In Romania(at least the region where my family comes from) rose thorns are actually used to ward off strigoi(OG vampires). So that's probably where the movie got the rose idea from, cool detail :)

This is a bit off topic, but a number of historians believe Elizabeth Bathory was not a murderer and there's significant evidence toward that conclusion. What she did was bring in sick people, especially girls, to her castle, making it a hospital. However illness + medicine in that time = a lot of dead people. This wouldn't have been a problem, except she was an extremely powerful person, politically speaking, and a widow who refused to remarry. To give you an example of how much sway she had, reportedly she was owed a significant debt by the king of Hungary at the time. As such, there were a lot of nobles who wanted her out of the picture, so they took advantage of the people dying in her castle(who were, y'know, sick peasants she was trying to care for) and whipped up those accusations and stories to destroy her. And remember that debt from the king I mentioned? Well, obviously you don't need to pay a debt to a virgin-killing blood-bathing monster, so there was vested interest in declaring her guilty.

Its a nice thinking. But I do believe it happened. Theres plenty of evidence, who shows her guilt. its the same with Dracula and Darja N. Saltykowa (who was even worser the Barthory.) I have three books with testemonies about the most gruesome murders around Europe. I just think they want her to be innocent bc shes a woman. And women cant be that cruel. Besides BECAUSE she was a woman, she didnt face the death penality, but rotted in a chamber and then dying in her bed. Others in the book, who did horrible thing , but werent nobles, had very cruel penalities. Anyhow, like in the Darja N. S. case, there were testemonies and people who not only helped her, but tortured with her. Both were sadistic women who thought that their privilege sheltered them from punishment. And in the case of Dracula, he became even a hero in Romania, bc he saved them from the muslims. I do have no doubt she was a spoild woman, and (alot of women have the same thoughts) bc she feared aging she went nuts, like Darja....

It's a very interesting story! I've been to the castle where she was imprisoned many times, it's fascinating! The thing about discovering the truth of her life is that it's very very hard to distinguish truthful accounts of her actions, local myth and folklore, and smears by political rivals or, as we'd say today, haters. I don't believe sensational claims of vampirism or ritual abuse, but I do believe she was a murderer and am not convinced by the hospital/infirmary hypothesis.

This is one of those horror movies that sticks with you. I will likely always remember this movie. I saw it once a long time ago when I was a kid, and rewatched it a few years ago. One hell of a movie with a unique enough concept to where you'll think of this movie occasionally.

I'm a Resident Evil fan and I came across Elizabeth Bathory while searching up Lady D. She was a noble and was said to kill maidens and bathe in their blood to remain young forever. Nice touch.

Yeah allegedly she's one of the most prolific killers in human history, over 1500 victims. Horrifying if true but at the time she was a really powerful woman who many other nobles wanted gone so I'd take everything with a grain of salt. Still makes for a very cool story/legend.

People who are confused as to why when they killed the Main Ghost They kept getting hurt. The Ghost in the game was just a player so to speak just like the group, the game itself is the demonic spirit, the ghost in the game is sort of like a puppet just being used to lure people in as the 'main challenge' when it's the actual game that's a ghost/demon.

Those pictures in the lineup at 1:19 were surprisingly clear and crisp and bright. If you zoomed in you could tell every person's eye colour. I just found it fascinating cause I generally have a hard time spotting people's eye colours but they stuck out so much in those pics.

Elizabeth Bathory,while she was probably abusive to staff and the people, she was no worse than a lot of other nobles of the time. A lot of what we know about her evil deeds was obtained through horrific forms of torture ordered by the King who had every reason to have her out of the way so he wouldn’t have to pay off his debts to her.

This movie made me so happy on release because it name-dropped Silent Hill (a whole month before the SH film was released, back when it was very niche in the west in particular). They mention that you beat the final boss of SH4 by ammo dumping before the fight and then using the hyper blaster on it. It's completely wrong, you have to collect 7 spears around the arena and use them in a specific way to make the boss vulnerable . But the thing is, the gibberish shows they know the Silent Hill games. In SH1 a strategy in the final boss involves ammo dumping to instantly win, and there's an item in SH1 called the hyper blaster which requires a previous UFO ending save (or a plug-in light gun) to unlock. The hyper blaster is an unlockable, so it isn't something you'd know about just from casually playing the game one time. Back then we didn't have massive wikis, just forums and gameFAQs so you couldn't just google things and get easy and decisive answers, especially since it was the Team Silent era and they deliberately stayed pretty mum even in Japanese, but because they weren't fluent in English it was very hard to find behind-the-scenes info. Generally the best you could hope for were fan translations, although there were a few exceptions. Even inside the community people didn't know all the easter eggs or tricks or how to unlock everything, and something like the SH1 ammo dumping strategy was something you needed to be a pretty big fan of at least the first game to know. I still remember people debating how exactly you trigger the katana unlock in SH1 in 2004. That's because it's not something that is easy and logical to decipher: basically you need to have two finished game files on one memory card with one save that has the good or good + ending and then one that's either bad or bad +. It took the community years working together to fully understand how it unlocked. It was a small community, so it took much longer than it would have in a big community like Resident Evil had at the time. Considering the movie was in production before the SH movie, and that they knew those little somewhat obscure details of the games in a time where they weren't super easy to find means someone working on this thing knew and loved the series. I firmly believe that the reason they gave a gibberish answer that was nothing but an easter egg for SH fans instead of the correct strategy is that SH4 was the most recent release in the series at the time and they didn't want to spoil the actual final boss by giving away the strategy. Very cool of them, definitely earned my eternal love for this dumb film.

Its super goofy and it confuses everyone ive shown it too but i love it so much

This video is really confusing as it acknowledges the game cheats and can kill you even if you aren't playing, yet it repeatedly suggests the players should have destroyed the disc after they had already started playing. In all likelihood, doing that would have got them all killed. Not turning the game back on would be one thing as you could then wait and see what happens, but flat-out breaking the game could destroy your only chance of surviving. It's a terrible idea.

They already tried that, the guy who was run over hadn't died in the game yet but elizabeth was able to turn the game back on, kill him within it, then come for him in real life. In reality, once you've started playing it, you're just screwed.

you know there would be other benefits to there being more players? more people to share strategies with, being able to have more people in a active party could even prevent deaths. (not all of them clearly) people sharing info on what items or builds could be best if its that kind of game. probably even people who would stay back a bit and just be support even. as well as just to many targets for the ghost in the game.

First of all how did squeek survive, even though he died in the game? I know he was in a bed of roses but couldn’t the ghost have gotten him when he got out of them? Second of all since the ghost has already been defeated wouldnt the game no longer be haunted?

For the first part. Maybe she couldn't completely kill him because there was a buffer period between the characters death and their own. And since she was distracted by the others squeek could have survived. As for the second there something you have to think about. Who made the game. I don't think Elizabeth was able to learn highly skilled coding skills in he sealed up tower that didn't look like it had access to a computer ot electricity. It's possible someone made the game for her. And if so. Mabey created a copy of the ghost soul. So it might not be the real ghost but an echo mabye? That's the part I wondered as well. What do you think how to beat?

He did state that she used the game in order to take revenge. If that's the case she could technically exist in every single copy that has a form of code in it, regardless of if the "original host" is dead or not.

He survived because of the rose bush he dove into in the real world. In the game there was no rose bush but because in real life she couldn't cross the bush, the game had to declare him deceased by default. The other part is I'm assuming by the time the actual game is released as it wasn't released right away, it becomes just a regular game where she can't get you in real life. Also the prayer is already being recited by the previous players so there's no summoning by reading the prayer.
