I’ll be 40 this year and in the process of making this important decision on how I’m going to pursue this career. I can tell you this for sure - I graduated from undergrad in 2004, then went back for my masters and graduated in 2018 ( almost 15 years later) and went into the healthcare field making substantially more $$$ because of it. Now 3 years later planning on going back to further my education to become a doctor ( as a non traditional med student). My point is that YOU are in a unique position and a PERFECT AGE to do this now without a whole lot of responsibilities. More importantly, if you wish to continue to self improve, learning never ends. I hope you decide to become a doctor, I think you will look back and be grateful that you did. Best of wishes to you in your future! We need more black queens in this area!!

I’ve been wanting to become an Anesthesiologist since 6th grade in middle school. I’m 21 and I’m going to study Business Administration. I tried nursing and worked as a CNA at a hospital. I hated it with a passion. I still have the idea of becoming an anesthesiologist up in the air. I want to rule it out or go through with it. I’m doing my research because my passion is business, but I hate to just let anesthesiology go. 😞 I want to make sure that this career field is for me or not.
@ShonnaMissymehd4 жыл бұрын
I understand completely! Choosing any career can definitely be difficult, but before deciding on becoming an anesthesiologist, I think you have to decide and commit to just becoming a doctor in general! Getting into medical school and surviving is the hardest part, so first decide if you want to go through that! Also, my passion is mentoring and motivational speaking, but now I have a area of focus (medicine) to mentor and motivate about! There are so many physicians who go on to work in corporate positions (CEO/CMO of hospitals) or start their own surgery center and make a killin! lol. Medical schools also offer dual degrees (MD/MBA). So both could be done! Soul search and continue your research, then decide!

You can actually join the air force when you start medical school and have them pay for your medical education.

Yes. What Doctor Bobby said is what I also suggest! It not as easy as it may sound to join, but it’s definitely an option and has its benefits! Awesome!!! Ayyee Texas! I'm from Houston! I actually don't recommend one over the other. I'm still debating on whether I'm going to do one or not! lol For anesthesia, i think half sub-specializes and half practice general so it's literally a toss up! I would recommend it, if you love a certain sub-specialty and/or if you want to work in an academic setting or specific group practice then it will most likely make you a more marketable and preferred applicant.

@ShonnaMissymehd4 жыл бұрын
The type of degree does not matter. Medical schools accept any major. You will need to take the prerequisite courses required by whichever medical schools you want to apply to, in addition to the courses required for your major. Therefore, any of biology degrees will likely suffice to cover prerequisites including what you listed! But know that students with bachelors degrees in education, accounting, history, Math, engineering, etc also get into medical school!

How old am i When i Enter Med School and Go to Residency? Because my Friend Told me that All Doctors are Olds Due to To Much Training🌸💗
@Htxari3 жыл бұрын
That’s true. If you go to college right after high school you will graduate around 21-22. So you would go into med school around that age too depending if you start Immediately after college. You would enter residency around 26, so you would most likely actually start the job at around 30. This is if you do everything right after another.

I’m 14 and people keep on telling me it’s gonna be to hard especially since I aim to go to Duke. I would love to go a state school, but I row and it’s not really a popular sport. But the amazing thing about it is that scholarships are really easily given to rowers especially females. Do you recommend going to an Ivy or just a local school ?
@ShonnaMissymehd4 жыл бұрын
It depends on your overall goals as well as opportunity! I advocate for attending the school that provides the most opportunity for the individual, and it's obviously different for everyone. If you want to attend a prestigious medical school, then a degree from an Ivy league it most likely recommended. If you plan to attend an "average" medical school, then I would go to whichever college offers you a scholarship and/or is the cheapest! In practice, no one cares where you attended undergrad. Hope that helps!
@divinenyang99054 жыл бұрын
Shonna Missyme thank you soo much 💙💙
@flippcrazy4 жыл бұрын
I know this was a question for Shonna, but that's pretty cool that you row. Also, you should ignore what people tell you and go after your dreams--always! Although you are 14, it is good to keep it in mind as you progress though high school and start applying to colleges. If you work hard and earn the opportunity to go to Duke and with a rowing scholarship, then you deserve it! I went to a top school for undergraduate and I agree that once you graduate, no one really cares where you are an alum; they care about how competent and teachable you are. I have also learned the most important things in choosing a school/program are that you are supported as a student 💁🏾, that you get the education and training you need to succeed, and that the COST is not overwhelming. Ivy league is not always the best option for everyone; and you don't want to accumulate a lot of debt in undergrad and must to go back to school to be in a career that makes enough to pay it back (graduate school is harder to get financial aid/scholarships, and not all undergrad majors are created equal when it comes to working after graduation). Just wanted to share some tips that i hope will help you in the future.
