Thank you for this video! I have a second and last chance to go back to school after working in the culinary industry for the past 10 years with a degree. I already applied to my local university for a biology major but my ultimate goal has been wildlife rehab as that is an absolute DREAM and i feel like it is my purpose in life. Applying for a biology/zoology degree seems like a dead end to what I want to do now that I've watched this video. I have 0 interest in data or big picture, and only wish to have 1 on 1 physical care with wildlife animals. NOT domesticated pets or to be a veternarian. So this seems like the answer to my almost year long battle with not knowing if i should go to school for biology or not to become one!

You did help me realize it's a bit simpler than I had it laid out in my head. I'm already volunteering at a sanctuary owned and operated by a licensed rehabber who is allowed to take on apprentices and they offer the 6 hours of required in person "lecture" with materials included for 65$. Which is an incredible steal if I do say so myself. My entire future for only about 65$? Count me in! In RI, we only need 25 hours of hands-on experience before you're eligible to move sub-permitee to level 1.

I wish I did it, or forest conservation. My babygirl wants to be "an animal taker carer" since she was 4 (now 7) so here I am looking into her future goal ❤

Im 24 and im going to move to bellingham washington to approach my interest in biology through animal rehabilitation. Its a very VERY gradual step but i know it wont be all that quick to get from rehabilitating to biology. But i just want to be surrounded by natural life in general and working ands on with it be ause ive developed a desire to help it because ive recognised humans ARE apart of it and effect it directly. I know it doesnt seem like a biology eccentric job, but with the atate im in and the near NEAR future of getting evicted from my home because resturaunt industries and retail industries arent self sustainable sources of incom. One quiver in the economy fucks you over and this is my thought to 1. Doing somthing better with my life 2. A huge risk but one i find nessasary to escape the impending doom of being in a cycle of homlessness and rent. Because i dont have good education to get me a real job, or money to kick off a studying for a degree, let alone money to live with basic needs, i hope a rehibilitator will take in a guy who lives in his van and works another full time job to try and adopt a new lifestyle and proffession. Id love to give my self to nature, after a year of self reflecting on my homless struggle and nearly escaping a rapidly declining mental health into a mental instatution. Because linliness on the streets (away from the scart homless people) will deprive anyman of what he thinks he knew of the world and the safty and lack of csre for this world humanity provides. In that year of reflection, ive recognised how disgusted i am with the way weve trested our home earth, were given one of these in our solar system.... and we trash it, i want to not be the human that trashes it, but rather one that is the example to everyone why we DONT trash it. But first i need to survive my way to bellingham washington and hope it works out. I have just been needing to get this out SOMEWHERE. I guess here is where it happened. Sorry lol. What a random place on the internet...

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, I want to wish you the very best of luck on your new journey to Bellingham and working in wildlife rehabilitation. We need more people who want to help nature and wildlife, so I want to thank you for that. While wildlife rehabilitation jobs are not the most high-paying, they are very rewarding in that you know you are truly doing something good for the wildlife in your community. Please always feel free to reach out to us here on your journey into wildlife rehabilitation, I know it can be very challenging sometimes, but we are here to help!

Is it just volunteer work or is it also a viable career path

From what ive researched, you can be paid for it, but pay is pretty poor. At the top end, you may be making like 20-22 bucks an hour. And thats after years of working in this field. I recommend having a main job or business that can provide you the funds for your own wildlife rehabilitation center or continue volunteering at one while keeping your job/business.

@@secondhandembarrassment7836considering that vets and rehabilitators work hand in hand, could you rehab on the ‘side’ while your main job be a veterinarian?

@@pillatrix-3713 Absolutely you can be a vet and volunteer at these wildlife centers. A lot of vets actually do that too.
