When you're trying to sing in mixed voice, feel with your hands your throat. If you feel vibration on it, then congratulations, you're singing in mixed. Same as with your chest, you'll feel a vibration in it when talking or singing. In head voice, you'll feel no vibration in your throat, nor in your chest. That's why it's called chest voice, mixed voice, and head voice, because it's where they are working. :D

I have a very opera/musical theater type voice and belting is always sooo difficult for me, I always end up accidentally going into my operatic register and its so annoying haha. But thank you this video really helps a lot! Just need more practice
@MrAnders1976
@MrAnders1976 10 жыл бұрын
Operatic register ?? is there such a thing ?.. Do you keep your chords connected when you go up or do you release and go into falsetto (chords disconnected) but have established a strong falsetto with a lowered larynx and open jaw to give the falsetto more volume and deeper timbre that the light breathy falsetto.

Kelsey Thomas I have similar issue, I can access my belting voice but above A4 I struggle to hit them without straining :( so I stop, maybe my vocal folds are strained because I haven't used those muscles for years, but still, I do not know how to access those notes without damaging.

Kelsey Thomas Girl I feel. When I mix i always have a very operatic tone because I currently don't know how to make the appropriate space for the mix without having a very dark placement. It is struggle because although i sound great with art songs and other things in which i sing bel canto, but when i try to do contemporary belt stuff I can't do the forward placement thing without sounding way too nasally, cracking, or other crazy mess.

Mixed voice is really difficult for me. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong..it seems like I can either do head or chest voice, but never mixed voice.
@soysaucehairdye7869
@soysaucehairdye7869 10 жыл бұрын
Mixed voice is hard to describe without actually experiencing it yourself, but you will eventually find it if you keep trying. It took me a long time to really get a feel for my mixed voice and then one day it clicks. It is kind of like you go into a pure light head voice and add chest resonance when you first start developing it. I am a leggiero tenor so I use a light mix voice almost exclusively from A4-C6 and never bring pure chest above E4.

my pleasure. Sometimes it's hard to tell if you're doing exercises correctly if you are trying to teach yourself. Getting a great vocal coach is always a good start. But for yourself if you are straining or it hurts - then it is wrong. Mixed voice feels quite comfortable but still sounds strong

You're welcome! In order for the whole sentence to sound connected, singing the word 'boy' in head voice would not work. That is the note that you need to mix in particular, as the notes before that are lower and can simply be chested. But you need to have a degree of singing in the mask for all of it, other the note on 'boy' will not be mixed properly and result in strain ...

depends what you are singing. If you are singing pop, rock or contemporary musical theatre, mixed voice will give the note the edge it needs. If you are singing opera or classical or don't want such an edgy tone then a strong head voice will be more appropriate

hmm interesting question. I have never taught that concept myself. I do teach lifting the soft palate for higher notes which will naturally perhaps lift the uvula. But I personally don't think it's need for lower notes because then you will get a more airy, dull sound. Yes you can use mix tone in the lower register to a point. You will get to a point when it is just too low and you should just use your chest voice, but still resonate it in the mask

Some serious prerequisites are needed for this video. Things like: Vocal Registers Low-Hi: Modal, Falsetto, and Whistle Anatomically we sing from: Diaphragm, Larynx, Head Some Expressions: Vibrato, Tremolo, Trills, etc ... And that's just to name a few. Basically singers need to have mastered or at least control over their voice while crossing from modal to falsetto and back, all the while mixing in the appropriate expressions. This technique has become over-used now days, but still fun!

I know there are a lot of different schools of thought when it comes to singing..I'm a vocal coach myself and I've worked with all of the best so I know everyone has their opinion. But it might be interesting to you to hear that some would say you're blasting with that "belt". When you can hear the white hiss ...like a light rasp in the tone that's not full cord closure ...which if you have it... is the safer way to belt. Check into that school of thought for kicks. Great voice by the way.

Your questions are big questions that really can't be answered in a comment lol. You've got a good foundations with Opera technique, now it's about developing the rest of it. Well let me tell you that that is better than pulling your chest voice up and straining. If you keep practicing resonating brightly in the mask - as you lift your voice soft into our head voice, try gradually putting more brightness into it. I understand your frustration - you are not alone! You might consider coaching if you really want to solve this perplexing mystery once and for all =)

4:39 sounds much batter than 5:37 IMHO. It sounded to me quite strangled as if you were forcing too much, whereas when you used more mask resonance the sound was more open and effortless (and therefore more pleasant and beautiful in my opinion).
