I'll add on to the point of being of service. There's something you need to understand about it's opposite pole of 'TAKING SERVICE' mindset that most people are stuck in. This is the #1 reason you're ruining your relationships. Because you come at it from a taking mindset instead of one giving service. You take more than you give. For the longest time periods I looked at relationships as how could this person be of benefit for me? once I made the switch of "how could I provide service to this person without taking anything back in return" was the turning point in my personal relationships. Lastly, I'll end this comment with a quote on bible that can be applied to this point. "Luke 6:38 NLT Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full-pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

I definitely second looking up words you don't understand, even if that's due to the specific context. And really drill the definition(s) into your mind before departing again. Not a fan of the old 'read books' response. A lot of peeps read books and loove to romanticise it and because of this will never be able to realise when they get to the point where they think they are being productive by reading a book and then starts to become a vicious cycle, an addiction process, just another hideaway from your true self.

This is one of the most important video's I have ever seen and it's not so much about being charismatic, it's about being honest and truly interested. I have worked in child protection services for 10 years and the most people I got to meet and help were people that didn't fit the system, 'professionals' didn't know what to do. In alot of cases I managed to turn the tide and get fitting help just by going there, sitting there and not judging them. I have alot of life experience myself, including addiction, addicted parents and abuse, so i can relate to some of them. It was the most fullfilling job I ever had. This is the way to really connect with people. Be yourself, be honest and be interested.

I'm also glad that he touched on the potential cost of charisma, in that if you have it, you need to keep a handle on it, or it can over feed the ego it can become a huge deficit to your own growth and then negatively affect the people drawn to it in you. Just like money... It a powerful tool but also a pretty enticing trap. 😬

I just want to take a moment to say how GRATEFUL I am to be hearing about charisma, something I entirely lack, from someone I would consider a master at it. I will struggle to adapt your words (I'm usually the person who makes a room silent and closes off communication upon entry) and escape the trappings of my own head the next time I remember you spoke them when in a situation during which they can be applied.

Russell You have a very beautiful, poetic way of articulation and presentation that I've always truly enjoyed, having been a fan of your comic / acting career(s) since my introduction to your work years ago, and after watching you're KZbin channel, I find myself even more impressed and captivated by you as a person, I'm sure I am one of millions and you hear this at least once a day, but I'd absolutely love to get the chance in life to have a full conversation, just watching your videos Alone is so stimulating that a conversation would likely be a mind blowing experience, a real Jeffrey so to say. Thanks for this Russell, made me laugh and cry within the space of a few minutes. I love this perspective, it's not a contrived formula so often found in self help videos. I also love how you honestly address your personal struggles with anxiety and confidence, as we all do to varying degrees at various times. Thank you for sharing 🙏 We could all do with giving ourselves permission to feel those, sometimes, uncomfortable and paralysing feelings that get in the way of us being our best selves. We are most charismatic (and powerful no doubt) when our social mask/persona/ego can loosen its grip and melt away in favour of our essence, authenticity and uniqueness to shine through, and in doing so we can recognise the essence and uniqueness of another. The key is to be present and self aware.

Absolutely wonderful. I believe that with enough practice everyone can be able to be like Russell and share the joy and bliss of presence. What I've realized lately is that for me being an overthinker I have to love to forget things and love to not remember what I have to do. That's the best way to be present. Of course you have to know when it's appropriate to do this but with just step by step I think it's possible to find the balance.

One thing I've noticed we're less interested in developing our own charisma than we are finding other people with it. The reason for this is it's hard to feel the benefit of your own: you can think, "wow I really engaged with that person and asked insightful questions which helped them know I'd really heard them and also helped them see a new perspective." but you still leave feeling like you did not have an authentic encounter because you were the one trying to be all those things. So you've given your charisma but not received any in the transaction. So we seek out charismatic people to be near because it feels uplifting and nourishing to us, but being charismatic is less immediately rewarding.

ESSENTAIL TiME Stamps: 00:06 Charisma is the ability to influence without using logic. 01:18 Charisma is about being present and having a real presence. 02:18 Charisma is about becoming your authentic self 03:20 Active listening helps overcome social anxiety. 04:20 Conventional systems restrict us in busy cities 05:07 Practice active listening and staying present while communicating with others. 06:11 Deal with your own neurosis psychosis and fears to be present and charismatic. 07:23 There are more subtle forms of energy than air and water that are interrupted and disrupted when a person comes into a room.

Love the 7:20 onwards - notion of charisma through to imagine an arc of light from your heart to the other person, yourself absolutely connected to that person, deep truth that we are all one, that we are awareness looking at awareness, that all material things through entropy of the universe - but that this great awareness, subtle energy, and this awareness will remain, this bridge between us, as a way to approach being more charismatic or present.

I, like Russell, am always trying to soak up knowledge and understand the world around me for many reasons, one of which is personal growth. what he said about listening is so relatable. I'm aware I sometimes skip organic flow of a conversation and talk over people. I'm checking myself on it more and more as time goes on, but what I find so freaking hard is that because I am actually listening, as I'm digesting it all I have questions...usually a lot. sometimes they're pertinent, sometimes they have nothing to do with the conversation directly, but it's always a genuine curiosity not meant to cut someone off. I can't help it. and I know of I don't ask those questions right away I'll just forget them. but i'm trying, I'm aware of this flaw, and I am really trying to give up the floor when someone has it and -listen-.
@manuel8617
@manuel8617 Жыл бұрын
If you're interrupting to clarify what they're saying or because you're genuinely curious about something they mentioned then there's nothing wrong with that , it actually signals people that you are extremely present and intrigued about what they have to say.
@SteveGriendling
@SteveGriendling Жыл бұрын
@@manuel8617 i must admit that it's not always that. like for example if someone mentions a film and starts talking about it, my mind will start compiling a backload of questions, relatable points, add-ons, etc. and in the middle of them talking they'll mention the director's name and i'll try to make an association, but the backload of info leaves me drawing a blank. so i'll have to get to the bottom of it before i can continue to listen, even though it really isn't all that important to what they're saying. i'm confident saying i listen intently and with genuine curiosity, but i can tell when i interject that often times it's not very welcomed by the person speaking. that's what leads me to believe i'm speaking out of turn too much.
@WHITELIONNYC

People (offline in the real world) regularly describe me as charismatic. I just used to read a lot of books. I used to spend hours after school in the library and on weekends as well. So when I speak I am confident that I both know and understand the subject matter; and because I have studied so many different subjects, ideologies, etc. I am also confident in wherever the conversation may go and when I'm delighted by something new or something I am unfamiliar with I listen and ask many questions. Also, there is a bunch of back burner stuff that goes on: body language, observing reactions, listening to changes in the voice of the other person, and feeling their energy. The way I see it is basically be true to yourself, truly listen and be open to what the other person/persons may say and receive it. I believe for a person to be charismatic is not a one way street. It's our souls meeting at a very specific frequency which allows the charisma to flow and continue the connection.

Love this. I think I have no problems to be present with another person face to face. I can be charismatic in single encounters. But I have a real difficult time in group settings. There are so many different energies I have to deal with at the same time that my brain is overloaded and I feel super uncomfortable sometimes even at the edge of a panic attack and I can't think of something appropriate for everyone to say. What to do about this?

Here's my take and it might not suit everyone, but I think about it like bringing in my own energy instead. Rather than trying to cater to individual dynamics and the crossovers you get with sub-groups within groups, just be yourself and say what you would say if it was one person. Respond to the energy that multiple people create as a single energy rather than multiple. Kind of just ran with that thought hope it makes sense haha.
