I have my final WSET Diploma exam in May and have worked in the wine trade for 6 years, I would love to take the plunge and take on the MW. A bit daunting though.

Good luck with the diploma!!! I definitely recommend the MW but you might want to take a little break before diving in. The workload is quite heavy!

Is MW a lifetime certification? How do MWs keep their skills sharp and adapt to the latest trends / changes in the industry?

Hi Andrew. These are great questions! Yes, the MW is a lifetime certification. Each MW has their own methods to keep their skills sharp and remain up to date with trends. Most act as mentors for new students which keeps the study program fresh in their minds. Personally, I continue to taste daily - open and blind - and read a wide range of industry publications to remain tuned in.

Hi Anaïs. Thanks for watching. It depends on which topic you want to focus on. For viticulture, I found Stephen Sketon MW's book "Viticulture" to be very useful. For winemaking, I used Jamie Goode's "Wine Science" and David Bird's "Understanding Wine Technology. For wine tasting, I like Michael Schuster's book "Essential Wine Tasting". I also refer to Jancis Robinson's Wine Atlas, Oxford wine guide, and Wine Grapes book quite frequently.

@@JackyBlisson heard so much about Jancis’ books. Thanks for the recommendations.
