@KathleenJasperEdD17 күн бұрын
Hi there. We're so glad it was helpful. For classroom exposure, substitute teaching is a great option. It’s flexible, and you’ll see different classrooms and grade levels. Paraprofessional roles (teacher’s aide) are another good choice if you want something more consistent and hands-on. You can also volunteer at local schools or ask about classroom observations to see experienced teachers in action. And if you know any teachers, reach out. Networking can open doors to opportunities. ~Kathy Customer Support at Kathleen Jasper LLC

Thank you for your explanation of the process! I have my degree in applied mathematics. I know it depends on the state (I am in Oregon), but what do you think are the chances that I would be able to teach high school math after turning in my transcripts?
@KathleenJasperEdD Жыл бұрын
You can teach high school math. You can teach in many states while working on your certification. You will have to complete the tests (check your state for which ones) and complete an alternate certification program. Be sure to contact you state Department of Education to find out exactly what you have to do. However, most districts are looking for qualified math teachers. High school students have to meet high standards in math to pass the state exam. I am sure your skills will be an asset. Good luck!

hi i’m junior in high school. i’m looking forward to being a teacher. however right now i’m looking on where to start. i don’t have the best experience in high school but i’m trying to better it by getting my credits i need to graduate. i have many questions besides high school and my current state, where should i begin on looking too? especially money being one of my problems a 4 year university seems a lot to me. i know i can work towards paying it off but i don’t want to be in debit. where do you recommend i start? what are things you would of done differently if you’ve chose to be a teacher at a young age?
@KathleenJasperEdD Жыл бұрын
Hi there, so glad you asked. To be a teacher, you have to have a 4-year degree. But you can get that degree from any accredited college. To save money, many people will go for two years at a community college. The first 2 years of college are usually referred to as your AA. I HIGHLY recommend you do not spend a bunch of money on that part of your education. Find a college in your state that provides tuition waivers and grants. Try not to get loans. Try to find money for school through waivers and grants. Also, you are very young, and you may change your mind. Try to find the most affordable degree you can. I am telling you, it doesn't matter where you get your degree. Just make sure the school is accredited. The biggest thing I would have done differently (GREAT question by the way) is I would not have spent so much on my undergrad degree. I was young and did not understand that a 45k loan would take a very long time to pay back. I would have tried to find the money through grants and waivers. You're smart to ask these questions. Think about the return on investment (ROI) of your degree. Teaching doesn't pay much. So spending a ton on the degree does not have a great ROI. Thank you so much for watching and for your questions.

Hi! Very useful channel this one. Thank you in advance. Look, today I started my process of applying for a temporary certification here in FL. However, after creating my account successfully, I moved forward to the next step and filled out all forms regarding address, names and SSN. The problem is that I didn’t find the option Temporary Certification and picked cCertification and submenu: Educator Certification Application. The next steps required me to mention subjects add them and inform my educational background. I did everything, all my BA and Master etc. but got stuck in there because the system doesn’t let me move next step. The system wants me to mention all my work experiences as a teacher, dates, schools, etc., and I don’t have them. I’m applying for a temporary certification/ permit to teach. Can you help me saying where I made the mistake and how to fix it? I even didn’t upload my transcripts. Did I pick the wrong option?
@KathleenJasperEdD Жыл бұрын
HI there, They do not call it a temp certification anymore. Instead, you get a letter of eligibility. You fill out the online application on the state department of education website (FLDOE.org) and then you will receive a letter of eligibility in the mail. You have to go through the state. I would contact the FLDOE if you are having trouble with the website. It is a process and they move slowly. So be patient. Have a great day and good luck!

Thanks for talking about NJ! the website is so confusing. I have my BFA from the US, but I went abroad for my MFA. I'm having a hell of a time trying to get ahold of my transcripts for my MFA. I think they have to be translated and notarized by a third party company before they are sent to me, and now NJ only takes things electronically so I don't know how I'd even submit them if they're just supposed to get to me in a sealed envelope. I don't even know where to start with that bit. I don't know if I should be contacting the school to have them send the transcripts somewhere to be notarized, or if I should be looking for the company to do it and seeing if they acquire the transcripts for me. In the meantime I've made an account on the NJ site but I'm afraid to submit my undergrad transcripts before I have anything for grad school. I'd rather submit it all together, but who knows how long it could take! What a nightmare.

Hi Kathleen, I’m not talking about masters, some colleges have a post baccalaureate program for people who already have a bachelors but want to pursue teaching as a career. My question is would doing what you said in your video be a better alternative and less expensive than enrolling in the post bacc certification program or is the same thing?? Also when you mention the courses you have to take to become a teacher, those are college course right? So you had to enroll back to college to fulfill the requirements. Did you have to do student teaching??? I do substitute teaching so can’t that take place of student teaching? ( I heard when you student teach you can’t work) I’m just looking at the costs and trying to see if I do the courses and still work so that I can pay my bills. I’d appreciate any help you can give me.
@KathleenJasperEdD3 жыл бұрын
@@tanseelou806 Ok yes know I see. The thing about the alternative cert route is you can do it while teaching. And it is usually a certified program by the state, so you know for sure you'll get that certification. I would go the alt cert route personally. That's what I did. Also, try to find a waiver or grant. Sometimes, if you can prove financial hardship, which isn't difficult if you're substitute teaching, you can get waivers and discounts. Usually, it only take a letter explaining your situation. I still cannot believe they charge for that. With the teacher shortage, they should be paying for it.

I wanted to ask about student teaching, did you end up doing student teaching or can substitute teaching take the place of student teaching???
