This is a fascinating thing. I have found that our subconcious is far superior to our conscious (at least for me and some others I have spoken to) at many things. I think it is because we get in our own way when it comes to denying the prodding of our intuition in determining our behavior. One excellent example is in complex levels of video games, where there is tricky timing or complex reactions required I have found that if I am really really stuck on a level, the best thing to do is let myself be distracted by other things while playing. Fox example I get more than twice as far when playing tetris while also watching a movie and chatting with my kids than I do when sitting quietly just playing tetris. It even extends to less time staring at the game screen actually giving better results. Its incredible. The more that I rely on my subconscious to play the game, the better I do. One other interesting point, I once fell asleep at the wheel ( I was a traveling salewoman at the time and exhausted from being on the road ) and I drove for at least 10 blocks while my conscious brain was entirely asleep. My eyes were still open, but I was basically sleep driving. I turned off of one road onto a boulevard, stopped at a stop light and drove on before finally I crashed when my eyes closed. I had 3 other people in the car with me who said I was driving perfectly until my eyes closed and then I immediately drove up a curb and popped a tire, I woke up in time to narrowly miss crashing into a tree. Point being, my subsconscious/intuition was perfectly adequate to the task of driving even while my conscious mind was snoozing away. It makes sense that games that remove the conscious effort of processing from our "control" and rely on the subconscious mind are far more capable than scientists who have trained minds to actively engage with the equations before them. Last tiny example is that all through university I wrote papers a single time, with no drafting etc. , often without ever reviewing the material and in many cases didn't even purchase textbooks, relying entirely on my previous familiarity with a subject from life and general autodidactic knowledge acqusition, to inform my writing. It proved a sucessful strategy for me resulting in a nearly flawless rate of educational achievement and perfect grades on nearly every paper I wrote. The subconscious mind and intuition are amazing things!

Intuition is indeed a powerful thing. I picture it a lot with first time parents, when they rationalize it too much, they usually have a harder time at the job that the ones who let intuition guide them and filter all the noise around it. When I had my second child, with a gap of 7 years, intuition was the main leader automatically.

SteeVeeDee - When I was 18, I was rushing through a crowded shopping centre as I was late for an important business meeting. I was walking fast and looking for the room I was supposed to be, when, all of a sudden, the face of my best friend appeared vividly to my consciousness. He was a photo model and sometimes appeared on the cover of a magazine. I looked back and saw that I had passed a large magazine rack with some 50 different magazines on display. I walked back and glanced at the magazines row by row until I came to the magazine with my friend's face on the cover. The point is that the subconscious picks up way more information than is sent to the consciousness. It's like the subconscious had picked up my friend's face and informed my consciousness. All the other magazine covers on that rack that my subconscious had also picked up - and all the people I was passing - were of no interest thus not sent to consciousness. Probably the same thing happened with your 5-leaf clover. Your subconscious sent a message to your consciousness: "Hey! Stop! Here is something interesting that you should look into."

While playing Quake 2 Rocket Arena, I used to use super position discarding (there is only so many reactions/things a player can do once he/she sees you) to predict what a typical player would do (You can see this on old match replays, speculative fire/spam, really good players will hit the target a LOT doing this). In Milli seconds you create a virtual situation in your imagination, then start discarding WHAT the player can do (Using ALL your previous experiences playing the game) , leaving you with 2-3 prime options for the nme reaction.

Haha the 4 clover story I can relate to. I must have close to a 100 in my life. Ever since I was a little girl and to this day. I stopped picking them up, my pleasure is finding them. Last year I told my son, let s see if I can find one under a minute. I found 5! lol in about a min, pretty much lined up next to each other. My family doesn't understand, nor do I but oh well, just my thing.Watching this made me think about an other experience.Went to spend one month in a monastry in Thailand. Meditating most of the time. Towards the end we were asked to meditate day and night. Very hard of course but I wanted to push my limits. Eventually I sat down in meditation and my mind would picture my body, walk towards the bed, jump in, tuck itself in there and go to sleep. One of me was sat in meditation very aware. Another of me was sound asleep. I left the monastry, had not technically slept for 5 days, yet full of energy. No real explanation for me to this day, but I did experience that.

alborada777 I've done the same thing twice. Once I had a teacher spread a deck of cards out on the stage and told me to choose a card in my head. I chose ace of hearts. Then he told me to pull it out of the mess of cards. I reached out, pulled a card and damn if it wasn't the ace of hearts. I was convinced it was a trick, but it wasn't. Later, I happened to be present when a drawing for a free tax thing was being done and my name was in the basket. There were not many people a around so the organizer asked me to draw a card. I told her, laughing, that I would draw my own name. I reached into the basket, pulled out a card and sure enough, it had my name on it. When I put the card in I'd fold it in half. And so when I went in to draw one, I intentionally chose one that wasn't folded. But somehow I still ended up with my card.

Most of the things I'm interested in, are things I was born with a talent for. I've always had a talent for the core skills in school, Especially writing and math. I plan to be an author, but studying creative writing in college is something u can't do on it's own really. So I'll likely focus my college career on Quantum Physics and take Creative Writing as my minor or something like that since there aren't many Creative Writing majors out there. I have been interested in Quantum Physics for years. I even made a theory I'd like to figure out how to prove. I have to learn calculus and take classical physics before I can do any of that though. But I will. I'll get it done, probably get a masters in Creative Writing and maybe a second in Quantum Physics. Maybe I'll even go all the eay to doctorate with it if I like it enough after so many years. But for now, I need to focus on graduating high school and getting into the best college I can.

The descriptions he's giving for a quantum mindset (in psychological terms) are people low-in-conscientiousness and high-in-openness, whereas people with classical physics mindsets (Newtonians) are probably higher in conscientiousness and slightly lower in openness (probably still decently high, which is fairly important for scientists, I imagine).

I had forgotten this but the video reminded me of it.... - When I was about 5 years old in the '60's I was running along in front of some old barns over grass and clover. I suddenly got the flash that there was a 5-leaf clover and bent down and found one straight away. Even though I was very young I still was amazed that it was actually there. - Believing that something (plausable) is going to happen and then experiencing it coming to fruition is the basis of the book 'The Secret' which has allegedly been known and practised by those in the know for thousands of years. Try to believe but still have doubts and it will almosts certainly not happen. The universe seems to respond to our mind.

There's a few things one must understand about intuition to get the most out of it. Intuition, for the most part, is developed. This game uses intuition to solve problems but it still requires an investment of time. It is by playing the game that one comes to understand the rules and the possibilities, this is the knowledge that underlies the formation of intuitions. A cognitive bias is simply an area where intuition tends to fail us. The "single victim effect" manifests as a sensitivity and empathy that is greater when one person is a victim, or when one person represents victimization of many. Our empathy for a tragic event, like the hurricanes in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico..etc is greater when we come to understand the plight of single person, rather than the knowledge that thousands of people had their homes destroyed. Just watching the news day in day out can make some stories seem more ubiquitous then they really are. Theres a feeling that the world is becoming more and more violent and immoral, even though most of the evidence suggests that opposite is true. Deaths from war or local violence is lower per capita today than it has ever been. Crime has also been decreasing around the world when we make decade to decade comparisons. Understanding the mistakes we tend to make with regard to intuition helps us to understand when intuition can be used effectively.
