So based on the requirements, a Cloud Engineer needs to be a developer, a devops engineer, a networking engineer and a system administrator all in one, and on top of that to study for at least 2-3 certifications from either AWS/Azure/GCP and know the info there by heart? This does not seem very realistic, it's hard to work towards even one of these things. Speaking as a developer myself here.

I would suggest for step 6 learn first AWS, second Azure and third GCP. AWS is focused in granularity it would be easier learn azure which is focused on be better than aws and gcp is focused on all in one solutions. I think this order will help you to understand the business, services and how solve customer's challenges.

My company is a windows shop and we use Azure. I would say if your company uses Azure, learn Azure. Else use AWS or GCP.

@@arsi112 As usual, it depends. Get the fundamentals and with the aws certifications should be enought. I decided to go for azure, because in my company we use azure... but switching to an other clould provider, should not be an issue, since the concepts applys to every clould. If you follow this steps in the video, you are on the good way.

Good point. Fundamentals are very much key. I've been in IT for over 20yrs, since the days of Netware, before MS AD killed them off. While cloud is cool and all that, you absolutely need a good fundamental background. And it really helps if you have hands on experience....it comes a bit easier for those of us who have worked in VMware and HyperV...since it's basically private onsite cloud in its early days. LOL

Yes i would say 80% of Cloud Engineers are comming from Sysadmin roles. Really a Cloud Engineer is the same thing as a Systems Engineer just as a Cloud Administrator is the same thing as a Systems Administrator. The only difference is you are deploying administering, and maintaining a Cloud Infrastructure opposed to an On-Prem infrastructure.

If you don't have a passion for coding, unfortunately anything related Cloud, Network or Systems Administration is not for you. I had a a Co-worker that gotten his degree in Networking and wants to move up as a Network admin. I told him, that Networking is becoming more automated using DevOps automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef. You are going to have to know at last Python. He said he hates programming. Well if he hates programming, he will never succeed in the Networking field because it's an essential skill set to have these days. Sysadmins also use Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet etc.
