Great info Sal. I thought about doing destination weddings, but honestly didn't know where to start. Your tips and advice makes total sense. I have over 8000 Followers on Instagram and that used to book me a lot of weddings, until the virus hit. (I used to have over 10K, but not posting since COVID, I lost about 2000 followers). I am not sure if IG would help for destination weddings. Perhaps? I really like doing those artistic and unusual perspective shots (with a very lite and fun style) that many photographers don't seem to do much, but what's lacking would be the location images if I were to pursue destination photography. I wouldn't even mind second shooting to learn the ropes, but I am going to give this some serious thought. Thanks for the tips!....Always, a pleasure... Philip NYC Area
@SalCincotta12 жыл бұрын
i think it would definitely help - its about being active and consistent. thats the hard part sometimes. but keep in mind - instagram is moving more towards reels - so for us still photographers that creates issues for sure - we have to adapt. which is easier said than done.
@johngrimanis47572 жыл бұрын
i'm sure you'll cover "work permits, local work rules etc" in the a future video- also licensing and location permits - I know for instance that in some countries you cannot photograph for profit national monuments, etc without permission and possibly paying a fee. Where do you obtain the pre-trip information for those situations? Otherwise- well presented thank you.

Hey Sal a couple a questions. I’m seeing this video a whole year later 🤦🏾♂️. 1. How do you travel with your equipment like light stands. I have a huge fear of them get lost 😡 or broken 😡 2. When you go to a hotel where do you leave your equipment. Hotel rooms gets broken into 🤦🏾♂️ 3. What is good equipment insurance I should have if any of questions 1&2 happens? Lol 4. If for some reason your flight gets delayed or canceled due to the airline’s cancellation that seems to be happening more often since the pandemic. What do you do for the clients?
@SalCincotta1 Жыл бұрын
hey mike - all your questions are valid, but at the same time paralyzing... know what i mean? gear can be broken or stolen from your own house or studio. :) knock on wood - in my 16 years of traveling ive never had someone steal anything from my room... we never allow room service in and put signs on the door and let the front desk know. gear lost or stolen... i mean... it can happen of course, but ive never had anything lost. to that point - i also dont check my camera equipment. its all carry on. light stands... sure... who cares. they are sub $100. not a big deal either way. for insurnace... work with your business insurance or home owners policy - which is what we do. for delayed flights... travel with more than enough time to allow for this. i shot a wedding in spain just before the pandemic... i arrived 2 days early. i shot a wedding in new york a few weeks ago and arrived 2 days earlier. this is how you allow for the unexpected. :) HTH

Hey Sal, How do you go about finding out the what if any requirements there are to secure an iconic location before arriving on location?
@SalCincotta12 жыл бұрын
great question! honestly... the best tool i have found is google. not being a smart a$$ - we will google things like rome photography permits, or nyc photography permits, or grand central station photography permits... and you would be shocked at what comes back... usually someone else has gone through the pain already... and then follow it down the rabbit hole. :)

In your opinion what qualifies as a destination wedding? Number of hours you must drive to get there? Anything out of your hometown? You're in St Louis. If you go to Chicago for a wedding, do you consider it a destination wedding? Love the video BTW!
@SalCincotta12 жыл бұрын
To me anything outside my local area I would consider a destination wedding. So call it… 1 or more hours away. Chicago I would consider a destination at 4hrs.

Great video Sal as always! Do you find many American couples getting married in Europe. How would you target them? I am based in UK and my style is very American with OCF so not the usual European Light and Airy for destination weddings and I find it is more appealing for couples from the states but struggling to find them.
@SalCincotta12 жыл бұрын
ty sir. yes... most of my couples are from the states traveling abroad. BUT the reason is my location is not a destination. in your case, you are THE DESTINATION - so i would change my marketing to appeal to people getting married overseas... its beyond the scope of this convo, but yes - you have to find a way to target people traveling to your location to get married - i would be doing FB marketing and SEO the crap out of my website so when they google from the states - you come up!! how do you navigate the legality and permits of international shoots?
@SalCincotta1 Жыл бұрын
i have never had to have a permit to work internationally. so unless there are local requirements that are legally enforceable... not sure.
@franciscafigueroa5863 Жыл бұрын
@@SalCincotta1 It is technically illegal to do work on foreign soil. This could get you banned from entering the country again if they find out or decide to investigate you.
@SalCincotta1 Жыл бұрын
@@franciscafigueroa5863 im gonna roll the dice on this one my friend. if a client hires me in the US and i fly over to shoot their wedding... the law is a bit vague... if im being hired by a US couple, paid in USD to a US bank, and doing a bulk of my work and meetings in the US... thats going to be tough for any country to enforce. could you need a permit for a location? of course, and for that we get permits when needed. Ive been working internationally for 15 years and never once been an issue. and if we are being honest... some of these countries... their processes are near impossible to navigate. imo.
