HOW TO: Beginners Guide to Building Gundam/Gunpla

Many of you wanted to know how to simply build these kits right out of the box so I felt it was time to make a detailed, yet simple how to tutorial. Hopefully this helps out both experienced and beginner Gundam builders alike!

@@Curioventura Your father is an absolute legend. I recently got into this, my first kit is Deathscythe Hell EW custom, the winged one, and it's still in the process of making. But I never could've even imagined how fun and calming and peaceful this can be. Even If you build just 1 body part a day, like a calf, or a thigh, or a waist piece, it's time well spent. It helps my skills of focus and patience A LOT. It's not only about the final product, the Mobile Suit itself, but also about the journey, and treating each piece with love and care.

Back when I was a kid I never had the patience to build a kit like this. But now that I am older and more organized I might give it a shot with an 1/144 HG model first (The accessible model for beginners)after I watched Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt December Sky. I'm so glad I found this video. I just received this exact model for my first assembly of a Mobile Suit Gundam. I saw in another video that claimed the trays that you cut the pieces out of (Runners?) need to be washed to remove molding? Anyone know why this would be the case?

It's easier to clean all the pieces while still on the runners for some. I just use an ultrasonic cleaner with the pieces cut out.

I like the basic strategy behind Bandai's models over regular AMT, Revell types. You'd never be able to convince a veteran model builder that a snap kit would kick their butt until you hand em one of these. Especially the 144 MG and RG kits lol Which btw I did just the other day to a friend of mine who was curious about these things. He almost had an MI when he opened the RG Banshee Unicorn kit. LUcky me though I do all the painting so I get to break it back down and do a basic OEM+ painting upgrade to it.

I've been building model aircraft kits for years and can confirm that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Japanese snap fit kit I recently built! It wasn't a Bandai Gundam kit but a Moderoid Shinkalion kit but being a Japanese kit I'm not surprised because all of the best model kits I have built have been Japanese, e.g. Tamiya and Hasegawa. The thing that impressed me the most was how well the snap fit worked and how solid the model was once it was assembled. The only criticism is the kit used stickers instead of waterslide decals and some of them were hard to get off the backing paper and place perfectly in position, but they were nice and thin and once applied didn't look like stickers. I'm about to buy my first Gundam kit, a 1/144 RG Gundam Wing EW and and confident that it will be just as good to build!

Thanks for watching! Yes just get the Bandai one that I built in this video. Its the full mechanics 1/100 scale kit. You can get them for around 30-40 bucks depending on where you shop but Id try ebay or amazon

You could also buy them from Hobby link Japan. You only have to take into account that there's a possibility you have to pay shipping costs, vat etc. Depending on the price. In Europe they won't charge a lot of extra things due to a trade agreement with Japan

Needs MORE molting spiders!! Joking aside, great beginner's guide video. It's very straight forward and easy to follow. What did you use the marker for? Did you mark the instruction manual to note that you were done with each instruction box? Definitely looking forward to the nub removal, or in my case, hopefully a video on how to fix badly cut parts that have holes (craters that get created when overzealously cutting the pieces) in them.

These tips are awesome, thank you for making this! I wish I had of watched this before making my first ever Gundam. I didn't think they would be something I'm interested in because my main hobby is making fixtures for reptile enclosures but I spent the day with my cousin who happened to drop into a hobby store for paint. He insisted he buy me the SD Banshee Norn because I thought he looked awesome. I don't have instagram, but I have a question? Either in my excitement or ignorance, two pieces got a little bent or misshapen (one back wing and fore-arm armor) and I was wondering if there was an alternative to glue that I could use for a more snug fit? I like to swap out the wings to make a giant gun and glue would mean one would be facing the wrong way? Thanks again :)

Too funny; i make vivariums for reptiles and my tarantulas lol! Thanks for watching and im so happy this helped you! You can use a hair dryer to heat up the parts back into shape. As far as an alternative to glue, you could use something like Blue Tack (which is putty to hang posters and such. Use little as it could make parts not fit flush if you use too much

@@Curioventura Yep it's a HG Universal Century Rx-78-2. So far its going well. I have the head and torso done. It was definitely tougher in my head.
