I said my shahada in front of the imam at the mosque because afterwards they gave me a certificate of conversion. I was told I may need to show this if (inch'allah) I go for the Hajj.

@@sasha_edits_stuff In order for a person to be a Muslim, it is not required that he declares his conversion to Islam in front of anyone, because Islam is a matter between a person and Allah. if it's only to obtain a document like certificate of conversion, there is nothing wrong with that, but without making that a condition for the validity of his conversion to Islam.

I am currently familiarising myself with the Quran Not only do I follow the Teachings of the Quran the Quran excites me I feel like a child in a candy store, give me more more more I am seeking to embrace the adherence of the five pillars of faith I was an atheist up until my early 40s when I had what I perceived to be a spiritual Awakening a mental movie, I saw the thread of Allah through my life this was mentally destabiling while spiritually enriching. Mufti menk you are from the same place as I, I am currently in bali (bali Island is hindu) however Indonesia is the biggest Muslim country. I have been listening to you for about a year and have been contemplating joining the Muslim/ Islamic faith after being a atheist for years but this past 13 months islam has been the only thing on my mind so i will be asking my Muslim friend to guide me along the path to become a Muslim. Being a atheist is only full of negative thoughts/sins and outcomes Listening to you has opened my eyes to the beautiful faith of Islam, I am currently not a Muslim however I do not allow blasphemy towards Islam because I feel one cannot judge what he/she doenst know Those reading, please be kind and not be negative towards me( I know the haters of Islam will attack me)
