How to become a songwriter.

Today, if you want to be songwriter and get far you've got to produce music and work with other producers. You can't start understanding musical structure until you get into a DAW and start working on beats and rearranging instruments. Playing keys or guitar is also a must.

I don't know where to start learning music... My songs have only existed in my head as melodic poetry. I so truly don't know how to bridge the gap from imagination to reality, or literally where to even start. Helpfull tip: sit down with somebody who knows how to write a song and can play piano or guitar and hum out and pretty much tell them as much of the song as you can. Also- write down as many things as you can, because you don’t want to forget.

You can do that. It’s called “top-lining”-where you would just create the lyrics/vocal melody. You should work on finding producers or beat makers you like and go from there. Determine whether the relationship would be work-for-hire or a collaboration/partnership at the beginning. Hope this helps.
