Seriously guys just apply anyway to these UR jobs. I applied to a hundred with only 2 years of bedside experience and I got it. I received so many rejection emails but I kept applying. I only received an interview invite with two insurance companies but eventually rejected by both. One of the companies later contacted me and gave me an offer on the spot once another position opened up. So overall it took me 5 months to get a UR position. So keep trying!!

I got my first job in UR over 10 years and have stayed in Case Management ever since. To get my first job I took a weekend prn UR job at the lowest paying hospital in my city. I ended up working about 3 days a week in a few month. It took about 6 months to feel competent. After 1 year of Part Time work I was able to manage to get a travel gig.again it was low paying compared to others , but I considered that kinda of like "paying my dues" and proving myself as a UR nurse and as a traveler. I now take nice paying gigs to places like Cali. I have taken MANY remote UR jobs. My last UR remote gig payed $55 an hour... which I consider excellent for working sitting up i bed in my jammies.

I knew for several years I wanted to work from home, & I prayed for something, I didn’t know what it would be. When I was ready to leave the bedside I knew I wanted to do CM. I worked hospice CM for a year (loved it but it wasn’t WFH), & by God’s grace I landed a job that has cross work as CM, some insurance & UM or UR. I wasn’t even looking for the job when my former nurse mentor recommended this job. I been working remotely for a year now & I love it. Some flexibility with work & home life. Yes, my former superior said remote/WFH nurses are called Pajama Nurses. 😂 I love it & thank my Lord for this blessing. I have so much more to learn & like that you’re still using critical thinking brain skills.😊 We’re still RNs taking care of patients or members.🤩

Great video!! As a nurse with 6.5 years of experience, with most of it being in inpatient psych and 2 years at a nursing home with zero background in case management or utilization review, I struggled to find a job in this field, but yet it was always a dream job of mine and I never gave up. I tried so many insurance companies and even local hospitals. After starting my search way back in July and unfortunately dozens of rejected applications later with only two interviews at all, I just recently finally nailed a remote job in prior authorization from home with Centene, which is another good insurance company with remote work that you forgot to mention btw :) at least with my experience, they really wanted someone with background in managed care and why I believe it took me so long to even get an interview. It was a challenging experience but definitely possible with hard work and perseverance. I start in a month and I seriously can't wait 😊 your videos have inspired me for sure to look beyond the bedside and never settle with being unhappy with your job.
@LifeAsWendyRN

I am very glad to hear you didn’t settle and kept looking for a job that would make you happy. Centene is definitely in my list for the next video I make. There are so many companies out here that I didn’t even know existed until recently. Thanks for sharing your success story and hope others see your story as well and get inspired. Good luck!

I have been applying for UR nurse jobs, and it has been difficult. When applying for the bedside positions, the entire process would take about 1-3 months. It’s a little discouraging because I keep receiving emails stating I am no longer under consideration. I have five years of nursing experience, including two years of hospice case management. I have tailored my resume three times to fit the roles of UR, case manager, and nurse navigator. This video was helpful, and I will not give up. I will keep applying until something great comes along. Thank you, Wendy.

As time goes by, and insurance becomes more involved, the nurse to patient ratio at the bedside continues to shrink in order to be able to pay all of these other ancillary people that insurance wants and requires to be involved. Not to mention all of the IT people. Leaves little money left over to pay for bedside nurses. Sad. As such I am looking for a job away from the bedside. It’s for suckers.

I know this post is old but as a hospital UR RN im curious what they are guilty about. I dont think the person writing this understands the job. We work by communicating about patients needs. Even when we “go to the dark side” lol & have a job for an insurance company the job is about quality and criteria. We are obtaining the clinical information on the patient to assure quality care within regulated criteria. Making sure the patient is at the appropriate level of care. & preventing abuse of financial resources. There is zero shame or guilt in the career.

To apply anyway and believe that my experience and skills are enough to be a great candidate and get the job! Also to network! I’m an introvert so this is something I have to be intentional about and it actually is working for my benefit as we speak! A few days ago, I ran into an old co-worker of mine and while we were catching up, she told me she’s working in UR and I was like no way, I’m looking into that too! So she said our former ANM from our unit is working in UR as well and just posted on her FB about open positions! So I reached out to her and now we’re getting the ball rolling in terms of applying. So I’m super grateful to have made those connections! Thank you so much for the video! I’ve been wanting to learn more about this topic, so this was great timing!
