This is great! Just started out about 3 months ago. I'm 6'4" and have a guy in my class who's roughly the same height but way more muscular that's generally my partner. He tends to stiff arm and will occasionally drop his hips so I'm always looking for good counters. I'll be trying some of these out! Thank you!

Awesome, I am not much a sode guy and my small hands makes hard sometimes to grip the sleeve but the side movement is pretty cool, force sode doesn´t work with those ultra rigid guys.

One hand on the elbow one hand on the wrist, your gonna overpower him, though it would give up control of his other arm. A much safer alternative for push his hand against your chest and push the elbow in. Works just like a knee buckle at that point (caving knee from back with a gentle nudge). Should always work in same weight class, but not gonna guarantee overpowering someone above your weight class. the first methood should work fighting up 30 to 50lb, but its insanely risky.

Good day, Sensei! I have seen a lot of your videos and you helped me a lot. But still, I do find trouble with guys heavier than me. I mean, I am able to deal with guys my weight but taller than me(theres a variety of things I could, however I must take care of leg sweeps though). But if the guy is heavier, I do fine some trouble. Can you make a video involving few tricks for that?

I realize this is Judo training, but stiff arm or not, there are some great Jujitsu, and Aikido techniques to combat these types of lapel grabs. (Ikkyo, sankyo, ect.) Still love these videos, and thanks for sharing.

do these work when the opponent is dropping their hips as well? I find a lot of folks stiff arm me out and drop their weight at the same time, making it hard to find any entry in at all.
@Shigashi845 жыл бұрын
This standing sode wouldnt work when the opponent has dropped their hips. You can do a drop sode. But more so than that, i would do different set ups. Will post a hips back tutorial for you. A lot of people have been asking for it.

I would do a ko-uchi-gari so i break their ballance so they would stand up a little bit to bring ballance back and i would do o-soto-gari for example
@JudoP_slinging3 жыл бұрын
If they shove their hips out backwards you can get high collar grip and crush their posture forwards, usually they will try to stand up which gives a nice entry for uchimata etc. Otherwise you can sometimes drag them into newaza or get easy over the back grips for sumi-gaeshi etc. In contest they will get penalised for very defensive play also. If they are simply dropping their hips then attack rearwards with ouchi or kouchi, this is why these throws combine so well with forwards hip throws.

Sensei Higashi, can you do a video on finishing sode? It's one of the throws I have difficulty finishing, as my power hand isn't directing the throw anymore.

Pull the dominant right arm toward you -as in a jerking motion- with your left hand, then push while stepping in deep with your left foot. Adjust your right foot too. Look up Abe Hifumi's sode's versus left handed opponents!
