Few more examples of misguidance/false information: 1. There's a very popular video on YT where a pilot explains how he cleared his DGCA papers in 30 days! Absolutely brilliant video from a marketing POV because it was a bold claim, there's some controversy, there's optimism and boom, the video has gone bonkers. BUT, that person has PROBABLY managed to clear his papers in that period because he gave his papers after finishing his flying from the US, which implies he already has a fair share of aviation knowledge. Secondly, he had to study only 3 subjects - Nav, Met, Regs for conversion. For an ab-initio guy having zero knowledge of aviation, its not easy to clear all your papers including tech gen, tech specific, RTR done in a months time. I'm yet to meet a trainee pilot who has achieved to clear ALL his subjects in that time frame. 2. Flying in the US takes 6 months - This is one the USPs sold by the FTOs, the agents that flying in the US is quick and it takes just 6 months. I have also talked to schools claiming that it can be done in 4 months time! From what I've seen and the students I talked to, majority people finish it in a year's time. Maybe I am wrong and it is possible to do in 6 months, but probably those are anectodal cases. When a time frame is mentioned it has to be quoted considering a trainee pilot of average potential. 3. Cost of training is x USD/INR - Most US FTOs while giving the quotation for PPL underquote the price by considering the min. hours required for PPL, which is 40. But most people get their PPL at 50 or 60 hours or even more. That is something one has to take into account before deciding to take admission. Similarly, for FTOs in general, there are miscellaneous costs which come up, for example - charges for flight-logger software, ELP test training fee etc etc. It's better to keep 5-10 Lakh more than whatever the quotation is. I have spoken to lot many people in the aviation and flight training ecosystem in the last 1.5 years. One thing which lacks in this industry is trust. A trainee pilot is always alone in his journey till he/she reaches the cockpit. Whatever advice, suggestion is being given has to be taken with grains of salt. This is applicable everywhere, but more so here. One never knows the selfish interests of the "mentor" as he recommends a certain ground school, FTO or a TRTO. Another thing is the vagueness while selling the dream. "Go for pilot training now, there's lot of jobs, x airline has ordered 500 aircraft" But when you cross-question - how many jobs per year compared to CPLs issued, what is the delivery timeline of the jets, isn't there possibility of delays in the deliveries because of supply-chain issues, you don't get satisfactory response. I am no expert of aviation by any means. But I have seen people losing time and money by falling prey to false information, hence I have put forth my thoughts for the benefit of the aspiring pilots.
