Roberto Blake I've been doing public speaking when I was still a high school student. And I have been invited to speak for many events and conduct a workshop in my hometown and other parts of our province. The biggest crowd I've been speaking is 500 young people. Now I am starting my own blog related to self development and I am hoping to start a yt channel soon. It's a new area for me and I am still trying to become more comfortable in front of the camera. Thankyou so much for inspiring me. I've been doing video marathon on all your videos but I still have many playlist to watch😂😂😂. I already created by brand, for my blog and future vlog. Thanks to you! All I need to do is to show it on my channel soon.

I'm hesitant to approach local events without anything to show I can speak. Since I've never had a live speaking gig, all I have is my KZbin channel, and I'm worried it's not enough to prove I'm credible. I'm thinking of throwing a statement up on my Facebook about knowing a motivational speaker, in case someone is looking for one, and then revealing it's me once someone inquires about "the guy I know". Amy Schmittauer also talked about setting up Google alerts for your niche and the phrase "call for speakers". So, I think I'm going to do that too. This video was SUPER helpful. I think I'm going to dedicate more time to finding a speaking gig, and just do it.

Roberto Blake I am working on becoming a public speaker. It's actually the name of my vlog I just started on KZbin. Lack of people knowing my work is what's "holding me back". I'm just working on building my brand so over time it will pan out.

one of those who inspires me so much is Iyanla Vanzant. I like her rythm, the tone of her voice, her gesture, and her topics. I love her smile. I feel like she controls her audience with that bright smile

As a professional speaker, I wholeheartedly agree and second your advice to practice, practice, practice! I relate to talking fast... My biggest challenge! Recording myself has helped me learn to slow down and continue to speak clearly. I overdose on listening to other speakers, too! It's helpful to know what works... One important tip is limiting content on PowerPoint slides. People tend to read a full screen instead of listening to you. A bullet point or two (and image) per slide is your talking point guide. Great info! Thanks for sharing!

Man Tip #6 is killer too... haha you keep dropping these golden nuggets I have to keep commenting. Be yourself and you'll move confident and fast. Be what you want others to think of you then you'll be stiff and nervous worrying about not making mistakes. It's all about owning YOURSELF and then carrying that vibe throughout life. I DIG IT!

Hi Roberto. I'm a outdoor Activity instructor. One of the main things I need to do in my career is talk for long amounts of time. Safety etc.. I always take breathes and if I make mistakes I will then laugh about the mistakes with the kids and make it into something funny. I also try and speak loudly. We also were taught about what to do with our hands. I never have my arms folded and instead have then behind my back. This way you are opening yourself up. If anyone has any questions about being a outdoor instructor or teaching kids let me know! Always willing to help! :). Keep up the work roberto!

I got a notification that you posted this video as I was falling asleep, and almost got out of bed to watch it! Then decided the morning was better, so I could take notes and apply the tips. Thank you so much for this! The timing is perfect. I'm going to check out the books you mentioned and I think I'm going to start asking people I know in certain industries what kinds of events are coming up where I might be able to speak. I'm going to look up some bigger events to volunteer at, as well. Thanks again!

Roberto - I am feelin' this video!! I'm growing my personal brand and want to take my expertise in living a happy lifestyle as an entrepreneur to KZbin. I'm really trying to grow my channel and I know that in order for me to do that I need to work on my public speaking. You are 100% right in trying to find your rhythm. It felt awkward af recording myself on camera and I couldn't speak normally... Over time though with practice, I felt a little more comfrotable. Thanks again for the content man. Keep up the videos!

Can you recommend books or videos about finding your rhythm and getting comfortable with speech patterns...Or do you suggest I just dive in and "mistake" my way to victory? I hate the pauses that I take. I just got to the end of your video. You answered it. Thanks.

Roberto! One thing you didn’t mention that I was hoping to hear - how do you find the actual opportunities m? Not the ones to get started locally and get comfortable and find yourself. I’ve done a bunch of public speaking, but often I find out about the perfect events where I could have brought something to the table the DAY OF the event when people start tweeting about the event they are attending! Or I’ll hear about it before the event, but after they’ve filled all the slots (SummitLive and VidSummit for example.) How do you go about finding these events when you’re in a great position to contribute? Join mailing lists? Googling certain phrases?
@RobertoBlake
@RobertoBlake 7 жыл бұрын
+Andru Edwards I will do a dedicated video on that. Short hack is to look at the previous events list of someone you know is a speaker and then look up those events and speakers you know to make an introduction for you.

I think definetly starting a KZbin channel and create videos like these is a good one. Even though you are just speaking to a camera, you are sharing what you are talking about and people can give you feedback.

Roberto! I have a question! I've only spoken once and it was not recorded. Would it be ok in the beginning to put a couple of my best videos on my speaker web page in lieu of a speaking reel? (The type of videos I'm talking about are talking head style monologue giving my art career advice) - please let me know if you can! Thanks for the inspiration!!! PS THIS VIDEO IS GOLD!!!!
