I applied for German citizenship last year with non-EU background. Throughout the process, I met dozens of Brits waiting in the queue for interviews or simply attending naturalization ceremony, which was strange because I never knew there are so many Brits around in my district. In fact, It was mentioned during the ceremony that apart from Turkish immigrants, UK citizens were the second largest applicant group during last year and it was insane. Unlike EU citizen in UK, we all paid just 255 euros for the whole process and you need not to either obtain a PR or to have ample unnecessary proofs that you lived in Germany. Your tax returns and a CV speak a lot! Process is straight forward and I did not pay for any appointments to submit applications or for interviews. The only hidden cost is for translations and citizenship test which costs just 25 euros, application forms are for free and there is no federal process involved. By the way, ceremony was for free and they served us dinner along with best of the local wines, beers and local high-school band music.

Countries have noticed how the mighty USA has fallen and now you have to prove your worth in order to become a citizen of other countries. If you sell drugs, traffick children, are a criminal, murderer, rapist, etc. Biden gives you an open invitation. You have to hate police, hate the USA, promise to vote Democrat and prove you hate American citizens. Then you get your free medicare papers. Just walk right in, no test or shots needed. Bring in diseases.

Amazing. I applied for French residency and it was a couple of simple proofs of 5yrs residence, my passport and tax number. All online. I received instant temporary residency, an appointment in 6 weeks (including Xmas and New Year so 4 weeks really). I was welcomed, gave my fingerprints, was congratulated and wished well. I got my residency card inside a couple of weeks. Citizenship however is much harder and expensive requiring lots of documents, professionally translated, an intense interview and perhaps two or three years of waiting. I've settled for simple residency.

My uncle made that mistake, he went to England just cuz he wanted to and he couldn't leave and now he's stuck there with no job cuz it's hard to get a job without being a citizen. So I'm sure someone has to have a good reason like a skill set such as football or go there for school (specifically University)

There is a specific fiancé visa which you can apply for. When this is granted it comes with conditions pre marriage. After marriage a different visa is applied for in respect of the “ spouse “.This route is the most usual. If the relationship breaks down at any point in the process then it’s not impossible for the fiancé to remain in the uk but in the majority of cases the reason to be in the uk no longer exists and the fiancé has to leave.

One of my grandparents was born in the UK, which in itself does not enable me to apply for British citizenship. But - there is a window in the eligibility rules that has to do with the date of my (non-British) parents' marriage, which might allow me to apply. I already have Irish citizenship, though. So there is no point in becoming British. The terms of the Irish/UK Common Travel Arrangement, which long predates the EU, extend full residency rights to citizens of either country.

To aquire British citizenship is a long way and documents process is difficult.Appointment to get docs scanned and checked many people complained about ( Croydon centre ) they have been treated badly ,paid extra money for extra services were not worth paying for and some were shouted at by staff members and pushed around. This government body was possibly set to be as difficult to work with and fail you while charging £1350. I am applying now and already have been badly treated when attending Life in UK exam in Croydon. A staff member shouted at me and went bananas when I moved the chair I was supposed to be sitting on when taking picture of mine.( Person asked me to sit but never mentioned that chair must not be moved).Terrible.

The thing is, citizenship is not the same as legal status. You can be legally resident somewhere without being a citizen. In fact, in most countries, if not all, having been legally resident for a certain amount of years is one of the requirements for naturalisation (i.e. getting citizenship after coming in as an immigrant). It is definitely important to be legally resident, but becoming a citizen isn't necessary, although it is advisable, since immigration policies could always change and might put you at risk of having to leave.

I completely ignored it, as I do know the UK does not involve the same massive levels of bureocracy than Italy (reason I am not in Italy) and I took the risk of proving this video wrong by submitting the minimum amount of documents. Very important note: I had my EU Settled status, I also worked for the last 5 years paid taxes every single month and my bills For Citizenship I submitted a total of 14 documents, ALL ONLINE papers, extremely easy all of it... that bureocracy she is so found of complaining about the UK was not there Get the English Exam, Citizenship Exam then you open request to UKVI, paying the 1000+£, then I submitted (5 last years), some appointment for free at UKVCAS and done, got the appointment ceremony last month, documents I submitted: 1. @Stephen Peel If you're a British citizen already living in the EU, you get to continue living in the member state in question, though the arrangements differ from state to state. That said, if you wanted to continue having freedom of movement, you shouldn't have voted for Brexit! There's no point in complaining about a change that you voted for!

@Brit She moved here, presumably because it's more in line with her beliefs than her home country was. I'm sure that, if there were a country even more in line with her beliefs than the UK is, she'd move there. I think that she's already followed your advice.

Well, if you plan to stay indefinitely, it's usually a good idea to become a citizen. Immigration policies could change, and might threaten your ability to stay. Citizenship is the only way to really ensure that doesn't happen. Besides, it's not like she has to give up her Italian citizenship, as both the UK and Italy allow dual citizenship.

Become a British citizen?????? Because of Brexit, that is no longer possible for other European peoples. UK closed the borders for non British people, even for European neighbours like people from The Netherlands, Belgium and France. But if it still would be possible, why would you want to become a British citizen and live in the UK with the failing Brexit, the failing British economy, unemployment, lower wages, pension funds dying out and a worse getting medical system????? And when you are already a British citizen, and live outside Britain, you will be forced to return to that cold and wet island............... But you still have to drive at the wrong side of the road. Nope.....I voluntarily avoid becoming a British citizen, hahahahaha
