Is this not more about beating a set play as opposed to beating a vertical? This is a static setup so arguably it's playing the more poachy defence that disrupts the set-play, not a typical vert stack. Something more organic from Iceni, with more intelligent cutting from downfield might have posed more of an issue for Shout's defence. Would love to see more examples, though. Fair play.

They have more examples on the KZbin channel. Check out the u24 Belgium v Canada video for several examples of Belgium absolutely shutting down every Canadian cutter for 10s. Another vid on the channel covers how to do this in general and they do explain that yea it's not going to hold for the whole point. It's something you set up generally from a dead disc. Your point about set plays is technically not right though since this works fine on a turnover not just a pull. Don't scrap it though just because it isn't going to hold after initiations. It is a great tool to use to generate turnover as well as stop pull plays like the one shown. Just go watch that u24 analysis video!

Vert stack is sort of defined by the feature that players return to the stack to be inactive, which allows you to surround the stack multiple times in any passage of play. Sure, you will rarely have 5 players in the stack, but you can surround the stack as long as there are at least 2 people in it.

Hmm, so essentially you can set up a junky zone-like formation (i.e. clam defense) to clog lanes and up the stall count 🤔 What am I missing here that is different?
