its a real shame that i cannot become an electrician in Ireland without going through an apprenticeship course, which will not pay me enough to cover even my rent. its completely designed to suit ONLY young , teenagers , who live at home and do not require to support themselves financially. its a country crying out for electricians, even a domestic installer programme would be a great thing. but, it does not seem to have even entered their heads.

True, have you had any plans since? I was hoping myself that there'd be a way to speed it up so that one would have the option doing it in 3 years. There's a big difference between 3 and 4 years.

There is not enough electricians in Ireland. Maybe only one for 1 million of population and he will serve only in big cities. The same story with plumbers. Think one hundred times before coming to live in Ireland if you can't do ALL the jobs in the house yourself. And don't be ever sick - you will be waiting for your GP appointment at least for 2 weeks!
