Hello, yes you can there a few unis that offer that in the UK but if you are just interested in the research element you could do a PhD.

Hi, Very useful video. I am currently doing my MSc psychology degree and aim to do MSc forensic psychology next academic year. I was wondering if you could provide me with some more information regarding the practitioner doctorate, Is this getting an assistant role? is there further studying alongside?

it would depend on the uni you are looking at so maybe have a look at the unis requirements and work backwards from there. Kelly

Hi,loved the video! Was just wondering if there was much maths involved in a criminology/psychology degree and then the masters in forensic psychology? I’m interested,but after looking into some course modules they seem quite maths & statistics based.Thank you! X
@kellythepsychologist
@kellythepsychologist 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebekah, yes there is stats involved but it isn't focused on everything you do, having a basic understanding is helpful but your skills will grow with practice. Kelly

Hi! Very informative video :) I've always been interested in criminal profiling and I was wondering if a forensic psychologist was the uk equivalent? And would I have to do a practitioner doctorate or a doctorate to become a forensic psychologist?
@kellythepsychologist
@kellythepsychologist 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, it isn't exactly the same but there is definitely some profiling as part of the role but not like what is seen on films. You can do either to be qualified, it depends on the route you would like to take.

Thanks for this video, its incredibly informative. I'm currently doing Psychology and Criminology, but it is not BPS accredited. I plan on doing a MSc psychology conversion course, and then specialising in Forensic Psychology, but the government only funds one masters loan, so I would have to fund the other myself (which I would struggle to do). Would you suggest the PhD or other doctorate routes would be better in my case (where I could get further funding) ?
@kellythepsychologist
@kellythepsychologist 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, it is difficult to say dependant on circumstances but there are other ways to become qualified if you were able to get an assistant or trainee psychologist post some employers will fund the training. I hope that helps.

Thanks for explaining. So after the MSc, it's possible to do the practitioner programme, and then do the actual doctorate to have the Dr title? Are there any advantages of doing the practitioner programme instead of stage 2 with the BPS?
@kellythepsychologist
@kellythepsychologist 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that is the process that I am doing. I don't really know in terms of advantages and disadvantages I think it depends on your working situation and time that you are able to allocate to studying and how quickly you want to complete it in.

Hi Kelly very informative video. Over lockdown I’ve had an interest in criminology and psychology and I’m now looking at forensic psychology. I don’t suppose you know if doing a course at uni would be available for me would you? I’m starting college in September and criminology for example is A-levels only which I can’t do. I don’t want to go for this one course and then be disappointed if I can’t actually end up doing it. Thanks!

Hello, I did Psychology and Criminology and went inform Forensic Psych but I think you can just do Psychology the main thing if you want to become qualified is for it to be recognised by the BPS.

Hey Luca, the jobs that I mention in this I think can be really helpful but there are lots of charities that work with individuals who may be at risk of offending or have offended which could be good as well.

How do you find working whilst studying for a doctorate? How long do you think it will take you? Did you find it relatively easy to find a placement to gain experience after your masters?
@kellythepsychologist
@kellythepsychologist 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leah, working and studying was a lot of delicate balancing it is do-able definitely but it is worth considering your own circumstances and how much you can study whilst still having a life. I didn't get placements, I was employed so I can't comment on if it would be hard or difficult to get placements but I know in the UK more and more places are offering forensic trainee roles.

Hi Kelly! I would like know about which route I can do to I become Forensic Psychologist! I am Chartered Psychologist , my formation was in Brazil (Graduate, Postgraduate and Master in Clinical Psychologist). I not have still experience here in UK. Is there a route that I don't need to do Doctorate? Which are the routes that HCPC offers to become Forensic Psychologist in my case?? Thank you so much! Lisete.

I’m 17 thinking of becoming a forensic psychologist in the future. I was wondering if you do a duo degree e.g. psychology and criminology, would that be a disadvantage or seen as not as eligible as someone who only did psychology because you didn’t learn all of the psychology topics? or would psychology and criminology look better when applying for forensic psychology.
@kellythepsychologist

Hello, I think it depends on what area you want to go in and if the degree is recognised by the appropriate governing bodies.
