The road to MD is a long and confusing one. I finally understood it when I was in my graduating year of med school. So I thought I'd make a crash course video on how you can become a specialized doctor in the Philippines.

So to Summarize STEP 1: Pre-Med (3-5 years) STEP 2: National Medical Admission Test STEP 3: Med-school (4-7 years) STEP 4: Internship (1 year) STEP 5: Physician Licensure Exam After all these steps, you are now finally an official doctor. But if you want to be considered a "specialty doctor", you can continue and go to the next step. STEP 6: Residency (3-7 years) - Dermatology - Pediatrics - Internal Medicine - Neurosurgery - Etc. After graduating from residency and passing the specialty board exam you are now considered a specialty doctor. But if you want to further specialize into a specific fuel into your specialization, you can opt for a fellowship program. STEP 7: Fellowship Program (few months to years) - Developmental Pediatrician - Endovascular Surgeon - Thoracic and Cardiovascualar Surgeon - Pediatric Surgeon - OB Sonologist - Pulmonologist - Cardiologist - Pediatric Ophtalmologist - Geriatrican - Etc. After you graduate from your fellowship program, you are now finally considered as "consultant". Afterwards, you will now be the expert in your field.

becoming a doctor is really hard! passing the licensure exam was extremely hard!! but it was all worth it.. let me give you an advice though, you don't have to be the brightest and the most intelligent person in the world to get into medical school.. yes, you need to be very knowledgeable in the field of medicine but you get it by WORKING and STUDYING hard.. some med students are smart but are lazy and do not manage their time well in studying, so they end up failing.. the person who successfully finishes medical school are those who are passionately studying and working really hard.. if you dream of becoming a doctor, IT IS POSSIBLE! The process is not easy though because it is full of blood, sweat, and tears! It is all part of the journey, but passing the licensure exam makes it worth it all! It is not a battle of the smartest, it is beautiful journey for the passionate!

if it is your desire and dream to become a Doctor, don't let your non-medical college degree hinder that dream! I am currently a pediatric resident here in Bacolod City and my pre-med courses were BS in ECE and Masters Degree in Engineering. Yes! We share the same situation, we both have non-medical pre-med course. However, I did not let that hinder me in pursuing my life-long dream, to become a Doctor! I have no regrets taking an Engineering course. Yes, it did not prepare me for med school but I have learned so much in Engineering that I still use until today, which is problem-solving and MATH! Pediatrics involves A WHOLE LOT of MATH! So you see, getting a degree in Engineering was not a total waste! God planned it out for me already.. :) So if you have a non-medical pre-med course, it does not make you less worthy. You just have to work A LOT HARDER than others. It is your dream anyway, so working hard is a crucial part in achieving that! Whether you have or do not have a medical pre-med course, you still have to work and study hard!

Yes. Medical school os very expensive. It cans cost you from 100,000 per sem. But there are plenty of scholarships available. And yes, it would be a great idea na mag work muna before going to med school. Yes! You can take up to 3 times. If you fail again, you have to attend a refresher course before you can apply for the next try 😊

@WhiteCoatBlues
@WhiteCoatBlues 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I suggest that 1) Narrow down your med school options, and know if there are additional units you have to take, and 2) Plan when you will be taking the NMAT. When choosing the timing for NMAT, take into consideration the aforementioned additional units, when do you want to apply to med school, and whether you will be applying for NMAT review. Good luck!

No specific pre-med course needed for any medical specialization. For derm nurse, you have to take up BS Nursing. I made a video about pre-meds where I discuss this in details!

Already subscribed! Sir, is your pre-med (BS Nursing) a good backup course specifically for those poor people who want to go on medical school someday? The desire and passion to for going into medical field exist but the practicality? I quite doubt for it so your answer can help me a lot for choosing my college course for this year. Thanks in advance.

NMAT result is not a pass or fail, you get your results in percentile. And it depends on the med school as to what is the minimum percentile they require. As for the PLE, you can take up to 3 attempts. After that, you will have to attend refresher course prior to retaking.
