It’s funny to come back to this memory of a video after commenting almost 3 years ago. Now, 16yo, employed as a ranch hand/cowboy in Northern California. Best advice I can give is learn, learn, learn. Develop skills and try new things. Learn to work wood, learn mechanical repair, weld, etc. There’s always work that needs to be done on property, and you’re going to find a ranch looking for hands if you’re in the right places. Couldn’t be happier with it. A lot of people fantasize about living a cowboy lifestyle, but very few live it. Go after it, have fun, and best of luck.

I learn allot about welding metal and wood work, trust me you will need those skills as a ranch hand. So if i should give advice to people that are going into the ranching path. Its not a easy path, its hard but its allot of fun, you get to see allot of new things. It really is a experience. Once you know the basic work you need to do and the basic problems you need to solve, its smooth sailing from there. Not allot of people do ranching because its really hard work so if you are like me, you are one of the few people that are still willing to work hard, so well done and goodluck

A friend of mine was a cowboy on a large ranch that I won't name because of what follows. He said the modern cowboys are boy and girls from Germany, Australia and other countries that come to Canada to live the dream. They buy expensive gear, are sociable, or not, and do it for a varying length of time. He told me about gruesome situations, like him and his team leader, leading back home a group of heifers that had strayed in the hills. While crossing a marsh, the heifers broke through the ice and were in water up to their necks. The two had to come up with a solution, so the lead cowboy cut their throats.

What Language does the word 'Boi' "Boy" stand for, mean? Perhaps literally Boy's would tend Cows. It should be Cow Man or Mans of Cows. But as a Term yes keep as Cow Boy. Up to You.

Ya I'd say herdsman or cattleman is what you're looking for but cowboy doesn't bother me a bit

I don't know were your from but in Oklahoma and Texas your job as a cowboy mainly is riding horses training horses and working cattle and cowboys always lives on the ranch with all expenses paid except for food and your hat shows you aint to big into cowboy life otherwise you'd have a west Texas wide brim and a good brand and you don't know anything bout ranch life and most rodeo cowboys are more cowboy then you and if you got something to say or talk about my insta is @realcowboy22 and im in that "few" cowboys

It's a dying heritage everywhere and it is sad, but truth is the open range is out west. The real American Cowboy originated in the southwest with influence from the Mexican Caballeros, Charros, and Vaqueros. To say it it isn't in my blood is an ignorant assumption. My family received their first property in 1831 in Oklahoma and we raised cows. I know exactly what I'm talking about and I rest my case.

There's a Difference between Cowboy and a Ranch hand. History is important good or bad. Remember Cowboy is a racist term regarding to people of color tending to cows, ranch hand or farm hand. A Ranch hand was normally referred to white people wrkn on a farm or ranch. I'm Proud to be a Cowboy following History serving my community where ever I choose to live. Why don't we just call each other Farmers an not Sound Racist

The way you describe a cowboy sounds like they are ronin.
@anthonylambert1225 Жыл бұрын
“In feudal Japan, a ronin was a warrior, a samurai without a master, who travelled the country offering his service to anyone in need of a sword to hire. But unlike the lonesome cowboy or gunman in Western movies, the ronin in Japanese culture has always had a tragic dimension, a sense of failure.” Seems the correlation isn’t far fetched

Sheep shearing is hella a lot harder then branding, even harder than braking horses, yet don’t see them cowboys helping with shearing, most time I do it solo, even when I do get help, it’s the women..... My family run some cattle but I don’t help, I do take care of the ones that get neglected, one got shot by a shot gun and tore the arm off, one was mauled by coyotes or dogs and one was rammed by a truck and hip bone was dislodged. Not saying I hate cowboys but they get too much praise sometimes I think, that’s what I noticed now these days everyone’s getting rid of their sheep and sticking to cows thinking it’s easier yet a lot of cows are neglected. I use to cowboy I guess or cow ranch whatever it’s called but it felt too arocratic I’m still a rural dweller but I just f around still trying to find my .......purpose. Even though I mess around I noticed I been making more money more then if I were to “ranch”. My family keep hiring people I don’t like that’s why I stopped working at the......ranch I guess. I Butcher for the cooks that cook at Brandings but I stop helping with the branding or the cooking. Cooks are under appreciated where I come from. Other then that I just blacksmith, silversmith, braid and weave. Just keeping on, keeping on.
@anthonylambert12253 жыл бұрын
Brandings are more of a party, whereas sheering is a chore... I don't think the two can be compared, but I'm sorry the husbandry you witnessed was not proper.... a true cowboy looks after his own

Yeah there is a difference. The original cowboy was black and back then the white men were called cowhands . Not boys.

Not too sure about that.... the names of everything were actually very regional and sometimes job specific.... buckaroo, rosin-jaw, bore runner, cattleman, Caballero, herdsman etc. the list really goes on.....
