I am not a pilot and myself, nevewr will be, I am a 73 year old retired electoronic technician in the greater Montrreal area. (Only once did I get "Saaniched" in Sydney!) However I have a friend who has a commercial license he got iin the U.S. (although he is a Canadian). Unfortunatley he lost his chance in life to become an airline pilot,however he would love to do something with it for the latter years of his career. I think something like crop dusting, water bomber, regional or executive, but first he needs some added training on a limited budget and some "injected moral pep". I noticed that you also come from "The other side of the great divide" i.e., BC. Currently he is in Alberta (having originated in Quebec), but also has people close to him in BC. I will keep his name anonymous for now, too respewct his privacy, but if I catch a phone number that might reach you by way of oner of the flight schools etc. in your area, I might try to call up with some more details and questions, as he also had a second occupation that is mobile. Now let's see what "flies" here!

Another way of obtaining the helicopter pilots license is to be an interested employee of a helicopter company and take your training while part of your work compensation pays for your training. I worked in the parts department of Canada’s largest, at the time, helicopter company back in the mid 1970’s and more than a few got it that way!

Yes that type of sponsorship does exist, if you are fortunate to find someone who is willing to invest in you. Unfortunately people don’t stick around at one company for long enough to make that investment worth it anymore.

helpful video! It should be noted that you need to be a Canadian citizen to join the army to get a pilots license. In addition to this, I would recommend using a narrow lens for videos such as these simply because a wide angle lens highly distorts the subjects!

Hello, I am a successful 39 years old finance professional in Toronto and want to become a professional pilot in a commercial passenger airline. I have 3 questions for you please: 1. How much time it will take me to be able to fly a commercial passenger jet? 2. How much money is required for it? (ballpark) 3. If I joined a flight school/club at a regional airport I could possibly do it along with my full-time job for the time being? I am mentally and physically fitter than some of the people half my age.

Hello, I am currently a grade 9 student and I was thinking about my career path and what job I would like to pursue. I love the thought of becoming a pilot, but I am still unclear of the process. If I were to become a pilot I’d want to fly commercially. Do I have to go to university after graduating highschool or can I go straight to flight school? How long would it take to graduate flight school? I live in Toronto, and was wondering if the competition to get into a flight school would be high, and if so should I apply elsewhere inside Ontario? Please do reply if you have the chance, thank you!

What is your definition of a decent first job? Until you get 500hrs you are only going to get ramp/dispatch/flying positions on a 206 or caravan. 500hrs is an insurance requirement for you to get into a Navajo or King air.

The pilot industry has never been hotter than it is now! Pilots are getting hired at the regionals with a 1000hrs when before it was 3000, and at mainline carriers with 2500hrs when before it was 5000. But there is no telling how long this surge will last, so you definitely want to get into this career for the right reasons. My path is #2. I study in South Korea. But I think the flight school in my country is pretty poor. So instructor job is not many. Once I graduate my aviation university I need to find a job in a flight school. So Canadian flight school can be an option. I heard that Canadian flight school provide the residence visa to foreign instructor pilots.

The subject that helps in aviation is math. Some integrated courses require grade 12 math or physics, so it’s best to have 1 of those. Some courses don’t require either, as long as you have all the subjects to graduate high school.

Get some tutor help to help improve your math. Check all potential tutors, as costs can vary greatly. I was very poor in math in late primary school and early secondary school, however, started to 'see the light' in late high school and my early college years. Ended-up obtaining an ocean-going (marine) navigator's certificate, some subjects, of which required the use of spherical trigonometry (among other math tools). I exelled at this. Best of luck to you & 'Godspeed'! If not the airlines, there's always opportunities in flying in the Canadian bush.

If you are young enough you can join the Cadets and they also fly gliders. Plus, you can get sponsored to do your PPL through them, its something you can look into. If you really want to serve in the military, really make sure you are OK staying there if you don't pass the flight training program, as its really tough. Hello! Because you have post secondary, you don’t really need a flight college, you can just find an accelerated 2yr pilot program. Flight colleges do offer those, but most attach a diploma with it, so you would have to find a college without a diploma program. 26 is definitely not too late. Most of your questions will be answered if you watch my learn to fly playlist and finding a pilot job playlist👍🏻

Hi , 😀 is the time building is counted in pilot experience.For example , If an hours job requirement is 3000 TT , does this mean that you need just 2000 hours as a pilot plus 1000 builded hours
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 5 жыл бұрын
Total time is the total hours of flying you have, it doesn’t matter how you accumulated them. If a job requires 3000TT the only way to get there is having a pilot job, nobody builds 1000hrs, you work as a pilot to get those hours.

Hi I really appreciate your videos. I was hoping you could answer my question. Will I be less likely to get a job as a pilot if I get my licenses from a flight school rather then a college aviation program. Also, is it worth it to get a unrelated degree from a university if I were to get the licenses from a flight school?
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 5 жыл бұрын
It does not matter to companies how you got your license, as long as you a competent pilot with a good work ethic. University is only needed at the main airline level, but even they have relaxed some of their requirements with the pilot shortage. So, the cheapest way is to get it done at a flight school, go to university on the side if you can, and get your first flying job ASAP after getting your license. If you do have the cash, then you can go the aviation program way and it will be slightly faster, but more intense and stressful with a chance of failing if you have poor worth ethic. Hope that helps!

Hi there, i work for air Canada in Toronto ground handler for 6 years and I’m 36 years old. I really would love to be a pilot. Do you think I’m too old to go for it at this stage of my life?!
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 5 жыл бұрын
Hey! No you’re not too old, but you should have a different game plan than most. Airlines are all about seniority, so because you are starting late, it might not be the best option. If you are done by age 40, you theoretically have 25yrs to fly till 65, but can you afford to climb up the seniority ladder and low pay? What would be more enjoyable is finding a spot in the middle, either air ambulance or corporate flying. Both pay well and you don’t spend too much time away from family. Check out my pilot pay video, that might help you make a decision👍🏻 PS: I don’t know how AC’s seniority system works, but look into whether you can keep your seniority number while working ground part time and finish your flight training, then keep working ground part time until you get hired as a pilot and perhaps you won’t loose your retirement flight benefits. Versus if you quit, and you want to fly for AC in the future, can you come back to your old seniority?

I get this question often, and no! I fly with many people who changed careers in their 30’s, and currently with the pilot shortage there is no better time in my honest opinion. If you can get your licenses done in 2yrs, take another 2yrs to build 1000hrs, then you will be at the regionals in Canada in 4-5yrs. 3rd yr regional captain makes $80k. More days away from home at the regionals, but it’s a livable wage. If you want to pursue corporate, that is also a great direction with good income. Less flying and time away from home, but you are always on call. Pro’s and Con’s to both. Check out my other videos about the pilot career for more info👍🏻

Getting in is no problem, it just depends how long you want to grind up the ladder. You will be at a regional about 5yrs, then you get to the mainline and take a pay cut, then about 10yrs to get to captain again. Retirement age is 65 at the airlines, then if you want to keep flying you have to find a lower tiered job (corporate, charter etc).

Cause my wife's aunt got a chance to sit next to a West Jet Pilot 2 weeks ago in a flight going to Toronto and that pilot happens to be a Filipino too just like me. She asked him about his background and how did he became a pilot, and the pilot told her that he was back then just a High Schoold graduate in the Phils then he went to Canada and studied aviation. But she never got the chance to ask if he loaned or something or what path did he take, but the pilot told her that becoming a pilot in Canada was "easy". Not to mention the pilot was in his mid or late 20's. He also told my aunt in law that Canada will need 950+ pilots by next year. What the pilot said to my aunt in law made my hopes up. Yes, but it’s a little more complicated than that. First it’s the air force that you should be researching, not the army. Then, they have quite a strict selection process, and you have to apply with a private pilot’s license from what I remember. Plus you have to finish 4yrs at Kingston college and serve for a minimum of 11yrs if you are selected for pilot. So yes, everything is paid for, BUT to make it through the pilot selection process is very hard, and if you don’t make it you still have to serve for a number of years to pay off your education. Currently going into my second year as a pilot candidate for the RCAF. Just going to clarify a few things. You don't require a PPL or any flying experience to apply. Phase one starts from the ground up whether you've flown or not. And the method you are explaining is the ROTP entry program through RMC Kingston. You can also apply as a direct entry candidate if you already have a bachelor's degree from any Canadian university. I however didn't do either, there is a new accelerated entry program only a few years old where you get accepted just after highschool, and rather than go to RMC for four straight years and then begin flight training, you instead go back and forth between phases of flight training and Seneca college in Toronto working on a Bachelor's in Aviation Technologies. Anyone considering it I encourage you to as this last year of my life has been incredibly rewarding, however like he mentioned, getting accepted is very tough in itself and a long process.
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 6 жыл бұрын
Fantastic, thanks for the clarification! A lot has changed since I lived in cold lake, I was a flight instructor at the regional airport. I’m glad to hear that they re-structured their training a little better and it sounds more balanced. I remember cadets coming in and wanting to rent the aircraft because it would be 1-2yrs before the next stage started and they didn’t want to loose all their skill. The Air Force must be feeling the shortage of applicants like the airlines are, sounds like they are all using the same tactics to recruit future pilots. I wish you best of luck in your training! Are you hoping for jet or cargo?

This program you entered, was that the CEOTP program? I'm almost 22 years old and I very much want to become a pilot for the RCAF before it's too late, but I have no interest in any of the other roles in the Air Force. However, all I have is my GED. I do however have my Private Pilot License and I have a bit of glider experience back in New Zealand so I've always had an interest in flying. If there is anywhere I can contact you about this that would be much appreciated!

I would still take the same path as I did when I started, the modular or pay as you fly route. Go to a flight school and start flying👍🏻

I don’t recommend any schools as they all have to teach to the same standard. I do have a video on how to pick a flight school tho, check it out👍🏻

Hey I'm 16 right now, going to 11th grade (high school) I have 2 years left. I started thinking about being a pilot and I think it's the job I want it and the job I'll like. I live in the USA. I'm taken Physics, English, and math right now, and ofc Chemistry. I passed English, math and geometry last year (th10 grade) I did really good. If I keep it up and I get A's or B's On all the subjects I said above, will I be able to be a pilot? If yes then do i still need to go to college and study Math, Physics, and science? Please help me! Thank you.

There are no specific grade requirements to become a pilot, flight schools don’t look at grades, you just show up, pay money, and learn to fly. If you want to go to a flight college, they do look at grades to thin out the competition. If you do regular flight training and post secondary on your own, then of course grades matter to enter a good university and study something useful in life like business, which is something everyone I think needs, a post secondary diploma in a useful and practical field (business, entrepreneur, etc). Always focus on good grades to give you options in life later and you won’t get stuck if you need to change course plans or career

If you are wanting to seriously pursue this profession, start with my playlist Learn to Fly kzbin.info/aero/PLy8Rb6qM39MRvxPTk9ySOI4uibuGhYazh. Then I would find a local flight school and go for a familiarization flight.

Aviator Inspirations thank you so much, I'll watch more of your videos right now to understand more. Been thinking about pilot for a months now and I am really into it. One more question so when I'm done with high school (in 2 years) what's better to go to pilot school (and you already have money for it, because my dad said he will pay and ofc I work and pay) or to go to college and take Physics, math, and science "biology"?

You can do both. I went to school for aircraft maintenance while I was learning to fly, just so I could have a diploma. So go to college for a diploma or degree, and do flight training at the same time on weekends or days you don’t have school. I started flying at 16, so you don’t have to wait until you graduate high school

Aviator Inspirations but if I do college and pilot school, wouldn't it be hard? Wouldn't they want the degree or diploma so they know I am good? Or when i apply for a pilot job I show them the degree?

Hi I am a 29 years old Egyptian pharmacist have a long term goal to work for a major airline in the US (delta). so I decided to take the fast track 2 year program of ATP flight school. but my main concern is that I have a 5 year degree in pharmacy here in Egypt and it needs to be equalized first to the American one to work as a pharmacist in the US.I heard that I will not be able to wok for a major airline like delta without a minimum of 4 year university degree which I have but it is from cairo.So my main question is should I equalise this degree first to work as a commercial pilot for major airlines? .what worth noting is that the process of transforming this degree to the American one is a difficult and long process full of exams then I will not use the degee itself except for being hired by delta!! if any one just tell that they will accept the egyption one, I will be more than happy😊

That’s a challenging question! I am not familiar with US airlines or what degrees they need to work for them. In Canada you don’t need one, only air canada prefers one. Many people find it difficult to convert their degrees in North America, and unfortunately there is no easy way, you have to write the exams and almost repeat the schooling. Is it worth it? That’s up to you! First clarify which airlines for sure require a degree, and which ones don’t. Perhaps it’s easier finding an airline that doesn’t require a degree. You can always email all the recruitment departments and maybe get an answer if they will accept the Egyptian degree or not. Good luck!
