I went to Marshall University! The PE/Health teaching program was called Wellness Education! I had to take the PE/Health state test (Praxis) to get my certification! I also got a minor in exercise science! 😁🏃🏽‍♀️

I was able to work a full time job until my last semester because I was full time student teaching. It really depends on the teacher prep program you go into (if it requires more or less time).

You should ask your program if you can add a PE endorsement. My degree is in elementary education, but wanted to do PE too so my program added a K-12 PE for me.

Hi Albert, what did you major in OSU? You do not need a masters degree in OR to teach. However, you do need to go through a teaching preparation program (intern in a PE class) and pass the required state exams. @@jeannelle_ The reason why I am asking is because I am having a hard time passing the Part II of the GACE assessment because when I took it had questions on there about Square Dancing, Badminton, and things like that I didn't even study for! Smh and that was my 2nd time taking it. I really don't understand why Square dancing was on the assessment when nobody does it anymore. I felt like they gave me the wrong test. The first time I took the II Part of GACE Assessment it didn't have those types of questions and I was only a couple of points off and almost passed it. Smh Also I was wondering how many PE teachers are in your school? I always see that Elementary Schools here where I live in Georgia only have 1 PE teacher where as Middle and High School have more than 1 teacher. Is it overwhelming to be the only PE teacher? I will be seeing if I could shadow a PE teacher but I really like your content to actually see the day in the life of a PE Teacher. It's actually hard to find these kinds of channels so thank you for sharing this information.

Oh giiirl. I definitely failed my PE state exam too lmao. The test I took is ORELA because I'm in Oregon, but I did have questions relating to badminton (been teaching PE for 4 years and still haven't taught it). I think depending on the school districts and grade some require a PE curriculum that involves square dancing which probably has questions relating to that. I would google "PART II GAGE Assessment questions" because I googled so many "ORELA PE questions" and I studied the quizlet and whatever else I could find on google to help with the exam. Keep trying and believe you can do it! For elementary in the school districts where I live there's one PE teacher per elementary. Middle school is like 1-2 PE teachers, high school is like 2-3 PE teachers. This all depends on the city/town you live in and the budget that the school district has. My average class size is 22 so it's not too bad. I do recommend volunteering/shadowing a PE teacher specifically the grades you want to teach. So glad my content can help in some way!

Hi Dae, my teaching prep program was 1.5 years to complete. I started college in 2012, graduated 2017, took a year off and in total of being in school it was 6.5 years🙃. I do not recommend, but the reason it took me so long is because I had no idea what I wanted to do and I took a break after undergrad.

I’m not sure how it works in California. I heard that California is one of the strictest states when it comes to becoming a teacher. I would definitely ask an academic advisor or the lead / director of your master program and ask if that counts for your teaching credential. Thank you for watching!

How hard was it for you to find a full time job? (Maybe I missed it in the video if so sorry). Because I love physical education, but I know it's very hard to find positions usually since most schools only have 1 gym teacher and they don't retire often. What was it like for you? Did it take a while?

I'm going to be honest. I feel grateful that I was able to get a PE job mid year after I graduated last school year and then I got a different PE job for this school year and not be able to move. For me, it was easy to get PE jobs, however, everyone's experience is different. If you are willing to move then it can be easy to get PE jobs, but if you don't want to move it may be difficult. I would suggest volunteering at your ideal school district because the more people you know, the better connections you'll have. To teach, most states require that you have a bachelors degree. Depending on what state and school district you're in. You can be a PE teacher with a bachelors and/or master's in nutrition, just follow the school district's requirements when you're applying for the position.

@@deegriffin8422 depends on your program if it is a k-12 PE you don’t have to teach high school, you can only look at k-6 jobs. Usually most states require that you have a bachelors in the related field you want to teach. I’m not sure if you can get a teaching job with an associates degree, but you never know. I suggest when you’re applying for jobs always look at the requirements of what they are looking for.

Not long at all. Only because I was looking at jobs almost every day during my last semester. I graduated in December 2020, applied & got the job in November 2020. It depends where you live too. Super grateful I was able to get a PE job right away.

I’m not too familiar with requirements in Canada, but if I were you I’d research the school districts or schools I’d want to work at and email the HR to ask what requirements you would need besides a degree. You can also look at the qualification section when you’re applying to PE jobs, see what they require.

Nice! You got a part time position as a PE teacher 👍🏽. The most important is to have classroom management, get your routines and rules down. There’s a book on Amazon called Responsive Teaching for Art, PE, Music teachers. It provides tips on what to do and how to handle specific situations.

@@klydek2861 I’m not a sports person either. I’ve never done any sports really haha. If a school asked you to be a coach you can always decline the offer. For PE, we do have to teach the skills of basketball, volleyball, badminton, other sports, depending on the curriculum. As long as you’re learning about it, you can do it 👏🏽

physical education is not all about throwing balls and perform physical activity....but it is more about teaching, developing child......not only physically but mentally.........only for throwing ball we can hire PTI (physical training instructor)...but for teaching we need master degree qualified teachers......PET(Physical education teacher)
