Thanks for sharing! It was cool hearing your journey. I’m in a similar boat where I was premed in college, but decided that it wasn’t for me. And then somehow landed a job in management consulting but still feeling as if God has something else for me. Social work has been one of the options I’ve been considering so this was a helpful perspective!

Hello, I'm a current student in college, I'm failing with college exams 😔 I'm trying to change my major from business administration to Human Services degree.. I love helping people in any way, I love donating clothes, giving gifts to people. Something have recently clicked in my mind as well!! "Becoming a social worker" 😮 I'm terrified as well, being a disabled woman is very tough to handle daily tasks. If I complete everything that needs to be done in social work, ( I would love to work from home, first) Just take it slow!!! Any advice?

I’m sorry that you’re having a hard time with your exams. Your concerns are valid, however, you can do it!! There are work from home jobs that you can do once you get your degree such as virtual psychotherapy.

I love the field of social work, it is so broad and you can go into any field. I am currently finishing up my BSW and will start my MSW in August it will only take a year it's the advanced standing option because I have a BSW.

@@bcmgher To get certain careers like school social worker a BSW or MSW alone is good for some states. Is it mandatory to get a LCSW in Maryland or that's if you want your LCSW?

Hey Amanda! Sure. I'd suggest looking into group homes, case management, day programs, adult protective services, intake specialist, etc. I hope this helps and all the best in undergrad!

Hi! You don't need a master's to work as a social worker. In some cases, you need a BSW (or degree in counseling, psychology, etc.).

What would you highlight in your essay and application for grad school if you don’t have social work experience in undergrad? I’m a psychology and english double major with internship experience more related to my english degree. Do I still have a shot at getting into grad school for social work?

I would say to highlight your strengths. Talk about some accomplishments you achieved in undergrad (academically and also socially if any). Yes! With the psychology background, you definitely have a shot at getting into grad school.

I'd suggest an undergraduate degree in counseling, sociology, psychology (or similar). I don't think it's required at all institutions, but it may be helpful.

Not to my knowledge, no. But I'd say to check with your school to see if that's an option.
