You're not becoming a "Friends" -- you're "following". It's not the same thing. By default, you "follow" all Friends, but Follow doesn't make you Friends

Same here man. Did you ever figure it out? Some people respond to me while others don't. Idk if it has to do their privacy settings but if it does, then there shouldn't even be an "add friend" option on their profile. The whole friending feature is just so confusing anymore.
