The more languages one learns, the easier it becomes. - The first foreign language is the most challenging because of unfamiliarity. 3. **Qualities of Successful Language Learners:** - Motivation and a positive attitude are crucial. - It's essential not to be a perfectionist and to accept uncertainties. 4. **Role of Confidence:** - Confidence is vital in language learning. - Steve stresses the importance of listening and reading to build confidence in the language. 5. **Mistakes in Language Learning:** - Making mistakes is a natural part of the learning process. - Polyglots accept uncertainties and are not overly concerned about perfection. 6. **Forgetting Words:** - Forgetting is a normal part of the learning process. - The act of forgetting and relearning solidifies knowledge. 7. **Improving Fluency:** - Steve recommends investing time in both input (listening and reading) and output (speaking) activities. - He emphasizes the importance of a positive attitude and consistent engagement with the language. 8. **About Steve's Resources:** - Steve has a KZbin channel called "Lingo Steve" where he shares language learning tips and speaks in various languages. - He co-developed an app called "Link" (LingQ) that helps users learn languages using internet resources. **Conclusion:** - The video concludes with a call to action for viewers to comment on their favorite part of the interview and to thank Steve for his insights. Overall, the video provides valuable insights into the language learning process, emphasizing the importance of a positive attitude, consistent engagement, and accepting mistakes as a natural part of the journey.

Steve Kauffman’s ability of becoming a wonderful polyglot is something that not everyone’s cup of tea but it also means that other people also acquires that skill if one can have that desire of learning without feeling of failure and guilt. Just keeping important things in mind are Acceptance of mistakes,true enthusiasm, confidence and strong desire and enjoying the entire process of learning in an elaborate way. I respect Steve Kauffman and his patience and dedication.

Hello, Jennifer.😊 Thanks a lot for the amazing interview with Steve. I found many of his words both impressive and informative. For example, "Enjoy the process.", "Don't try to be perfect.", "Trust the brain.", "Polyglots accept uncertainty.", "Forgetting is part of the process.", "Put in the time." and MORE. We tend to pursue good progress, but it might ensue as we simply keep going. Thanks Steve❗😊

I totally agree! I hope you've found a way to make learning fun!
@FrozenMermaid666 Жыл бұрын
That’s very true, because it’s naturally easy to learn languages that are enjoyable, so it’s very important to only choose pretty languages with mostly pretty words, as pretty words naturally bring a lot of joy to the eye / ear and a naturally motivating! I highly recommend learning English 2gether with Dutch / Icelandic + Norse / Norwegian as they are the prettiest and most refined and most poetic languages ever, and all other Germanic languages are also gorgeous, so they are all a great option, and also Welsh / Breton etc and the other 4 modern Celtic languages, and there are a lot more, honestly, but I am learning them all, and learning 15+ languages at the moment! I am writer level in English and upper advanced level in Dutch and intermediate level Icelandic / Norse / Welsh and advanced level in Norwegian, and the learning process is always a lot of fun!
@FrozenMermaid666 Жыл бұрын
By the way, my current levels are... - intermediate level in Old Norse / Icelandic / Welsh - writer level in English + native speaker level in Spanish - upper advanced level in Dutch + advanced level in Norwegian - mid intermediate level in German / Swedish / Portuguese / French / Italian - beginner level in Breton / Hungarian / Gothic / Latin / Faroese / Galician / Danish / Slovene - total beginner in Cornish / Manx / Irish / Scottish Gaelic / Aranese / Elfdalian / Gallo / Limburgish / Occitan / Luxembourgish / Catalan / East Norse / Ripuarian / Swiss German / Alemanic / Austrian German / PlatDeitsch / Greenlandic Norse / Friulian / Pretarolo / Sardinian / Neapolitan / Sicilian / Venetian / Esperanto / Walloon / Ladin / Guernsey / Norn / Burgundian / West Frisian / North Frisian / East Frisian / Finnish / Latvian / Estonian etc (and the other languages based on Dutch / German / Norwegian / Italian / French that are referred to as ‘dialects’ but are usually a different language with different spelling etc)

Excellent interview. I totally agree with Steve. I learned Portuguese from listening to Brazilian shows and podcasts everyday for about 2 hours, no grammar. About two years later, I visited Brazil and I thought I got enough language to "survive". I was very surprised when I started speaking with locals and they understood me! I felt so happy!! All that passive learning got transformed into active communication. Language learners, keep "consuming" the language of your interest. Eventually it will come out more naturally.

Hi Jennifer! Thanks a lot, Steve, for the awesome tips for learning English, and thanks to Jennifer for the excellent questions! Steve gave us students with his “pep talk” a lot of encouragement not to be afraid of mistakes, to have a good motivation, and to put in time to learn more. As for me when it comes to learning English, I tick most of the boxes as I have good motivation, I am not afraid of making mistakes, and I study regularly. The foundation is solid! Speaking English is especially difficult, and I make mistakes mostly then, but like Steve said: that doesn't matter, just keep on trying!

You have to enjoy the process of your learning and honestly we have to be patient while we are learning the good things will come to you eventually. This completely happened to me when I was younger. I was not patient and I criticized myself that you are not able to learn English. But, as I was going through the process I saw getting result in my speaking especially in my writing. The whole interview! This is the second time I watch and listen to Steve Kauffmann! He is a really unique person! You have discussed many tips I am always thinking about! To my opinion, this is the best video for this year so far, hoping to have new ones in the future! Thanks from my ❤️ for both of you!
