Alex is almost like an enlightened person but he’s wrapped in the form of a business man. 🤔 He’s doesn’t get stuck in polarized black or white thinking, he’s able to hold paradoxical points at the same time, he’s found this difficult balance of those high level ideas but grounded in passion and hard work. Howes talks about winning vs. losing sometime around 31mins in terms of football. The end result may have been a win, but the series of plays that occurred during the game were ALL small wins or loses. Focus on each one in an effort to improve. That's the real win. I learn so much from these interviews. Especially about myself.

Everything he said about being the top closer is so true: being 16 years old and the manager of Dept 3 at a publishing fundraising company, I was in charge of leading grownups who were my parents age, guiding them to sales, based on my own sales MVP consistency. Fun fact: Scottie Pippen, a basketball player, worked there at the same time! Excellent interview!

This is a great conversation. If you don't get the outcome you want, even if you thought you "gave it your all" there's a tendency to re-evaluate in retrospect that you could have done more. Or you just have a crappy strategy that no amount of effort would give you a successful outcome. You have to learn from your effort for success to be a foregone conclusion. And defining learning as changing behavior is brilliant.

10:11 And this is like what entrepreneurship feels like, if I can give it to anyone who's new to this, is the feeling of uncertainty that you don't know if all of the work that you've been spending all of your nights and weekends and off time investing in will ever pay off. And so it's this fear that you're wasting your time. But the reality is that the outcome isn't the thing that you're building.
