I said "constitution" and I meant "constituency" no, that was not a joke, just a slip of the tongue. "the problem with jokes is you never know when the English are joking. You just never know whether they're being serious or not" - How very true, Luke. I remember there was an absolutely lucky chance to be visitor to the House of Parliament in London. Somehow the other visitors did not guess it was possible to enter the House of Lords as well as the House of Commons, but that is not the point. The point is when quite late in the evening were at last leaving, overwhelmed with impressions/what we saw/heard/learned... when we were literally near the exit we saw a spacious area on the right, virtually empty... and it was pretty late... yet we dared to ask the security guy what that was. He politely answered it was nothing important. May we walk over there? - Yah, go ahead! ... It turned out to be THE MOST legendary, the oldest hall in the House of Parliament... I was kind of angry at that guy!! If we believed him, THE OFFICER, we would have missed such extraordinary site! Look, what even has just had place there! Oh, that British humour...

Hi! I got 18 out of 24. Not bad, right? ;) Incidentally, I'd like to mention that I was somewhat surprised at the comment your colleague made a couple of times during the episode, on the UK not being a very democratic nation because of the House of Lords. It shocked me precisely because as far as I know, it was the Brits who put an end to their absolute monarchy back in the 13th century upon signing the Magna Carta. This makes GB one of the oldest parliamentary monarchies in the world. Some may argue that it has flaws. Sure it does, but considerably less than other countries which claim to be democracies but are run by presidents who are dictators in disguise. Cheers. PS: I enjoy your podcast very much.

Actually, i thought it was quite funny. Don’t take this the wrong way, but You like his sense of humor unless of course you feel targeted.;) I will quote a British philsophe, it seems appropriate for the situation: "I think one of the troubles of the world has been the habit of dogmatically believing in something or orther" Bertrand Russell.
@dobrochnakonieczna7200
@dobrochnakonieczna7200 Жыл бұрын
@@pierre5307 You may be right. I probably wouldn't have reacted if I hadn't been "targeted". If the spread of some lethal disease had been compared to Buddhism I may not have had this need, although I would still feel uncomfortable and sorry for the people "targeted" or "addressed" (I now know it wasn't Luke's intention). I'm not a philosopher, so I won't cite Thomas Aquinas or any other Christian philosopher who argued that reasoning and faith are derived from God, but I don't think quoting any atheist, socialist or liberal philosophers would help in this case. Also, I don't want the discussion snowball, so let's finish it at this point. We apparently have different backgrounds, hence we understand joking (which is a part of our cultures) differently. I just don't like the idea of self-devotion and pure love being juxtaposed with something that harmed so many people around the world.

Her ignorance is appauling to say the least. The questions dealing with the Tower of London and Wales are within the basic knowledge of any normal pre- school kid. Shame shame shame... An F for the humble effort... The Northern Ireland Assembly question has shown beyond any reasonable doubt that she indeed wasted a good half of her life in the UK just doing things of purely personal matter without giving a thought to what was going on in the rest of the nation let alone in the rest of the world. İ don't have the slightest doubt either that she feels she has every reason of being proud of herself - her own special way. Good Lord be merciful on her...
