move after the slash, that's when you can hit him a couple of times, and then you roll back to keep the distance. Repeat and he'll be dead. His hammer jumps are easy to avoid by rolling away on impact, and his jumps are often started with by shooting two magic daggers at you.

This guy was absolutely freaking BRUTAL, even with me and my step bros, all dark souls vets, 3v1ing him it took 10+ tries, then couldn't first try on the subsequent fights to get him done for everyone either lmao. Feel like we all leveled up in skill massively from this guy though and I found him exhilarating, not frustrating to fight and slowly learn more and more, not just with his moveset but my own, learning to utilize unique abilities in this game not present in previous soulsbornes like charge attacks and especially JUMP attacks which go over his myriad low sweep attacks and seem to stun him more often.

Yeah I wouldn’t advise fighting any boss with a heavy load. Unless you have high vigor, even then I’m not sure if it’s possible to tank the bosses in this game in the traditional sense.

He really reminds me of the Delver boss from The Surge 2, the first boss of that game to really force you to learn the parry mechanic. It was possible to defeat Delver without parrying, but the fight becomes close to trivial once you were able to consistently parry its attacks.

The thing is even though parrying is effective its still not foolproof due to margits unpredictability. It becomes a toss up on whether hes going to use his cane or whip out his sword and push your shit in.

Another little trick I found that helped me a lot was to stick to his right side, especially during the first phase. You can pretty much avoid getting hit by every one of his moves without dodging if you hug him. When he does the leap and slam attack during phase 1 (which usually follows the 2 daggers throw), run towards him and dodge so you'll end up behind him, giving you a windows for 2 strikes. If you end up in front of him at any time, try making your way to his right and not risking hitting him, he will usually manage to hit you with a fast dagger attack which is very hard to avoid.

I used his left. I circled around him up to his nose to his left and blocked his usual three hits and slashed him after his third hit, and then repeat to second phase. On second phase I had to use the distance because he has a deadly spinning combo. All you have to do is to roll away on his jumping hammer attacks, and wait for him to charge at you when he's doing a move where he is charging his stick behind is back, he will come at you full speed and do a slash, that's when you roll to his left to avoid the slash and keep circling to his left, he will do an additional spinning slash right after his first slash, that's when you can hit him a couple of time before rolling away from his hammer slash. The key here is to hit him when he's doing a move that takes 1 second more then usual for him to settle.

as an experienced player, but one with shitty stats i found that the fastest way to beat him was to brute force my way through learning to parry as many of his attacks as i could to deal huge damage when he's weakened. I'd say it took around 30 tries of me just standing there trying to get timing right. But that final run where i killed him was epic. just parried him at every turn and hardly took damage. I fucking love these games

This video helped me more to find patches than to beat Margit, I just needed some more levels because I tried beating him level 16

I’m using a paladin build, so I handled him by first summoning the wolves and then imbuing my scythe (that I got from the skeleton dudes) with holy damage. I also have the barricade ashes of war which works wonders with that gold shield you get from the first dudes you fight since it gives 100 block, plus barricade allows you to tank pretty much every single attack while guarding. Basically tanked and backed the dude in a corner, and beat on him while the wolves distracted him. Still took me a couple of tries, but perseverance prevailed. Rogier is a interesting strat but be wary, he essentially acts as another player so Margit will get stronger and take more hits since the game deals it as two players fighting. Don’t forget you can upgrade your summons from Roderika at the round table using plants you can obtain from caverns, this is how you get the jellyfish summon as well. Another useful summon are the skeleton dudes you can obtain by fighting the mariner at summonwater village (if I recall correctly that’s the name). These skeleton guys can respawn when they get taken down as long as they don’t get hit while they’re resurrecting.

Alternative tactic - there's a trap chest in the dragon burnt ruins east of the start that will teleport you to a mine in the far east. Sneak out of there (you're waaaaaaay too underleveled to fight anyone there) and upon leaving the cave, hang left and work your way down to the lake. There you will find a wolf guarding a dead body. After you kill or just run past the wolf you can pick up Rot Wolf Ashes off a nearby corpse. Teleport back to Limgrave and proceed as usual and then summon the Rot Wolf when you start the fight with Margit. It's just one wolf, but the wolf will apply a condition called scarlet rot to Margit after 4-5 hits. Once infected, he has no way to cure himself and will steadily die. All you have to do is avoid his attacks for ~1 minute and the rot can finish him without you landing a blow. Very easy win, but sort of unsporting so I wouldn't recommend it unless you get stuck.

This is the first souls like game I've played. Idk if I'm playing wrong but after he does a flurry of melee attacks (which are pretty difficult to dodge, especially the daggers) there is barely any time to get damage in. It just seems safer to wait for the charge or jump attacks which are easy to dodge and you get consistent damage.

That's a very viable strategy. If you find a move too punishing but have already found safer openings then just get far away when that move comes out.

You're playing it correctly. The best advice for souls games is that it's a marathon, not a race. Attack only when it's safe to attack, and ideally you should be able to survive almost indefinitely by blocking/dodging.

I think thats what is so rewarding at the end. To learn your enemies attack and using the openings, wich are more fitting to your playstyle by yourself. You don't have to follow the guide if it doesn't suit your playstyle

I learned his whole moveset in just a few hours and the only time I really got hit was when he started the whirlwind attack. Margit really didn't feel like that but maybe I've also gotten more confident in that time.

I just came from "Platinum'ing" Lies of P, my first soul-like game...I defeated this boss with my shield and axe, not leveled up or anything in less than an hour. After watching this video, I just realized how much more is there to explore in this game because this guy's character looks like a total badass and mine looks just the same way as I started the game with. Not being a linear game, I realized how much is up to me to discover cool stuff in this world. At first, I went around the castle and avoided this boss entirely so i could explore more but I am still trying to find my bearings with this game, it's my first From Software game, I am having a good time :)

The only thing thats hard at first is that his attacks are very late. Everytime he charges an attack it always takes a bit more than from every other enemie. Thats why he is so challenging. At first i was rolling away to soon and died. But when you wait for him to start swinging and then you dodge, its much easier to find an opening.

Out of all the noob-gate bosses in souls games Margit is absolutely BRUTAL. It took me something like five hours to beat him, and that was with a +3 weapon and the shackles.ER is more accessible in the sense that if you get stuck you can always explore and come back later, which wasn't always an option in previous titles, but to compensate they've definitely dialed up the difficulty in a lot of places. And I like it! I've beaten most of the other souls games, and I love a tough challenge. The emotional high I got when I finally beat Margit was insane. But a lot of people are going to be turned away by that difficulty, becuse of the simple fact that souls games are not for everyone. Not everyone has the time, the mindset, or the skill to finish them - a concequence of designing your game for quality, depth, and a satisfying challenge, rather than to suit the wants of corporations and focus-groups. And that's ok. People are different, and that's not a bad thing, just life.

if you use Margit's Shackle before traversing the mist it glitches the game out and causes him to stay still and not attack for the first phase of the fight.

This is how I did it. I suffered a while with Margit (was low level), so later decided to go grinding, so I got myself bloodhound sword and leveled up to 22. You need 17 dexterity and 18 strength to be able to wield that sword. Of course I used the wolf pack and the sourcerer. After all this, I defeated him in my first try. Maybe I used too much help, but this is my first souls game. Let me know how it went if anybody tries my strategy. Good luck fellow gamers!

I put rot grease on my Greatsword and inflicted Margit with scarlet rot. He still killed me but he also died from the scarlet rot buildup at the same time. Even in death, I was victorious.

On his first phase just get up to him and circle his left, and block his hits, he usually does three hits, then you can hit him 3 or 4 times after that, repeat. On his second phase use the distance, roll away on his hammer jumps, and the window for attack is when he' doing a charging move at you, he will put his stick behind is back and charge a slash, when he's running towards you, roll to his left to avoid the slash, then you circle around his left to avoid his additional slash after the first slash which is a fast spinning slash, after this spinning slash you can hit him 3-4 times before rolling away from his next move which often is a hammer slash.

I just beat it first try on a second playthrough and here's the secret: first, you should have chosen the Samurai class, easily one of the best in the game and it's specially useful with this boss because you need to be rolling a lot and you'll have to deal a ton of damage in the brief moments Margit stays put (usally after a combo of two or three attacks), then use the toxic Jellyfish spirit and summon the Sorcerer, and finally, when you break Margit's stance don't stab him, just keep spamming the attack button non-stop. You'll lower half his health bar and this will make the fight wayy more easier. Or at least it did it for me :)

I beat him today & am also Samurai. He kicked my ass a few days ago so I went & explored elsewhere, increasing my level & honing my skills. Went back today & killed him on 1st attempt. I used double katana & used all L1 attacks on him. Summoned jellyfish at stage 2. Went in with Roger. And used shackle item from Patches. Also gathered as many flask upgrades as poss. I had like 8 flasks lol

"Simply dodge his attacks" Don't use the word "simply" when talking about dodging in this game. The enemies attacks never stop and half the time, they keep going through the first roll and catch you before you can roll again. There's nothing simple about it.

Then, factor in that the enemies have both lightning fast attacks and ridiculously delayed attacks, and you never know which one it'll be. I can't even get away with spam rolling, because they catch me at the end of a roll and demolish me. Shit isn't "simple" by a long shot.

If u can’t beat Margit at lower level, u can’t even imagine how hard stormvail castle is about to be for you. Take this game slow because it is worth it. I’m a stubborn player and new to Souls games, so when I ran into Margit pretty much immediately after starting my first build (Vagabond), I kept fighting him until I won with my starter equipment. This is how I did it. Sorcerer Rogier sucks at fighting, and even though he wields ranged magic, he always runs right up to Margit, which leads to him dying fast. So one of my main goals was protecting Rogier, because the longer he stayed alive, the longer Margit was multi-tasking. I always tried to make sure Rogier was on one side of Margit and I was on the other. Every time Margit would turn his back to start attacking Rogier, I would start hitting him with R2 attacks. I did R2 attacks in order to try to get him to stumble, if you pay close attention to his move set, you’ll realize some of his powerful attacks lead to him catching his breath which gives you a good chance to land at least 2 R2s. If you get him to break his stance, then you can hit him with a critical hit. On the play through I won, I was able to break his stance/critical hit him 3 times before Rogier was finally killed, and Margit was down to quarter health . At that point, since you’re his sole focus,you don’t have time to do R2’s anymore, so just slowly chip away the last quarter of health with R1. Just be patient, trying to dodge his quick attacks. The best chance to attack him is when you get him to do his jump/smash with hammer attack. If you dodge towards him at the right time, you won’t be hurt and will get a chance to land a few hits before rolling away.

beat him as melee samurai. Lone Wolf Spirits helped a lot, of course they all die when he's 1/4 HP you just gotta finish him off. Some exalted flesh too will help too even though I whiffed both my chances with it, still beat him though on the next try (just barely). also disabled the crouch button and right hand armament in the controls, idk about anyone else but i crouch when im not trying to and its annoying asf, same thing with the right hand. raged quite a bit cause of that but disabling it helped.

I tried to get in hits on him but I was accidently crouching, because joystick annoying asf So I dealt half the damage I could've dealt, and then he just janked me away with his tail. Didn't really struggle with right hand though, the only control i struggle with is trying to get my weapons in 2 handed stance, pressing two combinations of buttons that barely respond. I was switching weapons alot during this to see what worked best

Another funny fact is that on the right side of the road that leads to margit, there's a path u can use to skip the castle entirely and move on ahead in the north.

On PS5 there is actually big input delay when executing a roll. On a dex build the animation feels quite bad compared to their other games. That should’ve been obvious in their QA process..

This is my first souls game all the other boss fights seem so well crafted so far Like the tree sentinel for example I loved fighting him But Margit feels so terribly designed he has wide sweeping attacks and does lightning fast with several mix-up delays And there are some attack chains where he does we're all Dodge one of the hits only to get hit by the next three because they're too fast And before you say my equipment load is too high I am in my underwear for my last attempt so it literally can't be that

Well come to a from software game.. From always varies the timing to f*** with your mind so dont get stuck on patterns instead look for tells.. You can practice with enemies on your way to the boss

I like this boss but what you said is absolutely right. Margit is way, way too erratic for the first story boss. He also has an attack where he swings his sword twice and then pounds with his staff, which to my knowledge is impossible to dodge.

Hes actually an extremely well designed boss coming from someone who has beat all the games I have to say this is easily their best starting boss they have ever made. He truly teaches you how to play the game and has moves where you have to read into and not just dodge spam and he gives you plenty of openings to hit compared to later bosses in the story. I beat him my second try so he really was simple but necessary for new incoming players because bosses later are much more punishing aswell.
